Under 11’s V Diamonds
Under 12’s V Diamonds Lost 1 – 3
Under 12’s Girls V Diamonds Lost 1 – 4
Under 13’s V Diamonds Won 2 – 1
Another good win for the Hotspurs Under 13s with contributors all over the field. The team crashed through early (kapow!) when Zac found himself alone in the goal square as the ball came in and calmly kicked it into the net. Anna hit the turf (bam!) when she swung and missed but made up for it later with great defensive work. Jack ran up and down the wing all day and made the opposition toil for every touch, Casper controlled the other wing with panache and Willson narrowly missed getting a goal with a shot (whizz!) that was just wide. Oliver created a host of opportunities and hit the crossbar (zing!) on one occasion while Ben kept charging forward and displayed some great teamwork. Alex had some tricky moves up forward, Charters took a blow to the body (whack!) but saved a Diamonds attack, Luke fought hard all day even when he was down on the ground (oof!) and Zac read the play beautifully and kept the ball moving forward. A fumble by the Diamonds goalkeeper led to the second goal when Alec followed up and tipped the ball in (pok!).
Alas, Diamonds scored a goal in the second half despite an athletic dive by goalkeeper Ray (whee-boof!). Cody thwarted many an opposition attack with his running play, Gilbert made the right defensive area his own, and Ray threw himself around and saved the day many times. Coach John raised his voice (Aaarghh!) towards the end of the game and the intensity suddenly lifted with three quick attacks on goal (ping! pong! pow!) Well done to
Hotspurs for a hard-fought 2-1 win (woo hoo!) Thanks to Alec and Willson for helping us out.
Under 14’s Girls V Myrtleford Won 3 – 2
A very composed first half , saw the girls leading 2-0 at half time. Midway through 2nd half Myrtleford pegged one back through with some good individual play. This sparked our girls into action and another good team goal saw us leading 3-1. Our usual late game fade out cost us a little bit in the second half with a Myrtleford player striking back at us with another goal, we held on for the rest of the game to make sure that the Myrtleford attackers could not get through our defence. In the end we had chalked up to another win.
Goals: Chelsea D (2), Shelby B (1)
Best on ground was Anna P
Under 14’s Girls V Diamonds Draw 1 – 1
Our girls started like F1 race cars that weren’t going to crash. There intensity from the get go was very impressive, missing our main striker and our main attacking midfielder, our girls stepped into new positions with absolute gusto. A stunning goal by Anna P, 25 metres out from the goals, had spurs leading 1-0 half way through the 1st half. Getting closer to the pit stop ( half time ) as the time went bye, a momentary lapse in defence saw our wheel fall of and we had a crash ( aka Mark Webber ) . This allowed the opposition to sneak an easy goal in on the bell of half time.
Diamonds started the 2nd half very busy, a stellar performance by our backs and midfield kept Diamonds at bay. We had numerous opportunities ourselves to change the score but alas we could not get through the strong AWFA goalkeeper, Molly May. Big thanks to Alesha M, Lily K and Erica S for backing up in the 12s to help us.
Best on ground this week was Bethany W for her great performance, hard to believe this is her first year of football
A special mention to 2 of our new beginners this year, Hannah P and Lateisha T for improving every single time they play, keep it up girls
Under 16’s V Diamonds Lost 2 – 11
Under 17’s Girls V Diamonds Lost 1 – 7
Third’s V Diamonds Lost 0 – 5
Tough day for the thirds, missing a number of players and playing the top side combined to send us to a crashing defeat. Things could have been much worse but for an excellent display in goal by Joel, saving brilliantly a number of times before pulling off two great penalty saves. Being 4-0 at the break, the boys showed great determination and pride to restrict Diamonds to just one in the second half. Thanks to Lewis for playing up from 16s, let’s get back on track next week.
Over 35’s V Diamonds Lost 2 – 3
Well we crashed in the first half but then turned things around in the second. We all seemed to be in holiday mode in the first half and allowed the opposition to move the ball around and be as quiet as church mice. Down three nil at the beak we reorganized and went out with a better plan, more use of the field and managed to get goals from Wayne and Carl. We now have a week off and as long as we don’t crash in our next match can continue to improve.
Reserve Women V Diamonds Lost 0 – 2
Reserves V Diamonds Lost 0 – 6
A very depleted reserves team tried very hard but were outgunned by a strong opponent. Thanks to all the players who backed up from the thirds and the over 35’s to help put a team on the field.
Ladies V Diamonds Lost 0 – 4
The senior women played a great game despite being down on numbers. Jamie and Emily were terrific in midfield and Kate and Rebecca played really well in defence. Simone was also outstanding in goals. Well done team !
Seniors V Diamonds Lost 0 – 4
The seniors were also short staffed due to holidays and injuries so it was a tough task against the competition leaders. All players worked very hard and their performance did not let the club down. Drummo was again great in goals and Jon Cochrane, Matt Clement and Will Clifton performed admirably as well.
