Brendan O’Neill (Irish) was injured in Sundays reserves game and has ended up with a fracture of his lower leg. Irish is a very popular member of our club and co-coach of our Elevens. We wish Brendan a quick recovery and look forward to seeing him on both feet very soon.

AWFA Reps

A huge congratulations to all AWFA rep teams boys and girls who travelled to Bendigo over the long weekend. Some fantastic football was played over the three days in some very trying conditions!! It was great to see so many Hotspurs players represented, they did themselves and their teams very proud and most of all our great club!! Special Mention to Anna Parrett who played in  the Under 16 girls as this was her last rep carnival!! Well Done to all involved.

Sarsha Smith

Sarsha will be selling some cakes at the Spurs canteen on Sunday to help cover some of her representative football costs. Sarsha is a great representative of our club-please support her.

The game of the year so far. We played the White team and after a rusty start were down 4-2 late in the second half, but with cracking goals from Cooper and Eloise saw us back on level terms and Poppy kicking the sealer near the end. 5-4
It was however the defensive pressure of Nick and Charlie that proved the difference in the end. I think we’ve found their futures as sweepers and wing backs.

U12 Boys v Diamonds lost 0-2
A much improved performance from the last time we played them. We were unlucky not to score as we had enough chances to do so except for some excellent keeping by their goalkeeper. Our Ian was not to be out done and made his share of great saves as well. Well done team.

Under 12 girls: Loss 5 nil
A tough game for the girls against a side we beat 2 weeks ago. Diamonds passed the ball well and we couldnt hold them up. Ruby, Ashleigh and Daisy played well and Ava tried to be everywhere. Thanks Pete for running the Line again!!

Under 14 girls- nil all
A fantastic game of football to watch, these girls have such courage and play in the spirit of the game. Lil was absolutely amazing in golas growing about 1 metre to pull of a save going for the top corner. Bella and Sarsha teamed up well, with our defenders playing a great game together and holding out Diamonds. Awards to Lil, Mim and Grace. Well Done girls!!

Over 35s v Diamonds Lost 3-5
We were still asleep when we hit the park an hour earlier than usual. Within a blink of an eye we were down 0-3 and it took 10 minutes of backpedalling to jolt us from our slumber. We fought back hard and went to the break 1-3 down.
The second half was played with a steely determination with us gaining a goal to be within reach at 2-3. The goals kept coming from both teams at 2-4, then 3-4. The last goal to them in the dying minute off another deflection was typical of our recent luck. Still, we showed great tenacity in coming back from our poor start and clawing our way back into the game. Another positive to come from this game is the fact that we are now starting to score goals off the chances we create.
A great team effort.

Reserve Ladies: Loss 9-1
A tough day out for the reserve ladies!! We started so well in the first 15 minutes and even scored the first goal. Diamonds passed the ball extremely well and were super quick up front scoring goals from all over. Mary and Jess were strong up front and our midfield worked hard with Kate, Carissa and Claire doing their best, they were supported on the wings by Taneesha, Kaels and Gios. Our defenders worked hard but we just couldnt hold a very strong opposition. Keep working at it girls, the results will come!! Thanks again to the Castle boys for running the Line

Senior Ladies lost 3-1
The senior ladies had a stellar game on Sunday, resulting in a competitive score against a team high up on the ladder. Conceding only one goal in the first half, the score did not reflect the percentage of time the ball was in their half. The opposition pushed their players back into defence in order to stem the flow of opportunities that the girls created.
Determined to keep the score tight, the girls came out of half time strong, keeping the ball in the attacking half most of the time. Unfortunately another goal was conceded on a rare opportunity for the opposition. The determination paid off not soon after, though, when Jamie took advantage of the smooth play and got our goal which brought the score back to a one goal difference. Despite their perseverance for the entire 90 minutes, diamonds managed to get a goal in the last dying minute to stretch their lead to 3-1.
The girls are happy with the result though, a competitive score for a competitive team. Keep working hard girls and the results will come!

Reserves Men v Diamonds lost 3-6
This was an incredible game as the ressies led 3-0 at halftime. An injury to Irish held the game up for some time and after the break it appeared the teams had swapped shirts ! The shows the importance of playing for the whole game because if a team drops off things can change very quickly. A hard lesson for the ressies and we look forward to them bouncing back next week.

Senior Men v Diamonds won 4-0
Probably our best performance of the season. Spurs dominated the first half but there was no score at the break. The team continued their dominance and we were rewarded with four well taken goals. Mitch Ryan and Eggy were excellent up front and scored two goals and one goal respectively. The defence was very good keeping a clean sheet. Ray Kausche in goal made a couple of important saves and Paul Kinning and Indra were also outstanding. It was a top effort from the whole team.

U11s v Melrose lost 0-6
Well, what a game, even though we did not win we played well. Melrose scores in the first minute, but that did not get us down, and we kept putting the pressure on Melrose.
Ollie did a great job as the keeper. Our midfield and defence passed the ball around really well.The forwards had a few great runs towards goal, but we were unlucky not to score.
I think we played really well and look forward to the next game.

U12s v Melrose lost 2-6
Melrose got the jump on us early and we didn’t put enough midfield pressure on them which made it easy for them to make their pass and their pace up front was too much for our defense to handle and we found ourselves down 4 nil at have time.
The second half we put more pressure on them, tackled harder and showed a lot more fight which led to two good team goals finished off by Ava and Tomoki.

A solid game from the Under 12 girls, Ava scored all 3 goals and the team were unlucky not to score a few more. We welcomed Ashleigh into the team and she had a great game. Under 14 girls drew 2 all
A fair result for the Under 14 who were 1 nil down at half time but the girls battled and played on in a physical contest. The girls were moving the ball well and were unlucky not to convert a few more from great crosses from Sarsha. Our defenders were solid and played hard and chased them down. Bella played well and gave everything. Keep pushing girls and the results will come. Awards to Ava, Bella and Scarlet.

Over 35s v Melrose Lost 0-2
A much improved effort from the previous weeks. We held our own for the majority of the game with great teamwork & cohesion between defence, midfield & attack. A goal to them after a mad scramble in the box was all that separated us at the end of the 1 st half. We continue to create chances for ourselves during games but unfortunately are unable to convert them. Their 2 nd goal at the death of the game was shattering. We should have come away with at least a point.
Not one player in the squad gave up trying. A fantastic endeavour from everyone today despite what the score line says.

Reserve Ladies lost 1 nil
Another good game from the reserve ladies who again held possession for majority of the first half. The girls were passing the ball well and creating many chances. Our defenders were solid on the ball and played well together. Gios was skillful on the wing and got around their players. Kt and claire moved the ball well in the midfield. With only 2 minutes to go they scored a very late goal. Keep up the great team work girls and enjoy the long weekend!!

Reserve Men v Melrose Drew 2-2
The Ressies led two goals to nil early in the game after goals from Jeremy Norton (Milky) and Nick Baily. The team had opportunities to increase their lead but couldn’t take the chances. Unfortunately our opponents got back into game to grab a draw. Ranga, Nick Baily, Zac Brodie, Milky and James Shannon all had strong games for the reserves.

Senior Men v Melrose FC Lost 0-1 (Luders/Laramee Cup)
This was a close and very competitive game. The defence of both teams were on top and very few chances were created. Melrose scored in the 87th minute to take back the L/L Cup. While the Seniors were very disappointed with the result their commitment could not be questioned. It is great to see young players like Lewis Parrett and Ryan Smith playing so well. Ray Kausche in goals, Mark Belgre, Paul Kinning and Indra Guragain all played top games on Sunday. Matt Townsend playing his 100th game was also very good.

Luders-Laramee Cup

This Sunday the senior mens sides from Spurs and Melrose will be playing for the Luders Laramee Cup. The game is played each year in recognition of Bill Luders (Hotspurs) and Hans Laramee (Melrose) who founded our respective clubs in 1973 and both were also instrumental in forming the Albury Wodonga Football Association.
Hotspurs won the game last year and will be trying to retain it again.

U11s v Heart won 10-0
The match today went pretty good overall and the coaches worked really well on trying to keep our running up, to forget about the cold!
Mitch worked good on defence, passing it up and down the line and Xander did some really good big kicks.
Mid-fielders and forwards worked really hard at keeping the ball at the other end of the field. Jesse, Siri, Cody and Jack worked really well at striker and mid-fielder, and I think everyone worked really well as a TEAM!

Under 12 girls won 2-0
This was a one versus 2 clash with Diamonds not loosing a game this season but the mighty under 12 girls took it to them and were lead by Ava. The girls played really well and were nil all at half time after some awesome saves from super keeper Lil. We moved the ball well and Mattea finished a great goal and then Daisy passed to Ava and she converted a nice goal. Great team work by all. Awards to: Ava, MAttea, Ruby and Lil.

Under 14 girls won 2-1
This team has come so far and are really gelling as a team, they wanted the win and played hard attacking and defensive football which was great to see. The girls held position and were first to the ball. Sarsha put away a penalty to get us on the board and the girls continued to battle. Our defenders were awesome and super strong chasing down every ball and holding them out. A great running goal was scored by Scarlet to put us 2 to 1 up. Well Done girls a super team effort. Awards to LAura, Grace and Kate.

U16s v Heart won 13-0
It was a rather chilly and very foggy morning that greeted the ladder leaders venture to Willow Park. In the early exchanges Heart put up some resistance, however Spurs turned up the heat when the sun finally came out and blew the opposition away.
A 13-0 scoreline in Spurs favour has helped improve the goal differential no end, and it could have been more if not for a few wayward shots and the odd ball that was held instead of being played.
The backline and defensive mid were awesome with poor old Scotty having a very cold day at keeper and it is hard to recall him touching a defensive ball. The entire team played extremely well and a real highlight was Charters’ bomb of a goal from outside 30m, it was an absolute gem and insured that the backline can let the others know they also have some scoring prowess.
Coach John, assistant coach Joel and Manager Allison certainly have this team humming along, currently on top of the ladder with a game in hand against their closet rivals in Cobram Roar.
Todays goal scorers were Felix with 5 (you can stay out of the backline now), Zac and Ollie with 2 each, and Gez, Mitch, the aforementioned Charters and Luke all bagged a goal also.
Keep it up Spurs we love watching you play.

O35s v Heart Won 8-0
It feels good to be back on the winners list. A confidence boosting win is just what we needed.
Against a struggling Heart side we played very well, with lots of talking, no panic and time on the ball. We pushed the ball around the park with great aplomb. 7 different goal scorers is testament to that and showed that we have the potential to strike from anywhere on the field.
Well done to every player and let’s take this approach into the next game.

O35s v St Pats Lost 1-10
We were no match for the well drilled and organised St Pats side that are top of the table. Once again we played well in patches but are haemorrhaging goals at the back. We are a better team than the recent score lines of the past games suggest.
Let’s put this one down to experience and move on.

Reserve ladies lost 2-1
The girls played well and held possession for majority of the game and were unlucky not to come away with the points. Our defenders were awesome and were lead by Taylah, Em weavers had a fantastic game and marked their strongest player. It was great to see Jess A return to the pitch and score a great goal. The results will come girls the more we play and train together. Snowy did an awesome job coaching and making the subs. Thanks to Jack for running the line and to our super Marshalls. Keep working girls!!

Get well Joel

Our senior goalkeeper Joel McDonough took a heavy knock last sunday and suffered a cracked rib. Joel went to hospital and is now feeling much better. Looking  forward to seeing Joel back on the field soon.

Another great team performance, Cooper Howard scored 5 goals with a few outstanding efforts. Elisha Wild played outstanding football and showed us her ability as a stopper and also her favoured forward spot slotting one of the best goals you will see in this age group.
Special efforts in goals from Harry who made a terrific save with his face and Logan who kept the score down despite being left one out on many occasions by a couple of lax defensive moments.

U12s v St Pats lost 2-3

Under 12 girls v Melrose drew 0-0
The girls continue to show improvement each and every week. Our defenders were solid with Lily doing a great job as keeper. Our mid fielders passed the ball around well with Mattea, Alex and Georgia doing well. Olivia, Tahila A and Ruby did a great job upfront with Ruby coming close to scoring. A great team effort, keep up the great work girls!! Awards to Lily, Brooke and Ruby and a huge thankyou to Bella for being our referee, great job and to Peter for running the line.

A solid game from the girls who passed the ball around well and created many scoring opportunities. Alesha did a great job up front finishing with 5 goals. Mim did a great job on the wing and our defenders were as solid as ever with great runs from Grace and Yasmin on the wing. Thanks to the under 12 girls who support the team every week. Thanks Scott for running the line. Awards to Sarsha, Yas and Alesha.

Reserve Ladies v St PAts won 3-2
A great game for the reserve ladies who every week field a different 11 but again we started strongly and had a 2 nil lead at half time! St Pats came back and were 2 all but then a great finish by Amy put us in front and we held on!!
With a full team available the girls passed the ball well, Our defenders were great and were lead by Taylah and Keely chased everything down. Snowy was awesome in goals pulling off some great saves. Kaels and Em used the wings well with Em scoring a great goal!! Carissa held the centre with Claire and created many chances and to all of our subs you did a fantastic job!! Keep up the great team work girls and the results will come!! Go Spurs!!!

Reserve Men v St.Pats won 3-2
The Ressies played a poor first half and found themselves down at halftime. The second half saw a much better performance and the team went on to score another good win. Durga scored a great goal, Irish and James Shannon scored the other two. Irish, Chris Vidovic, Doug Agar and Promise all played very well.

Senior Men v St.Pats lost 3-4
This was great game with lots of goals but unfortunately the seniors did not get the points. Matt Townsend played very well and scored two goals. Mitch Ryan scored the other. Lewis Parrett, Jon Cochrane and James Eggleston were best for Spurs.
