Under 12’s V Melrose FC Won 4 – 3
With the ground being so wet, maybe Melrose had overpaid their water bill!
Melrose got off to a good start while our boys were still getting into the game, which resulted in Scott giving away a penalty. The score was now 1-0. After this, the boys started to play as a team, Melrose scored again, leaving the score at 2-0. We started to fight back and 10 minutes before half time the score was 2-2 all! Unfortunately Melrose scored again just before half time to make it 3-2.
The second half started far better than the first half, equalising to a 3-3 all score quite quickly! As the game progressed both teams were evenly matched, Hotspurs had a break through which resulted in a goal! Score now being 4-3! Hotspurs fought strongly against their attack to keep their advantage, with Scott saving a shot on goal in the last minute of the game.
The goal scores were: Aidan, Baxter, Alec, and Wilson who all scored one goal each. Best on ground was given to a deserving Felix. A good game was played by all which the supporters enjoyed.
We would like to thank the under 11’s who played up, you all had an outstanding game and without you we wouldn’t have had this result.
Under 12’s Girls V Melrose FC Won 2 – 0 (Forfeit)
Result win from forfeit 2-0 A great first game from the girls who played Melrose in their first round. All the girls took to the field with great enthusiasm and played well. The girls did a great job playing on the big field and even scored a couple of goals. Everyone of the girls did a great job and thanks to the girls who helped out Melrose so we could have a game. Looking forward to a great season together, Keep up the good work girls!!
Under 13’s V Melrose FC Won 6 – 0
The team fired up pretty quickly – must have been the warm sunny weather! The first half was a see-sawing affair at the beginning but eventually the passes started to connect, the spaces opened up and the Spurs put a couple into the back of the net. The tall timber in defence did a good job at shutting things down and the even taller fearless bloke in goals stopped everything that got past them. Coach John issued the usual half time warning about not going to sleep or getting complacent. The work rate was maintained in the second half and the goals kept coming. Well done Spurs, a great display of teamwork. Let’s bring the same game to Albury City.

Under 17’s Girls V Melrose FC Won 1 – 0
New coach Sam was absolutely delighted with the effort of the seventeen girls who played the whole game with only ten players and still managed to win the game. Every player was outstanding but a special mention goes to Chelsea who scored the winning goal with only minutes to play. Great effort by everyone.
Third’s V Melrose FC Lost 1 – 2
The return of Joel McDonough in goal was the highlight of what was an unconvincing first half performance. We struggled to match the movement of Melrose and were lucky not to go in at halftime more than one down. The second half saw a brighter more workmanlike performance, but the dismissal of Mark Timmermans for handball on the goal line looked harsh. Fortunately the resulting penalty was missed and a 10-man Spurs started to get a foot hold. With Sam Thornman working hard up front chances were being made and Spurs drew level with a spectacular 30 metre freekick from Jayden Goldsworthy, who did indeed release the cracken!! The back three worked hard and with lots of running from the midfield a point looked likely. Unfortunately Melrose found a winner with Spurs tiring near the end. The positive was the second half which if replicated over a full game will bring better results.
Over 35’s V Albury City White Lost 0 – 1
A good result for us although the score suggests otherwise.
With a 10 a side start we forwent a man up front to concentrate on a defensive strategy against an unknown force. The first 10 minutes saw an even share of the ball until the opposition score a deflection off our keepers’ gloves.
The game was then played in the middle of the park until to whistle blew.
The start of the second half saw them with 11 on the park to our 10. Although not very gentlemanly, that apparently is the rules which they took full advantage of. We held our own and frustration began to creep into their game.
We survived the last half & were very happy to keep a clean sheet.
A number of positives to come out of this game against a strong side were our discipline and our passing game. We did not panic and looked for an opportunity to hold and lay the ball off.
Some fantastic work by our 1st & 2nd half keepers denied them several goals. A win can’t be too far off.
Reserve Women V Melrose FC Lost 0 – 5
A good start to the season from the ladies, the result definitely did not reflect their efforts. We welcomed Kellie and Georgia to the club who both played really well for their first game. Bec Snow had a fantastic game in defence and was well supported by Danielle and Beth, Great job girls!! Sky played well in goals and pulled off some fantastic saves, and did an awesome job all game. Miki and Gios played well in midfield and were supported by Mikaela, who ran hard all game and did a great job together. Deb played well up front when the ball was there.
Well Done girls, a great team effort, Keep training hard and the results will follow!!!
Reserves V Melrose FC Lost 2 – 3
A short staffed reserves worked very hard but just could not get a result. Goals to Milky and Mark Belgre were both due to good team play. Thanks to Carl Copsey for helping out and to Harry Heath, Tashi and Will Clifton who had strong games.
Ladies V Melrose FC Lost 0 – 3
Seniors V Melrose FC Lost 0 – 4
A poor day for the seniors who were against a side who played well and finished very well. The team is a few players down at present and losing Jon Cochrane is the first few minutes on Sunday did not help. This team will lift for the next game and turn things around.
