Grand Final this weekend – Sunday, September 15

Our Under 12s boys will be playing in the grand final this weekend, kicking off at 11.40am.

Admission to the Grand Final is $15 for adults.$5 Senior age pensioners on presentation of pension card.

Children under 18 free of charge. Programmes $3

Under 12’s Albury Hotspurs vs Wodonga Diamonds won 2-1

The Under 12’s came into this semi-final having not beaten Diamonds in their previous two meetings for the year, but showed they were the better team right from the start. The players owned possession beautifully and played patiently, executing a game plan the way they’ve been working towards all year, so well apparently that they caught the envious eyes of some senior players from other teams. Berkeley, Alec, Wendell and Aidan owned the midfield, while the defensive line of Wilson, Manny, Felix and Myles kept Diamonds out of the game. Diamonds had to fight hard to find the ball, but the boys held onto the ball and looked to maintain possession, and Scotty doesn’t remember getting a touch for the whole half! In the shadow of half time, a quick break found Tom C on the end of a through ball, who calmly slotted it past the keeper, giving Hotspurs the deserving lead going into the break. Tim, Harry, Memphis, and Baxter were injected into the side in the second half and were all instrumental in helping in the lead up to an Alec through ball, which found Connor unmarked in the box, who was able to slot it into the far corner for a 2-0 lead. With Diamonds left with nothing to lose, they launched an all out attack, but the defense line stood firm and stopped the opposition getting through. A lucky free-kick saw Diamonds finally find a break through, making the hearts of those watching climb until they were comfortably nestled in their mouths. But the spurs boys on the field stayed calm and stuck to their game plan, holding out the diamonds attack, helped with some quick thinking from Scotty in goals. The eternal final minutes saw chances for both sides, but the final whistle beat any changes to the score line! Congratulations to all the players, and a massive thanks to Kye, a well deserved win lads, you all played absolutely brilliantly, and high hopes and excitement going into next week’s grand final at Jelbart Park!
