Gala Day
The opening Gala day for SSF was held at Willow Park in Wodonga with teams from both sides of the border in grades from U6 to U11. Hotspurs fielded multiple teams in most grades and with only a few kids unavailable on the day, we put in a good showing with well over 80 kids competing.
The kids all performed well and looked like they were having lots of fun.
I want to thank all the coaches and managers on the day for guiding the kids and keeping it fun and organised for them and their parents.
When the gala day was over and I had time to reflect I was exhausted but very proud of our club, the managers, parents and all the kids who participated. Well done Hotspurs SSF.

Under 11s GALA DAY
The Hotspur U11s were the masters of the Gala Day, winning 9-0, 13-0. 3-0 and 7-2.
Playing Diamonds White, Wodonga Heart, Albury City, and Diamonds Red.
Not that we were keeping score. (might even have missed a couple)
They were the masters of teamwork, of maintaining their structure, and carrying out our game plans.
They were the masters of working hard for each other, and the masters of defending and goal keeping They were the masters of good sportsmanship, fair play and honest effort.
They were the masters of first touches and control in traffic, and the masters of finding space.
They were the masters of goal keeping, defending and playing out.
They were the masters of creating chances and the masters of finishing.
And they were the masters of learning to play together as a team.
The team was Aidan, Tom, Baxter, Jasper, Kye, Josh, Harry, Scott, Wendell, Marcus, Naresh, Sarsha, Laura and Isabella.
We had extra players as we had players away for one or two games.
The highlights were far to many to mention with numerous hat tricks, goals assists, great saves and strong defensive efforts. Sarsha’s long distance strike and goal was masterful and Kye’s almost bicycle (just to high) another.
Big thanx to the girls who all played very well.
Under 11s V Diamonds Won 4 – 0
On Sunday a tired bunch of masters gathered for another game against Diamonds winning masterly 4.0.
Jarrod was back, Naresh was away, and Lachlan and Ian Howsam filled in when our regular U12s players joined their warm up.
Another fantastic team effort. Well done to all.
Also thank you to the parents who helped out at the Gala Day and at Sunday’s game.
Go Hotspurs – The Masters.
Under 12s V Diamonds Draw 1 – 1
With Hotspurs first on the ladder and Wodonga Diamonds sitting second, this was always going to be a tough match and whoever showed to be Masters of game were going to come out on top! The game began with some excellent passing from both sides and Hospurs displaying strong defence by Memphis, Willson, Myles and Felix. Scotty saved 3 goals in the first half with some fine goal keeping skills. Headers were in great abundance bouncing around like balls off a golf tee before a running goal by Tom C from a splendid ball from Alec! Spurs up 1-0 at half time.
Diamonds came out fighting hard in the second half& eventually succeeded by drawing Scotty out of goals. The forward line kept pushing forward with some great running by Connor, Wendell and Aiden. The tension mounted when the Diamonds goaly kicked over the line and a penalty was awarded to Spurs. Berkeley takes the penalty with a fantastic kick which unfortunately hits the cross-bar just before full time. All in all it was a great contest and some excellent displays of teamwork! Coaches award – Myles!
Under 12s Girls V Diamonds Lost 0 – 3
What a great game from the Under 12 girls, they are showing improvement each and every week and really starting to play together as a team. Their skills and knowledge are improving and they have been playing some exciting soccer. Our defence were strong against a much bigger team and cleared the ball every time. Well done Laura, Bella G, Ciara, Zara and Maggie. Our Mid field held together well and won plenty of the ball with Isabella, Sarsha, Lilly, Justine and Caitlin doing a fantastic job. Up front Halle created some fantastic chances and was unlucky not to score, she was supported well by Imogen and Evie. Finally our superstar goal keeper Alesha showed great courage and skill and continues to develop each week. Congratulations to Caitlin and Imogen for playing their first game in the Under 12s. Keep up the good work girls!!!
Under 13s V Diamonds Won 3 – 1
Under 14s Girls V Diamonds Lost 1 – 3
Under 16s V Diamonds 1 – 9
Under 17s Girls V Diamonds Lost 0 – 11
Third’s V Diamonds Lost 1 – 3
Over 35s V Wodonga Heart Won 4 – 0
It was ‘gladioli’s’ all round today, Dame Edna would have been proud of our efforts and Reg would have come out of the closet. Two goals in both halves led to our final score with Ben getting our first with his first touch and Kel going for goal of the year with our second one in the first stanza. We moved the ball around fairly effectively and looked for players though we can do work on our first touch in the coming weeks. The second half goals went to Jim B and John, both from lead up work by the team. No stitches this week (thank you Edna) and so a bouquet goes to the team for our first win. Hope we can put a team together for the next game at Wang.
Reserve Women V Diamonds Lost 0 – 5
A great team effort from the reserve Ladies, with only 10 players the girls took to the field and gave it everything they had. Jess Briggs proved to be a strong goal keeper for the team and pulled off some great saves. The defence were absolutely Awesome all game with Bec Briggs, Caitlyn, Ash and Beth playing well all game. The midfield passed the ball well and were unlucky not to score creating plenty of chances with Miki, Mikaela and Gios doing a great job especially in the second half. Deb did a great job upfront supporting the team(considering she was injured). Hopefully, with a full strength team the girls will have a win soon!! Finally, a huge thankyou to Caitlyn, Bec and Jess Briggs for supporting the reserve Ladies team. and playing. Keep up the great team work girls!!
Reserves V Diamonds Lost 2 – 10
There were plenty of goals in this match unfortunately our opponents scored the majority of them. Down by seven at halftime the Res were so much better in the second half. Well done to Joel McDonough who had a tough debut in goals but played very well.
Ladies V Diamonds Lost 0 – 2
Definitely one of our best games so far. The girls all worked tirelessly throughout the entire game and did well to keep the score at only 2 nil. We had a few opportunities up front but unfortunately couldn’t finish. It was great to see everyone working together as a unit, we’ll need to keep this team work up for the rest of the season. Katie, J and Brooke battled well and Kate had a brilliant effort in goals. Thank you to the Reserves who once again helped out, it doesn’t go unnoticed!
Seniors V Diamonds Lost 1 – 4
A really high quality game were the score line is a bit misleading. Our opposition got off to a flyer with two goals in the first fifteen minutes then
Spurs got one back with a penalty by Rob Tuksar. The next hour was a tight struggle with our boys getting some chances to equalise. Diamonds eventually scored a classy goal late in the game to collect the winning points. Rob Tuksar, Ryan Giles and Luke Drummond were great for Spurs with Will Clifton and James Eggleston also having good games.
