Welcome
A great start to the 2013 season. The weather was great. Aloysius and Lambert Parks both looked terrific. Welcome also to the new form of distribution, there will be a send out each week from the website of the current newsletter to all team members (or parents). This will hopefully remove information problems on wet weeks when newsletters may not be distributed.
Referees’ course
Anyone interested in attending the Soccer Referees Course contact Cyril Clark on phone 0260263432 or 0487235426 and email branch_coach@awsra.com.au
It would be good for as many of our Club members as possible to do the course.
Why ?
- not only for those wanting to become Referees but also for Coaches – as an understanding of the Laws of the game will improve coaching ability
- for players over the age of 20 who want to combine playing and refereeing or those older players not wanting to play any more
- it is a great opportunity to improve communication skills, keep involved in the game and there is financial remuneration

A great start to the season for the Under 12 Boys and their new coaches Rob “Carrot ” Barrett and James “Eggy” Eggleston. The boys put the HEAT on early in the match with passing and team work which soon broke down the Boomers defence and the goals followed.

Under 13’s V Boomers FC Won 6 – 2
What a magnificent autumn day it was to begin the soccer season for 2013. The team has undergone many changes since their last game, with six players leaving during the off-season and three new ones, Ben, Jack and Charters, arriving. The game started with the ball being kicked all over the field before Jack ran forward and booted the first goal of the match. Willson followed up shortly afterwards before Boomers replied with one of their own. Oliver came off the field after copping a wayward kick to the chin (cut the tongue but spared the teeth) and then it was half-time. John’s message in the break was “never switch off” and the players responded. Alex slotted one in very quickly then Ben scored after a beautiful cross from Charters, but again Boomers clawed one back. Ben capped off a great first game with the team with two more goals in quick succession. Ray had a thundering time as sweeper with Charters and Felix flanking him while Zac and Luke proved they have lost nothing during the past six months. Oliver and Cody kept the ball going up forward while Scott took on the goal-keepers role with panache. Thanks to Under 12s players Scott, Felix and Willson. Well done to all the team and great to have John coaching again.
Under 14’s Girls V St Pats Lost 1 – 8
What a great day for the first round, our girls turned up in good numbers with only a couple missing due to preseason injuries not from soccer. We have a great bunch of girls this year with some newcomers who have never played the game before, however their collective enthusiasm is infectious.
We played St Pats, an experienced and well drilled team, they gave us a bit of a lesson in how to score goals, however the signs are there for a great year ahead, we have some excellent girls and in coming weeks will work out what positions fit everyone best and start to gel somewhat. Looking forward to the year ahead and girlpower

Third’s V Boomers FC Draw 2 – 2
Over 35’s V Albury City Blue Draw 1 – 1
What a game, the heat was on from Wednesday regarding the time of game and actually playing it. We turned up and they had enough to put a team on the paddock. There were quite a number of cobwebs to blow away and while the day was not that hot it seemed to wilt our players, but like true Hotspurites we survived and scored right on half time from a cross by Coatesy to Ben. However soon after the restart the opposition heat got to us and they scored. The rest of the game boiled along but again no result against a City team, lets hope we get a win next week.
Reserve Women V BYE
Reserves V Boomers FC Lost 1 – 2
The reserves did not play as well as they can but put in a great effort against a pretty good side. After being two goals down the team scored late through Chris Vidovic and then nearly grabbed a draw with a late flourish. Jeremy Norton, Jon Corkett and Will Clifton had strong games for the team.
Ladies V Boomers FC Lost 0 – 6
The ladies worked very hard against a very strong team. Kate Elliot, Jamie Ryan and Rebecca Briggs were outstanding. Emily played well in her first game and Bec Snow did a great job as well.
Seniors V Boomers FC Lost 0 – 1
A very high standard and close game against last year’s champions. The boys worked very hard and were beaten by a very late goal. James Eggleston, Luke Drummond and Nick Musarra were outstanding in a solid performance by the seniors.
