SSF Hotspurs 40th anniversary match vs Melrose
We usually play on a quarter field with seven players but this game was on a three-quarter field with 10 players. It took us a little while to come to grips with the large field and forced us to play the ball more quickly by passing longer with less running with the ball.
Both teams moved the ball well and some good saves by both keepers kept it a scoreless draw which was a fair result. The large crowd showed their appreciation cheering the kids on.
The kids played with enthusiasm and fair play and did the club proud on this special occasion.
Team: Brodie Davies, Ava Tuksar, Reese Spokes, Lachlan Carty, Tomoki Heinjus, Rupert Baker, John Kean, Cody Wild, Daisy Tuksar, Mitchell Spokes.
Hotspurs representative news
Anna Parrett was part of the Winning AWFA Under 14 Girls team and Lewis as their assistant coach to Clayton Blissett from the Victorian Girls Country Championships on the weekend in Shepparton.
They went through the tournament undefeated winning the final 2 nil in extra time against Bendigo. Anna was the only Hotspurs representative in this team and she is also the only NSW State Rep from our club this year.
Other news from the weekend for the girls is Under 16’s went through undefeated and won their final against Bendigo 1 nil
Under 12 girls with three of our little chargers in their midst (Justine Underhill, Lilly Kennedy and Sarsha Smith) finished 3rd for the weekend, our little girls played very well and we should all be proud of them.
Boys Regional Challenge Cup at the same venue;
Under 15 boys (Sam Thorman) went through undefeated and won their final 4 nil
Under 14 Boys (Quinn McDonough) lost the final 2-5
Under 13 boys (Zac Fordham and Luke Dahl) failed to win a game in a very competitive group

U9 Hotspurs White vs Albury United
Some kids hadn’t played or trained for a few weeks with the bye and wet weather cancellations so it was good to have a full squad and a nice day for this game.
We started well with Brodie opening the scoring with some close control in a tight space avoiding three opponents and slotting the goal. Lachlan then destroyed them with 2 great goals in a stellar 5 minute patch. Reese was solid all game at the back and had help in the second half by Rupert after he came out of goals. Tomoki’s on ball skill and passing has been excellent for the team. Calvin halted a few of the opposition’s attacking runs and Lucy and Ashleigh held their positions well and gave us width and good outlets coming out from defence. Lachlan worked hard in the second half and did his best to set up some scoring opportunities for his teammates but we could not finish off his good work.

Under 12’s V Melrose FC Won 3 – 1
Another great win for Hotspurs U/12’s
Our defence was rock solid with all players working hard to keep Melrose from scoring. Midfield passed the ball around, put in some lovely crosses and offered support well. Our forwards were determined, running on every ball that was put through.
Thank you to Kye and Josh for playing up, and congratulations to Connor on his hat trick.

Awards Connor and Harry.
Under 12’s Girls V Melrose FC Draw 0 – 0
Under 13’s V Melrose FC Lost 0 – 2
The first half of the game saw even possession of the ball by both teams. Hotspurs provided a few great attempts at goal, but were thwarted by good defense from Melrose.
During the second half an early Melrose goal gave the opposition some momentum. Hotspurs hung in there, showing some great footwork and excellent passing. Again the play was distributed evenly between both ends of the field. More attempts at goal from Hotspurs were unlucky not to find the back of the net. Melrose scored a second time. Hotspurs regathered themselves and put in a top effort until the final whistle blew. Look out next time, Melrose!
Under 14’s Girls V Melrose FC Won 5 – 0
Under 16’s V Melrose FC Lost 2 – 3
Under 17’s Girls V Melrose FC Won 5 – 0
Third’s V Melrose FC Won 4 – 2
There was no deluge of goals against us this time, in fact at half time we had absorbed a lot of pressure and were 0-0. A great achievement and while we did finally let a couple in, the hard work of the midfield, the great coverage of the backs and Jim P’s valiant efforts in goal meant we showed we can match it with the best in the league. We even had a couple of chances which if taken would have made the result very interesting. Great to see our ground hold up after the flood / deluge during the week. We are duty team for this weekend so see you at the ground early.
