Always a tough battle against the top side, but the girls went into the half with a one nil lead after a great corner from Ava and a cracking finish from Ashleigh!! The girls were first to the ball and played some nice patches together. Sienna was awesome in defence and was supported by KAtie, PAige and Alex. Daisy, Ruby and Tahlia A chased down every ball against a much larger opposition. Georgia and Olivia ran hard on the wings. Awards to Ava, Paige and Alex.
U12 v United won 7-1
We only just had a team at the start of the game with the ground swap from home to away we had players arriving after the start of the game (Facebook, Team app, website, register for emails). Ava started the scoring with a very nice finish from top of the box into the bottom corner. Not to be out done Brodie slotted our second with another excellent finish from a difficult angle which gave us a two goal lead at half time.
Ian came out of goals in the second half and soon had himself a hat-trick! he put himself in good position to finish off the excellent work from his team mates. Tomoki got a well deserved goal after weaving past three united players to score. Ava scored her second and we only conceded one late goal on the day. Rupert and Reese had great games at the back supported by Jono, Jash and Jayke.
NO TRAINING THIS WEDNESDAY 27 July due to ground closure.
Under 14 girls: won 5-4
Wow!! A very good fight back from the Under 14 girls who went goal to goal with United. United went into the half with a 3-2 lead but the mighty Hotspurs fought back and played with everything they had on a very wet pitch, finishing some nice goals on a wet pitch. Bella finished with two goals, Sarsha with 2 and Ava with 1. Thanks to the Under 12 girls who sat on the bench, as we played 9 a side with United. Keep working for each other girls and the results will come!!
U14s v United, Score: Us 1- Them…lots.
A very tough game was played against a strong and fast United team. Although we did not begin as well as we would have liked, a goal scored after a good pass from Nathan onto Leo late in the first half gave us some heart. We were much improved in the second period, with a few more chances being created and James almost putting one into the corner of the goal. Habba was very gutsy in the goals, blocking many of the attempts by United and fighting hard. Bella and Laura worked hard in defence as always, and Harry did well moving the ball up the field. Toby and Josh worked well on the wings and the team are to be credited for never giving up, despite a hefty score against them.
U16s v United won 5-1
Spurs 16s put in another combative and consistent performance as they defeated United 5-1 in the frost and cold. Unfazed by the change of venue they began the game strongly, winning every 50/50 ball in midfield and pouncing on every opportunity. The United keeper had to pull off several reflex saves to deny an early opener, however eventually Spurs broke the deadlock through Ben’s shot from the edge of the box. A lucky break for the opposition at the other end led to a quick equaliser, but Spurs then grabbed back the lead through Denzel, who scored just before half time. Fresh and energised, the team emerged from the half-time team talk and consolidated the three points, as Denzel added three more to his tally with no answer at the other end. Such an impressive performance bodes well for the future, especially with finals looming large on the horizon.
Reserve Ladies: loss 4 nil
A great effort from the reserve ladies who again saw a different 11 take the field. We started well on a very cold morning but unfortunately they converted early which made it hard to come back after going into the half 3 nil down, but after half time we fired up and played all over them in the 2nd half unfortunately we just couldn’t score!! Super proud of all the girls who played and battled out the game, we are still in with a chance of finals as we go into 2 weeks off!! Keep the heads up girls.
Reserve Men v United lost 0-3
The ressies had more troops this week and played much better against one of the top sides in this grade. Alex Birrell and Milky played well. Milky was unlucky not to score when he hit the crossbar. Khem from the thirds played his first ressie game and did a good job.
Senior ladies lost 4-0
A much better game this week which was unfortunately not reflected in the score.
The midfield had an excellent game, taking full advantage of work done by the defense and using the ball to make numerous goal opportunities. Nice work to Jamie, KT and Anna.
Sammie, Millie and Mia were all strong in defense and were well supported by Annie, Shelby, Sarsha and Sara on the wings.
The pressure put on United’s defense led to several corner kicks, which led to some very narrow misses or forced spectacular saves by their goalie. Jess Briggs had some beautiful attempts at goal which had the whole team in suspense. At the other end of the field Weavers made some skillful saves and her pressure on the ball forced United’s shots wide on a number of occasions.
A much better effort ladies. Let’s continue the positive attitude into next week’s game!
Senior Men v United lost 1-4
Most fair observers would see this game as being much closer than the final score indicates. Spurs certainly had enough chances to score more than one goal. Poor concentration handed our opponents their goals which was disappointing. Our young players of Indra , Lewis and Luke Dahl were our best. Luke finished off a top game with a great header to score our goal.
