What an exciting game from the 14 girls!! Nil all at half time after a solid half and holding possession. The girls passed the ball well and again created chances in the final third but just could not finish them. Halle scored great first goal to even up the scores and Sarsha scored an absolute cracker up and over the goal keeper in the last five minutes to win the game. Awards to: Tynecia- solid in defence, Aimee running hard on the wing and Justine. Millsy also had an awesome game in goals pulling off a great one on one save- Well Done Girls!!
Under 16s v Wangaratta Draw 1 – 1
Thirds v Wangaratta Won 2 – 1
Over 35s v Wangaratta Lost 0 – 3
This was no walk in the park or a walkabout with wine and people in funny clothing. We started with the bare eleven and matched them on the park even though they had two subs. The first half was played mostly in the midfield with a few forays both ways. However in the second half another two subs arrived for the opposition and we lost Kieron after five minutes due to injury so we started to have to chase more. They used the space well and we ran out of puff but never gave up. A good effort guys and they might be an interesting matchup in the finals.
Reserve Women Gold v Wangaratta Won 3 – 0
A solid game from the reserve ladies who played hard for each other. Carissa scored a great first goal. KT and absolute cracker high and long over the keepers head and Mia finished a great goal to score on her birthday. Our defence were as solid as ever and not much got passed them, Claire created space and was first to the ball while Gios ran and ran up and down the wing and was unlucky not to score although I think she did get an assist!!! It was Lisa last game for the reserve ladies team as she heads around Australia, we wish her all the best and hope to see her back at Spurs in the future!! Well Done girls a great team effort, Keep it up!! Also a huge thanks to Yasmin for running the line for us!
Reserve Women Black v Albury City Lost 0 – 7
Reserves v Wangaratta Lost 0 – 3
With sixteen of our 32 senior players unavailable the club had to throw together a team to represent Hotspurs. With a mixture of over 35’s, Thirds and a under 16 player the “team” did a great job. They all worked very hard and should be proud of the way they played. Angus Mackinnon, Will Heath and Caleb Parker from the thirds all played very well and Jim Brodie (over 35’s) and Ben Gardner (16) were also terrific. Thanks to everyone who helped out.
Ladies v Wangaratta Lost 1 – 2
It was a nice sunny day (for once) and the girls were so excited to get on the field and play. Once we started the first half we stopped all the through balls and knocked over a few people in the process. Throughout the first half the balls were going walk about, they just didn’t want to stay on the field. But every time the ball touched our feet we were off and away. Weavers was on a role and would not let the ball go walk about into the back of the net. Unfortunately the goals moved and they got a goal, but that didn’t stop our team from fighting. By half time we had come off and had our inspiring team talk.
Once we got back on the field we getting through them like a lawn mower cutting through grass. We were playing amazing and everyone was having a good time doing it. After a great ball got passed through to Jamie we scored a goal. Jamie used her amazing speed to get to the ball and trick the goal keeper and shoot. Throughout the whole game our defence was doing so well, they kept going even though we could see everyone was getting hot and bothered. Unfortunately they snuck through us with a fluke goal in the last 3 minutes. We pushed through to try and get another goal and we were so close.
Overall the girls did an amazing job and everyone should be very proud of their efforts today.
Seniors v Wangaratta Lost 2 – 5
The Seniors were a big improvement on the last time we played the club who are favourites for the championship. The defence of Mark Belgre, Paul Kinning and Indra were very good. Our opponents had some outstanding forwards. Joe Suggate was really good in his first senior game. Jon Cochrane continued his great year with another top game and James Eggy was also excellent in grabbing two goals. Look forward to another win from the seniors soon.
