Match Reports
Under 12 girls: won 4-2
What a great fight back for the girls who played Wang last week, we got on the ball early with a fantastic free kick from Ava. Ruby then positioned herself nicely to go into the half 2 nil up. Ashleigh and Mattea ran the wings well and beat them every time. Our defence were super solid with Brooke leading the way. Lil had a good game in goals, a great team effort by all. Awards to Tahlia A, Lil G and Brooke. Lets keep up the great work girls!! Thanks Jonothon for running the line.
U12s v Wangaratta lost 2-3
Well it was good to get back on the park and play some football in the sunshine having not trained or played for a fortnight.
We started stongly and went 2 up. Reese battled hard to get through a few Wang defenders and smashed the ball off the underside of the cross bar for our first. We soon followed that with a lovey corner from Ava which was volley home in calm fashion by Tomoki showing great technique.
Wang got one back before half time and seemed to lift them for the second half in which they out played us to score two more goals and snatch victory away from us.
Under 14 girls won 14-1
A fantastic game from the girls who are passing the ball well and scoring some fantastic goals across the park. Our midfield moved the ball well, and our defenders were super strong. The girls moved positions well and scored the goals around. Sarsha finished with 6 for the game. It was great to have the ressie ladies come and support the girls. A fantastic team effort, keep up the great work girls!! Thanks again Peter for running the line.
U14s v Wangaratta lost 4-2
What a great day it was on Sunday and what a great game. From the inexperienced eye I felt the Spurs played really well. They were very strong; never letting up on their opponent. The game seemed very defensive and any chance at goal was taken. There where quite a few near misses making for anxious but exciting viewing for all the spectators. The coach was, as always, very encouraging and supportive of his team. In fact, may spectators where very vocal with their positive support; an indicator of an exciting game. The Spurs did not make it easy for Wang to score, but in the end it was 4-2 in Wang’s favour. Well done Wangaratta. I decided not to name individual players, there was plenty of team work on Sunday; they each bring their own character and strength to this game. Go Spurs!
U16s v Wangaratta won 4-0
The Under 16s team once again worked hard to overcome the opposition in another solid performance. Early in the match a precise corner kick found the head of Manny, and he powered it into the far bottom corner of the net to open proceedings. The rest of the half was free-flowing with clear-cut chances hard to come by, and Spurs went into the break with a 1-0 lead. One decisive pep talk later the action began again and soon Gez pounced on two golden opportunities to score a brace and put the game beyond Wangaratta’s reach. The final twenty minutes were open and entertaining and once again Denzel found the back of the net to finish the game off and secure another hard fought win. With the end of the season looming this was a good game to win. Well done ‘Spurs.
O35s v Wangaratta Won 2-1
Another early start for us playing on a dreadful field that was water-logged and had a putrid smell when the grass was torn up and became mud. The game was slow and the ball was heavy. We certainly had some chances and went to the break 0-0 feeling fortunate that Wang was having one of those days when their shots on goal went everywhere but in the back of the net. We know first-hand how that feels!
Early in the second half the opposition scored a clinical goal. About 5 minutes afterwards we received a penalty for a hand ball inside the box. We made no mistake to even the scores up. Jubilant that some luck was finally coming our way we took advantage of our new found karma and continued to attack their goals. Later that half we received a free kick just outside the penalty area with Harro curling the ball into the top far corner. From there we hung on to our slender lead until the end.
We did well having to scramble in defence throughout the game and it was a superb effort from every player in the team on the day.
Ressie Ladies: won 3 nil
Wow, the excitement and passion in the game from each and every one of the girls. We started strongly and held possession, with Amy converting an early goal. We went into the half with a one nil lead and continued to pass the ball well. Taylah and Kaylah did well in midfield with Claire and Kaels doing well on the wings. Our defender were awesome and it was great to welcome Keely back into the team. Fi pulled off a great penalty save. Carissa and Em did well up front creating chances and Gios scored a great non goal but was in the perfect position. It really was a great team effort which was great to see. Keep up the great work girls and bring on United. Bella was awesome running the line!!
Reserve Men v Wangaratta lost 1-8
The Ressies are still struggling with small numbers. Score was 1-1 at the half but Spurs tired in the second half and conceded too many goals. Thanks to the players who backed up to help the team out.
Senior ladies lost 5-0
The first half showed promise, with the girls keeping wangaratta off the scoreboard until the last two minutes, but were unfortunately unable to better them in the second half.
There were, however, some highlights, which included the amazing corner kicks by Jamie, all of which panicked the Wangaratta defense. Sarsha did a beautiful job throughout the game, showing off her ball skills and offering support to our other players. Shelby, Annie and Sara did some great running on the wings and put pressure on the wangaratta defense. Jess held the ball nicely, exhibiting good control. Congrats also to Jordan who received the mug.
Jog it off ladies, let’s show ’em what we’ve got next week!
Senior Men v Wangaratta lost 1-5
The seniors tried very hard but played a team in good form. Matt Townsend scored a top goal but the team missed a few chances which could have made the game a lot closer. Luke Dahl and Lewis Parrett played very well as did Joel McDonough in goals.
