Some happy faces from the Gala Day
Women in football
Round 8 is promoting women in football. The initiative highlights the roles women hold in football. It is also helps create awareness about the importance of stopping violence against women. To mark the occasion we are wearing pink this weekend in some way in our women’s games and snr games.
We will have a raffle on the day and donate money to a local charity as well as the Under 12/14 girls walking out with the snr players and having a game at half time of the snr men’s. So please wear some pink, buy a raffle ticket this Sunday to support the cause.

MiniRoos update
MiniRoos Gala Day – Saturday 2nd May
On a great day for soccer, 10 Albury Hotspurs teams ranging from Under 6 to Under 10 took part in our first Mini Roos Gala day for the year at Willow Park, Wodonga. It was a big day for all the kids as each team played 4 games over the course the day. All the kids showed great enthusiasm, eagerness to play and great sportsmanship. I received a compliment from a parent of another club, who commented on what a lovely and friendly club we were and what a pleasure it was to play against us.
We had 3 young coaches coach for the first time, Felix Baker, Sarsha Smith and Bella Godfrey. They did such a fantastic job, showed maturity above their years. Keep up the great work! Also to our more experienced coaches thanks again for a great day!
I would like to thank all the dedicated supporters, Mums, Dads, Brothers, Sisters and Grandparents that came along to support the teams. Without your time and support the kids would be unable to play our great game.
And last of all to all Hotspurs kids, it was great to see you all play with great enthusiasm and display great sportsmanship. You should be all very proud of yourselves. Let’s keep it for the rest of the season.

Match reports
Under 11s V Albury United Lost 1 – 3
A good effort was put in by all players. We missed a few chances and United took theirs and other than that, there was not much that separated the teams. The back four had a very good game and kept the structure most times. Little Mitch was the energiser bunny, running at the United defence, nipping in and getting to the ball first. Brodie scored our goal and it was another good finish as well.
The Sodens award this week goes to Rupert, well done mate, very good game in the heart of the defence.
Ava picks up the Sportspower award, also a very good game in defence.
And because he never gave up, Reese receives the Baker’s Delight award.
Under 12s V Albury United Won 4 – 0
This team has improved greatly over the last month. Their teamwork and support play are excellent and as a result the team is getting good results. The defence of Bailey, Sanjay and Toby played solidly. Noah and Jack combined very well in midfield. Nathan scored a great goal up front and
Harry continued his scoring spree with more goals. Well done everyone and keep up the good work.
Under 12s Girls V Albury United Won 4 – 2
A solid win for the Under 12 girls under Roys guidance this week, the girls all played well and was a great team effort. Special mention to Lil for her courage in goals. Keep up the great work girls and a huge thank you to Roy for looking after the girls this week.
Under 13s V Albury United Lost 0 – 9
The boys suffered their first BIG loss this week against a talented United team. Being on the wrong side of a 9/0 result. Everyone tried their hardest but were clearly up against a talented team.
Award winner was Will Curd who played his heart out. As did all the team.
Happy birthday to WILL H and HARRY M.
Keep your heads up and remember that the best team in May is not necessarily the best team all year.
Under 14s V Albury United Lost 1 – 3
A great start to the game saw us with most of the play. A penalty was given against us about 10 minutes in and our heads dropped a bit until Scotty saved the goal, and our spirits were lifted again. The defence had there work cut out chasing United’s attack who were very fast. Half time saw us 2/0 down. 10 minutes into the second half Felix scored off a brilliant pass from Gez. Our attack kept pushing but United seemed to always be there. A late goal to United with 90 seconds to go made the full time score 3/1. Well done to the boys not a bad score against a strong team.
Awards: Bagat, Gez, Bryce.
Under 14s Girls V Albury United Lost 1 – 3
A very hot afternoon for the girls but they played well and were unlucky not to score more goals as they created chances. Great work from the Under 12 girls for providing support each week and a massive thank you to Dee for coaching the girls on the day. Great work girls. Awards: Yasmin, Halle, Laura
Under 16s V Albury United Won 2 – 0
The boys were set a big task taking on Albury United on Sunday. They came out looking ready to go and started the game which turned out to be very fast paced. The boys fought hard in the first half and were given a reward when with only minutes to go Felix slotted home a goal to put spurs 1-0 up. The defence held strong in the first half to keep it 1-0 at half time. Spurs started the second half the same way they finished the first, with strong attacking and defending. Halfway through the second half Ben finished off a ball put through the united defence to make it 2-0 spurs way. The defence held strong once again keeping united scoreless throughout the entire game helping to give the boys a thoroughly deserved 2-0 victory. A great game played by all the boys and best of luck for next weekend.
Thirds V Albury United Lost 0 – 4
Over 35s V Albury United Lost 1 – 6
Reserve Women Gold V Albury United Won 3 – 1
With only 10 players and without our super coach Fee, but a pep talk from her through a text message we showed the hotspurs passion.
A great game had by each of the ten players, everyone worked for each other.
Skip (Alex) kicked her first goal for the season. A great high looping shot. Great work. I feel there is more to come in the next few weeks.
With Jess A’s speedy Gonzalez pace she managed to net two great goals.
What a great 3-1 win by the girls. Keep it up
Reserve Women Black V Benalla Won 9 – 4
Ressie Black showed awesome teamwork while overpowering Benalla to win 9-4. We’re starting to consolidate Nat’s fab coaching and Mitch’s tip’s and drills. Beth’s pre-game advice and support was indispensable.
Benalla’s goalie did a great job under the avalanche of goal attempts from our forward line. Taneesha put through lovely crosses and assists in the second half as Keely dominated the right wing and pounded the goal. Shelby’s runs were too quick for the Benalla backs and she made it through to score a goal. Massive thanks to Deb who jumped in to play her first game in 18 months, bagging two goals. Huge thanks too to Annie for missing her Seniors game to make up our struggling numbers, and for scoring goals!
Le-anne was courageous in goals, not even a black and blue ring finger could hold her back. Le-anne’s keeping skills developed well throughout the game but she is willing to give up the gloves and sand rash if someone else wants the job. Sam’s solid sweeping kept the box clear and Isabella had a really great game in the back line.
Thanks to Angus Mackinnon for running the line, and Lachlan for stepping in as coach and sub commander. The whole team appreciated the beautiful sunny Benalla day and positive team vibes. We even had English spectators (unpaid and unrelated to anyone in the team) come over at the end to tell us how much they enjoyed watching our game. Nice work ladies!
Reserves V Albury United Lost 0 – 1
The Reserves had a real crack on Sunday but could not quite get a result. Tuksar and Belgre teamed up well at the back. Brendan was good in goals and Ethan Rimmer had a strong game in the midfield. Joe played a strong game on the left side of defence. The attitude was good and hopefully the
next win is close.
Ladies V Albury United Lost 0 – 7
First of all a special thanks to Tommy for stepping in as coach in Mitch’s absence.
The girls were determined to show they could play well in the first half as they do in the second, and against Albury United they proved it.
The defence was solid throughout, and adapted well to a surprise new and interesting formation (thanks Tommy!). Jamie made a gallant effort as stopper, frustrating the other team to no end. Tayla and Kaylah held the line well, getting the opposition off-side a number of times. Any balls that made it through were gathered well by Weavers, who has become a remarkable goal keeper in a very short period of time.
Amelia and Imogen provided good support and some fast runs down the lines, whilst Ali and Alex always managed to find space. Samie showed some speed in the middle and Jess Briggs showed her prowess with her perfectly timed passes up front. Lily played well in a number of positions on field, and dropped back late in the game to prevent a through-ball reaching the goals.
Dani and Tayla made a huge effort, dropping to assist in the reserve game, where they played a full match, before doubling up in seniors. Despite the physical exhaustion of two matches, they continued to push on. Thank you ladies!
Thank you also to Jess Alvey, Carissa, Alex and Snowy for also stepping up to assist the seniors. Their skills in the attack were greatly appreciated.
The final score, 7-0, did not show the tremendous effort the whole team put into the match. The ability of the team to play excellent for the full 90 minutes, though, means that they have finally found their footing and will be a force to be reckoned with the rest of the season.
Seniors V Albury United Lost 0 – 2
This was a tight game with the Spurs fighting hard all day. Our opponents scored just before halftime and right on fulltime which was disappointing. Joel McDonough had an outstanding game in goal making some great saves. John Cochrane was also very good. They were well supported by Mick Corkett, Middi and Paul at the back. Ryan and Eggy worked hard in midfield.
