Match reports
U11s v United won 3 – 1
United couldn’t handle Ava’s corner kick and could only manage to deflect the ball into their own goal. United equalised and we went to the break locked at one-all after an even first-half.
In the second-half we had most of the play and the better chances. Tomoki and Ava both scored and Ian made several great saves in goals.
An excellent team performance on a cold, drizzly day and a slippery, wet field. Great to see the results starting to go our way and the kids getting just rewards for their efforts.
Soden’s award goes to Ava.
Baker’s Delight award goes to Jonathon
Under 12s V United Won 4 – 1
Under 12s Girls V United Lost 1 – 2
A very different game to last week with a different 11 taking the park again!! The girls tried hard to pass the ball around on a wet pitch. Unfortunately we just couldn’t convert our chances. We were missing our key defenders but Ava did a fantastic job filling in. Scarlet was first to the ball every time and Mattea held out their strongest player in the second half. Awards to: Scarlet and Eliza
Under 13s V United Lost 0 – 5
Under 14s V United Lost 1 – 3
Under 14s Girls V United Won 2 – 1
Wow, Wow, Wow!! What an exciting game with many of the girls away this was going to be tough, but the girls never gave up and have such courage to play with no subs they battled the game and were 1 nil down at half time to came back and win 2 to 1 was just awesome against a strong United. A huge thank you to the Under 12 girls who backed up to play a double and for some was their third game of the day, we appreciate the efforts. Keep working girls!! Awards: Scarlet, Halle, Grace and Laura.
Under 16s V United Won 2 – 1
Sunday morning was cold and miserable, but that did not deter either United or Hotspurs. Both teams came to play hard. Near misses were the order of the day for both teams early on. Unfortunately the most unlucky early on was Ben with three genuine chances. Hotspurs first goal came from Zac’s left foot thanks to a well positioned header from Ben. Meanwhile Ray was working hard in goals to keep the score 1-0 at half time. The second half started at a frenetic pace, Felix, Luke and Zac were all involved early. Unfortunately United scored the equalizer somewhat against the flow of play. After many decent attempts by Hotspurs Luke assisted Olly to score the winning goal late in the second half for a final score line of 2-1 to Hotspurs. A well deserved victory
Thirds V United Lost 1 – 3
Over 35s V United Lost 0 – 7
We needed a witch to hex the opposition but one did not turn up unfortunately. Against the top team in the comp who train fairly hard we were going to struggle and while we did get a few shots in at goal we certainly practiced our defence. We kept our formation most of the time which helped but under a constant barrage a few got through. Hopefully we can get a team with subs for the next game.
Reserve Women Gold V United Draw 3 – 3
We started with 13 and very quickly dropped to 11, with our super sub Narelle injuring herself in the warm up!! We wish her a speedy recovery so she can actually play a game. We were very slow to start the game but then got a bit of momentum going our way with Alex and Jess combining nicely together upfront to both score a goal. Our defence were all solid being under constant pressure with Molly doing a great job after being away for six weeks. A great team effort!!
Reserve Women Black V Benalla Won 2 – 1
Reserves V United 0 – 7
The Ressies had another tough day against the league leaders. There are positives with players like Tim and Alex improving every week with experience. As we get more players back on the park our results will improve. Zac Brodie, Zac Francis played well and it was great to have Middi back. Joel got plenty of work and made some good saves.
Ladies V United Lost 1 – 5
Seniors V United Lost 0 – 1
The seniors worked really against the side second in the competition but just could not get a result. Eggy and Mark Belgre had good defensive games. Brendan was solid in goal while Indra was terrific on the outside. The improvement in Joe Suggates game is really encouraging. Ethan Rimmer had his best senior game of the year and was close to getting the goal we needed. Overall the seniors look close to a win.
