U9 Hotspurs White (5) vs Melrose FC (1) – but who’s counting?
With two away we again relied on the ever keen Cody from U8s to help out and he played very well. We got off to a blistering start, driving forward with wave after wave of attacking foray but for all our dominance we were unable to beat the Melrose goalkeeper. Ashleigh was awesome in the first half with speed and determination and she was very unlucky not to get her first goal. It wasn’t until midway through the first half that we broke the deadlock when Brodie got through and smashed the ball past their keeper with tremendous power. Brodie had an excellent game and went on to score 4 of our 5 goals to Melrose 1 goal which Reese was very upset that they got as he was our champion defender and stopped them on many attacking opportunities. Tomoki scored our other goal and had a very good game as well. Lucy had the first half in goal then Ashleigh the second. Both girls didn’t have much to do in goals due to our dominance of the match. Lucy was going very well until the dreaded “falcon”, when the Melrose keeper went to throw the ball out but it flew straight in to Lucy’s face. Speaking of which, Rupert was in their faces all game, putting pressure on the ball carrier, making tackles and had a few good headers as well. Great all-round team performance, well done kids.

The ice had left the field by the time the Under 13s began playing but the team gave the opposition a frosty reception anyway. It was a slightly lopsided game which saw the fully thawed-out ‘Spurs win comfortably 9-0. It was pleasing to see how the whole team persevered throughout the game, exhibiting some good passing and much sharing of the ball. They managed to freeze out their opponents much of the time while keeping their collective cool whenever St Pats went on the attack. Special mentions to Gilbert who had a terrific game in the backline, Luke (5 goals) who only stopped scoring when he went to the bench, and Anna who did a great job as second-half goalkeeper. A perfect way to celebrate John’s 50th win as a Hotspurs coach.
Under 14’s Girls V Melrose FC Won 5 – 0
What was beaming as a stunning day turned into a first half deluge of errors, it appears the weekend off stole our girls stunning form from the previous round as 95% of our young ladies were asleep and not into this game, captain Nicole was trying hard to enthuse them but to no avail and a good effort by Anna in goals for the first half had us leading 1 nil at half time. It didn’t help when Melrose only turned up with 9 players, this made our lot switch off when taking the field with 9 also to be fair to the opposition.
The coaches were imploring at half time for a more concentrated effort in the second half and for the first 10 minutes it appeared to have fallen on deaf ears, then all of a sudden our second deluge for the match only this time it was goals with four being scored in the last 15 minutes. Who turned the light on we do not know but we are happy it came in time to rack up another win. Great first goal of the season to Chelsea Condon with a stunning kick from outside the box, other goals to Chelsea D, Nicole C, Anna P and Shelby B. Great first time in goals for Bethany in the second half, kept a clean sheet, well done.
We have a bye this coming round and then play Myrtleford the following week, training will definitely be on this week, we obviously need a run
Under 14’s Girls V St Pats BYE
Under 16’s V St Pats Lost 2 – 4
Under 17’s Girls V St Pats Won 2 – 1
Third’s V St Pats Draw 3 – 3
Over 35’s V Albury City Blue Lost 1 – 2
It was not that frosty when we got to the ground but as the duty team we felt it at 7.30am. We played well in patches and covered up our mistakes pretty well though we did let them get a goal in each half. Our midfield did a ton of work and a cross / shot from an unnamed midfielder bounced over the keeper and in the resulting melee with Wayne and Ben the ball got to Ben who scored. We do well considering the amount of training put in and still continue to enjoy the game. If we keep our formation we will continue to be competitive.
Reserve Women V St Pats Won 1 – 0
Reserves V St Pats Lost 4 – 5
A spectacular game for the spectators but a game the Ressies should not have lost after leading 3-1. After dominating the first twenty minutes the team switched off too many times to allow the opposition to score five times. Milky had a great game in scoring a hat trick. Michael Wright and Ryan Weston were the best of the rest.
Ladies V St Pats Won 2 – 1
It was a top performance by the girls to get their first win of the year. The team put in a great second half to come from a goal down to get three points. Jess Briggs scored both goals but Micky, Sam, Emily and Jamie played great games. The defence led by Katie, Both Bec’s,Beth and Simone also played great.
Seniors V St Pats Won 5 – 1
This was a good display by the seniors particularly after conceding the first goal. Musarra, Giles, Harriss and both Eggys scored in a sound team effort. Clemo and Jack Percy were great at the back and Sam, Alex and Giggsy also had very good games.
