Under 9s White
What a great Saturday for the first round of SSF, not your Indian summer but a lovely Autumn day for Hotspurs White running out winners 14-3. Lachlan had a swag with 8, Brodie with 4 and a stint in goals and Tomoki who defended and battle in midfield slotted one in off the post. Ashleigh and Lucy kept us organised with a natural flair for being in the right position, halting the opponents’ attack and releasing us forward. Reese and Rupert were an unbreakable force when together at the back. Calvin kept goal first half and had a blast on field in the second and picked up our award for the day. Well done team, Go Spurs!
Under 11s V Wangaratta
Under 12s V Wangaratta (Postponed)
Under 12s Girls V Wangaratta BYE
Under 13s V Wangaratta Won 12 – 1
A crisp Autumn morning confronted the team as they arrived in sunny Wangaratta. Today’s line up included Scott (goals) and Myles from the U12’s as several regulars were away on representative duty.
The team started slowly and in the first 10 minutes it looked like it was going to be one of those frustrating days at the office when you completely dominate play, but nothing will shake the back of the net.
Soon that crisp Autumn morning transformed into an Indian Summer as the Hotspurs turned up the heat with Zac blazing a shot into the back of the net. No sooner had play restarted when a Ben cross found an Olly volley and a 2-0 advantage.
Cody and Luke were controlling the midfield and as half time approached, Zac doubled his tally and Luke thundered one from the edge of the box past the keeper. A 4-0 half time advantage could have spelt complacency in the second half, but instead the boys came out firing.
The team dominated possession and numerous attacking movements ensued. The back line of Myles, Jack, Charters and Ray handled the opposition attacks with style, playing the ball out of trouble when required, turning defence into attack. Gilbert has shown enormous improvement and beat several players in attack, and was even stronger in defence , while Alex provided some quality play down the right hand side.
The first goal of the second half came from Cody who then backed up to pass to Ben for his first of the day. Zac then provided Ben his second to make the score 7-0.
Ray curled one into the bottom corner from distance, only to be matched by Charters who bombed one in from even further out.
It was then hat-trick time with Ben heading in from the penalty spot to claim his 3rd, closely followed a beautiful strike from Zac to chalk up his 3rd.
A momentary lapse in concentration gifted Wangaratta a late consolation goal, but in true fighting spirit Spurs had the last word with Zac delivering a quality ball to Ben for him to blast past the keeper for his 4th and the even dozen for the team.
An amazing team performance with great calling and passing. Let’s keep the unbeaten run going!!!
Scorers : Ben(4), Zac(3), Olly, Luke, Cody, Ray & Charters

We started with 9 on this “Indian Summer” of a day, trying to avoid getting sunburnt. We made it to 10 around half time, obviously he heard we were being filmed for posterity. The game itself had good sections and quite a few bad ones for us. They were a bit fitter (or they had 4 subs) and we had to keep our shape to stop their attacks. They got to 3 through defensive lapses but we got one back through Wayne, they then got another and Wayne replied for us. However a ref with watch dyslexia gave Wang enough time to put one in on the bell. The second half was well played except for our finishing and while we tired we never gave up and we kept the heat on Wang. Let’s hope we have subs this week.
Reserve Women V Wangaratta Won 1 – 0
Reserves V Wangaratta Lost 1 – 4
The Reserves will be disappointed to lose a game which they are good enough to win. After failing the convert their chances in the first half where they were clearly the better they conceded goals early in the second half and had to chase the game. Michael Wright and Tashi were the best players for this side.
Ladies V Albury City FC
Seniors V Wangaratta Lost 0 – 5
A poor display by the seniors who were outplayed by a more committed side. Fortunately Drummo was in good form in goals or this could have been more embarrassing. The BYE has come at a good time for the team to allow them to regroup and get on with playing to a standard which everyone knows they are capable of. Best Wishes to senior player and twelves co-coach Rob Barrett who is heading overseas next week. We look forward to seeing him back at Spurs soon.
