U9 White vs Hotspurs Black
I love it when we play one of our other U9 sides, it’s great to see more of our kids in action. Black had two away so Rupert had a run with them and both teams played with no subs. The teams were fairly even and hard to separate but White took all the no points on offer that day. We almost scored the goal of the year when Brodie’s corner kick was headed by Lachlan just inches wide, you don’t see that play very often in U9s! Lachlan got a few goals and Brodie scored one direct from the corner (Chip off the old block). Calvin Lucy and Ashleigh all first-time footballers this year are showing great improvement each week. Reese and Tomoki shared a half each in goal and did very well. Reese’s determination in defense was excellent and Tomoki’s distribution from goal kicks was flawless.
We still to need strengthen our passing (wall pass, wall pass, wall pass) and be aware of our teammates so as to not get in each others way but move into space to be able to receive a pass from them.
Under 11’s V United
Under 12’s V United Won 2 – 1
A solid and gutsy 2-1 win with several players away playing footy instead. Defence was well drilled and repelled many attempts by United and when they were penetrated Scotty was there to make several saves including one outstanding save that I have never seen before in this age group. At full stretch after the initial save rebounding to United that blasted the ball from 5mt out which Scotty pushed over the cross bar. Fantastic.
All over the ground we were under pressure but all players pulled together to obtain this very valuable win and the precious 3 points.
Well done to all.
Under 12’s Girls V United Draw 1 – 1
Ow!! What a game from the Under 12 girls, we created plenty of chances and had most of the play with Lilly hitting the woodwork on several occasions. The girls passed the ball around well and with a full bench had plenty of energy to run. Alesha played well in goals but was great to see her have a run on the field with super sub Zara filling in, Great job girls!!! United went into the half 1 nil up after one quick break, but with plenty of effort the girls fought back to tie up the game in a very exciting Penalty shot. The girls continue to show improvement each and every week. Keep it up girls, Well Done!!! Remember your beanies and hats this week at training!!!
Under 13’s V United Draw 4 – 4
What started as a slow game quickly gathered momentum as Luke scored the first goal of the day.
Charters kicked the next two– a great effort from a defender. Thanks to Alec for playing up and scoring our fourth goal! 4/1 at half time! It was looking as though we were going to clean up again but United had other ideas. The intensity and pace of the game certainly increased as the opposition fought back, scoring another three goals, but at least no more. Bad luck to Oliver and Luke who just missed out on goals. Everyone passed well and played well.
Disappointed…….. YES.
Retirement? ……..NO WAY!
Under 14’s Girls V United Lost 0 – 11
Under 16’s V United Lost 2 – 5
Under 17’s Girls V United Lost 2 – 5
Third’s V United Draw 3 – 3
Over 35’s V Albury City White Lost 0 – 8
We lost to a far superior team on the day with them being well structured & well drilled. I guess that’s what happens when you train.
Once again we played well in patches (which at one stage resulted in the ball being cleared of the opponent goal line) but were let down by poor choices. Also a bit hard playing a team that averages out about 10 years younger than us.
Thanks to Marcus Copsey for putting his hand up & refereeing a difficult game under trying circumstances.
Reserve Women V United Lost 0 – 2
The ladies all played well and in a tight game were Nil all at half time but unfortunately a couple of silly mistakes and an own goal cost us the game. Kate was absolutely awesome in goals which warmed her up for the Seniors(Thanks Kate). The defence held well with Bec S, Ash, Beth and Danielle. United had plenty of shots but we kept the score down. The midfield passed the ball well, with Miki running non stop again, but unfortunately we could not score. Well Done girls on a great team effort!!!
Reserves V United Lost 2 – 4
After the disappointing result against Benalla. The Reserves were determined to it make up with a strong showing against United. A setback early on conceding a penalty but it didn’t stop them pushing forward and were rewarded with a goal from Milky with good build up play from Sam Harriss. Then just before half-time Tashi scored a cracking goal with a curling shot in the top corner giving us a 2-1 lead. The second half didn’t start off as well with a goal conceded within a minute from a United corner. As we are looking for the winner, United got us on the counter with two late goals to make the final result 2-4. The defense was solid lead by James Patton despite the goals and Sam Harriss was solid in the midfield.
Seniors V United Draw 2 – 2
It’s Derby Day! United vs. Spurs. Over the last 15 years there has been some epic encounters and Sunday was no exception. Like a heavyweight fight the two teams went toe to toe but early on they couldn’t find the knockout punch with both Goalkeepers being solid between the sticks. United scored just before the break but it will the second half especially the last 10 mins people will be talking about. United grabbed a second on the counter and the reaction on their sideline thought that was enough. We had a number of chances to get back into it including James Eggleston hitting both posts without the ball crossing the line. It wasn’t until with five mins to go, Nick Musarra scored on a rebound from a shot to make it a tense finish. Then what proved to be the last kick of the game Musarra did it again this time from a free kick with the result ending a draw. Great comeback from the Spurs Boys and meant a lot to everyone especially to Coach John Irvine whose dance down the sideline when we scored the equalizer proved what it meant to him and on his birthday no less.
