After a brief warm up the White team were raring to go and started off really well. There was pressure around both boxes until a head knock to Singyu knocked us off our stride. Murray did well in defence (when he wasn’t eating oranges) and our stand-in keeper (thanks to Dustin’s cousin) stopped several long range efforts. Isaiah was everywhere as usual, backed up by Sienna, Tilly 1 and Tilly 2 in midfield but we just couldn’t squeeze a goal in. Another head knock to Tilly 2 put us a man down for a while but she bravely came back on and joined in a frantic last 5 minutes.
Well done to our opponents today, Hotspurs Black, it was great playing against you.

Under 9 GOLD

Under 10s
Unfortunately the result did not go our way but we put in a huge effort all over the field. The standout performers this week were both goal keepers. Harley in the first half and Ollie in the second both pulled of some spectacular saves. Cody slotted a nice goal and Maddie played another great game. Maddie continues to learn each week and positions herself like a veteran. However this weeks awards were deservedly won by Max who played an unbelievable game, taking on anyone in his way and managed to turn defence into attack on numerous occasions. Another excellent defensive effort by Caleb saw him pick up the other award. Caleb has no fear and continues to put his body on the line week after week. No game this weekend, however we will train this Wednesday.

U11s v Benalla won 8 – 1
It looked like it was going to be another one of those days when we dominate but can not find the back of the net. Benalla’s goalie had a very good game although we made him look good by shooting at him and not into the corners of the goal. It could have been 8 nil at half time. Thank goodness for Jack putting us 1 up before the break.
At half time we bought on Jay, Brodie and Tomoki. I reminded the team to use the wings and encouraged Rupert and Jonathon to keep getting forward from positions 2 and 5.
The second half started and within 10 minutes Mr Clinical (Tomoki) had a hatrick and the team was running Benalla ragged down the wings and putting some great crosses in to the box where Tomo was calmly putting them away. Brodie got a goal which was good reward for his determined and hard work. Tomo stole the show finishing with 6 goals for the day.

Wendy’s award goes to Rupert for running the other wing and for team commitment.
McDonalds award goes to Tomoki for his brilliant finishing, I think he only missed one chance.

Training Wednesday June 10 will be a game vs U12 Girls, where boots and shin pads and training may go a little later.
Next game will be Saturday June 13 at South Wangaratta Reserve 10:30 am kick off.

Under 12s Girls V Melrose Won 10 – 2
A great second half from the girls saw them step it up!! Great passes were made and many chances created after a little bit of a slow start. Halle, Ava and Charlotte all had strong games and Scarlett was awesome in goals. Ciara and Grace were as solid as ever in defence being first to the ball and chasing hard. Thanks to Dee for starting the girls off and to Kate for running the line. Keep working girls. Thanks also to all the parents who helped on our Duty Day!! Awards to Halle, Evy and Scarlett

A very good game from the Under 14 girls again very hard with Benalla only having 8, Thankyou to the Under 12 girls for your patience and sitting on the bench. We created many chances but just couldn’t find the back of the net!! Riley had a run on field and did a great job with Emma playing well on the wing, Sarsha was solid all over the field and unlucky not to finish with more goals. Third’s V Benalla Won 5 – 3

Over 35s V Melrose Lost 0 – 6
The gorilla on the field was the Melrose team, they bumped and thumped as well as knew how to pass to each other, frustratingly with pin point accuracy. We put together a few nice passages of play and had a couple of chances each half but spent a lot of time defending, by the end of the season we will be quite adept at this. Half way through so let’s enjoy the long weekend and the second half of the season.

Reserve Women Gold V Benalla Won 17 – 1
A huge game for the reserve ladies and very tough game when Benella only have eight players and Spurs had 16!! So we played in quarters and created many chances. Gios was the assist queen of the day on her last home game, Alex was on fire and actually found the back of the net 5 times with some very nice finishes, Imogen and Jess B both finished with 3 and then the rest were shared around. Jules game out of goals and had a run on the field, thanks Carissa for taking one for the team and playing keeper. Thanks also to the seniors who have supported us over the past few weeks, I hope it can continue. A great team result, well done girls!!

The Black U6 team are all playing well and are getting use to passing the ball around.
Lillian had some great touches, Macca did some awesome big kicks down the field, Rolo dribbled the ball up the line like a pro.
Rhiannon passed the ball around with a smile as always. Lukas and Will had a great run on the field, moving the ball around and defending when needed with Henry scoring a few great goals.
The Blacks are improving every week and I love the enthusiasm .

Hotspurs Black played an absolutely brilliant game on a absolutely beautiful day. All their hard work from training shone through and they passed the ball beautiful, put pressure on the ball and scored some glorious goals. Well done to Charlie and Logan for receiving the awards this week. Your positioning and hard work helped make this a very enjoying game to watch.

A great fight saw the under 8’s go down 2-0. The boys and girls all put in their best efforts but with a few players missing we couldn’t get away with a win. a huge thank you to Josh and Riley from the under 7’s for filling in this week.

Under 10s v Myrtleford (2-4)
As fill in coach this week, I had the absolute pleasure of guiding these young soccer players around the field and what a fantastic job they did! We were a player down and Ryley Buchanan from the Under 9s stepped up to the bigger field with ease and played a great game in the midfield, chasing down every ball. All players used the field and passed the ball around to create space and opportunities. Our midfield and forward line comprising of Ben McNay, Jeremy Roberts, Maddie McCormack, Ollie Cutler and Jack Furze played tirelessly – passing, chasing, counter-attacking and shooting – with teamwork combining to secure two goals finished off by Jack Furze. A moment of serendipity when Michael Paine pulled on the keeper’s shirt – we have discovered a natural – he worked the goal square with confidence and saved numerous attempts on goal – a very impressive effort. Our backline comprising of Max McCormack, Kaleb Buffett and Sam Jacobson, were solid workers and through their persistence they turned defence into attack and fed our midfielders balls all game.
I really wish I could have given every player an award as they just did not stop trying and showed sportsmanship throughout the entire match. I was able to sneak in three awards (don’t tell Justin): Michael Paine received the Cold Rock Achievement Award for his tremendous efforts in goal the entire game with a constant smile on his face, Jeremy Roberts received the Wendy’s Achievement Award for his consistent tackling and passing throughout the game, and Sam Jacobson received the Wendy’s Achievement Award for improvement in his defensive technique during the game.
Congratulations to all players – you are all improving every week, so keep on playing like a team and GO SPURS!!!

A much stronger display from the mighty Under 12 girls. They passed the ball around well and found each others feet. Some very nice goals were scored in some quick one on one with the keeper. A strong team effort!! Awards went to: Scarlett, Ciara, Bella G and Ava who were best on field. Special mention to Charlotte for volunteering at half time to have ago at goal keeping and a great job she did. Well Done team. Keep it up!!

Under 16s v Wodonga Heart Won 4 – 0
With the boys encountering the first real frost of the year, the field was snowy white and combined with boot clogging freshly cut grass made for a
slippery field. The game started slowly until the sun came out which energised the team to put Ollie in position to score the opening goal. Numerous attempts for another goal in the first half were foiled by a skilled Heart defence. Rarely was Ray needed but he must have been away in the land of serendipity as he gave the coach and the crowd heart failure with his casual approach to saving goals A pep talk and reminder from Coach John at half time had the desired effect and Zac scored shortly after the resumption of play. Mitchell was having a good game setting up attacking raids on both sides of the field from the midfield. Anna scored the next goal from a corner only to have it ruled she was offside. Better luck next time Anna , not long after Luke was allowed a little space outside the box and found the back of the net with a well struck ball. The final goal of the game went to Ben who ran down a perfect through ball to be one on one with the keeper.

Thirds v Wodonga Heart Won 3 – 2

Over 35s v Wodonga Heart Won 2 – 1
Our second win for the season, what a serendipitous event for the team. We had two subs for the first time and this helped us but we need to work out subs better, having had none for a while this is a problem we can deal with. Good goals to Foxy and Jim B in the first half and saves by John in goal helped our cause. As we talked at half time, when we pass to our team and run to space we can match other teams, just fitness is a problem. Can we trust Rob Tuksar about not ruining us at training on Thursday ? Well done guys and a tough one this week.

Reserve Women Gold v Wodonga Heart Won 2 – 1

A very solid game for the reserve ladies who are passing the ball around wel and creating some very nice chances. A strong second half saw us hold the possession and have time and space on the ball. Great goals to Jess A and Jess B. Thanks to Imogen, Sammy and Jess B who helped us out this week, your support is fantastic and we appreciate it!! Thanks Clint for running the line. Keep up the great Positive Team work girls.

Reserve Women Black v St Pats Lost 0 – 1
The girls played a much better game in comparison to last week and should be very proud of their efforts. With some guidance from the seniors who stepped up to help out the girls showed great structure and positioning enabling some impressive plays and shots at goal. An unfortunate result given how hard the girls worked and the score definitely does not reflect how they performed. Congratulations to the stand out players for this week Taneesha (received the mug this week {with soft drink of course}), Sam and Le-Anne. You played some great football. With more practice and training sessions we will continue to improve and impress each week.

Reserves v Wodonga Heart Lost 1 – 2
The Ressies were disappointed to lose this game. It was one they could have won. Missed chances cost them dearly when their opponents scored two quick goals in the second half after Spurs dominated the game. Joe Suggates goal was a beauty and a highlight of the game Joe played well as did Irish and Durga in the midfield. Ethan Rimmer played at the back to help the team out and played a strong game.

Seniors v Wodonga Heart Won 2 – 1
The seniors notched successive wins with a solid performance. Probably should have won by more and we let our opponents back in the game by not taking the early chances we had. Brendan Edwards had an excellent first senior game. Mick Corkett and Paul Kinning also had top games. Ryan Weston scored a great goal to cap off a strong game by him. A pleasing team performance.

Hotspurs Black played a strong game with Coby, Jonathan and Will striking the ball nicely up front. Stuart had some fantastic runs and passes proving to be the best on ground and receiving the Cold Rock Award for his efforts.

Under 8s Gold v Melrose
Well it was a beautiful day for soccer! With Alice away on holidays, we had Sam and Isla back and the team was raring to go. With Isla in goals she might as well been frozen in time as she did not touch the ball for the first half, Mitchel and Sam played awesome in defence not letting the opposition pass. Zavier and Ryan passed the ball beautifully in the centre and Elisha and Lenny started well up front slotting some great goals. Second half saw pocket rocket Isla finally touch the ball and cause havoc up front for the opposition. Poppy was everywhere running up and down the field helping out in attack and defence, showing us her never give up attitude.

Under 9s GOLD v Melrose
A great turn out on a glorious day. Alex and Tahlia shared goalie duty and stopped some impressive shots at goal. Louis and Declan continue to be consistent in defence, clearing the ball from the danger zone. Ben and Jeremy played forward and back with speed and precision. Alistair and Peter’s control on the ball was impressive. Harley and Tyreece were awesome in the centre with great passing between them. Matthew had a positive impact on the game as soon as he ran onto the pitch. All in all, Coach Shaun was proud of their efforts. Jeremy took home the Wendy’s Certificate for his effort this week. Last week, the Cold Rock award went to Declan.

Under 10s
It was the first hit-out for the team under the new 2 team structure and it was an unbelievable game by the team with some great passing and excellent defensive work. However it was the effort by each team member which was the highlight of the day, proven by the exhaustion of the players after he game. Ollie had a great first half in goals saving plenty of shots and putting his body on the line. Cody had a blinder first in defence and then in the midfield, and Sam played an awesome first half up front. Max, Maddie and Kaleb all had great games making plenty of tackles and showing how their passing games continue to improve each week. We also welcomed Jeremy, Ben and Harley to the team and they showed they have what it takes by making some key defensive plays and plenty of precise passing in attack. However it was Jack who took out the player of the match award this week for his attacking effort first in the midfield and then up front. His never give up attitude led to him
netting 4 great goals. Well done Jack and well done team.

Under 11s v St Pats drew 0 – 0

A much improved team performance by all players. It was great not to concede a goal and that was due to not giving the ball up in dangerous positions too often and some desperate defence and some great saves by Ian.
We showed more determination and drive and attack with more purpose than previous weeks. Their keeper was worked more than ours and they also cleared many from their goal line. Rupert hit the upright and Bidish put one over the bar. Brodie, Dawson, Tomoki and Ava were unable to find the back of the net but not for trying as we peppered their goal to no avail. With some better decision-making, like making that extra pass instead of taking the shot too early from too far out, we may well find ourselves finishing off our good work with many more goals.
Let’s work hard at training this week on improving these small things for future games.

No one was frozen today, it was out with the sunscreen and welcome to the team John Corkett. With his addition we numbered 11 against a team with five subs, so we were going to struggle and it showed towards the end of the game. We played a bit of good football for some bits of the game but had to constantly defend in others. We know we need to train to be a force in this comp but at least the Sunday run around keeps us a bit fit. Next week we play to see what finals position we have, hopefully with subs this time.

Reserve Women Black v United Lost 0 – 7
Unfortunately the start and end of this game were poor. The girls picked it up well in the middle and showed we can play a strong game at times. With more training sessions together the girls will improve significantly. Thanks to Annie, Caitlyn, Kendal, Emily and Lily for helping out and giving the girls opportunity for rests.

Reserves v St Pats Lost 2 – 3

A game were the Ressies could have got some points. The team led twice during the game when Durga and Mitch Ryan scored good goals. Unfortunately poor defence and a penalty allowed our opponents to grab the win. Zac and Joe played well at the back and Durga was very busy in midfield. Brendan Edwards had a good game in the forwards.

Seniors v St Pats Won 3 – 2

The senior men got a much needed win with a very strong second half. Down by two goals at halftime James Eggleston and Jon Cochrane really
lifted in midfield and the team overran St.Pats to get three goals and secure three points. Both Indra’s played well and Paul Kinning was excellent in
organising the defence. The winning goal was scored by Durga Gurung who came on as a substitute and did a great job for the team.
Well done everyone!
