Top day at Wangaratta
Wangaratta City FC turned on great weather for last Sunday games. The hospitality of WCFC was terrific and their canteen almost matches the famous Hotspurs canteen in quality. The club had mixed results with some wins some draws and some losses. The sixteen boys, fourteen girls and reserve men all had good wins but the highlight was the Senior Women who scored their first win of the year with an outstanding performance.

A huge thankyou to Liz Ennis (Ryan Kemp’s mum – U10’s Black), who was kind enough to donate our Mini Spurs with Red frogs for the Mini Roos season. It’s a wonder how those Red Frogs give the kids that little burst of ‘energy’ to keep going!
Also Albury Hotspurs are on Set up and Canteen duty this Saturday. We will need volunteers for setting up of the fields from 11:45am and also help with serving at the BBQ. U12s v Wangaratta drew 1-1
The score certainly reflected the game which was played with great determination and sportsmanship by both teams.
Wang started better than us but we soon kicked into gear and forced a lot of pressure on them.
Their goal came from an error of ours and ours came from our good play and Cody’s craftiness who was fouled in the box then Thomoki converted the penalty with great authority!
Excellent TEAM effort by all players and a well deserved point.
NO TRAINING this Wednesday 18 May due to over half the team away on school camp.
Under 12 girls v Wangaratta drew 0-0
A great game for the girls who just couldn’t score!! Lily was absolutely awesome in goals. Our defenders were strong. MAttea had a fantastic game in midfield and played hard with Alex holding position on the wing, Ruby and Tahlia were great up front. Olivia and Georgia ran hard and Lil did an awesome job on the field. Well Done girls, great team work. Thanks to Jack/Leo who ran the line.
Under 14 girls won 3-0
A slow start for the girls who have not played in a few weeks. Our defenders were strong lead by Laura and supported by Yasmin, Grace and Kate. Sarsha lead the girls in the midfield. A great first goal by Brooke with Alesha and Sarsha also finishing goals. Ciara was awesome on the wing and played hard with Mim on the other wing. A huge Thankyou to the Under 12s for providing support and to Lily G who backed up and played goals again an awesome effort with a clean sheet for the day. Well Done keep working together. Thanks to Craig and Yasmins Dad for running the line.
Under 16s v Wangaratta won 7-0
A highly effective Hotspurs outfit set the tone of this match within the first five minutes with two quick goals, went on to score once more before half-time, and then another four more times in the second half. It was an efficient performance that ensured most of the play was in the Hotspurs forward half. Credit to the back line for their stalwart defence. This is the third game in a row for which the team has kept a clean sheet. Well done to Luke for a hat-trick of goals and to Felix, Bryce, Zac and Ben for singles.
O35s v Wangaratta Lost 1-6
The Over 35s played their game on Saturday afternoon due to the upgrade of the Wangaratta 3 rd pitch.
We started well with lots of talking and ball to feet and were 1-0 up within the first 10 mins. Wangaratta gradually worked their way back into the game and we went to the break 1-3 down. We lost our technique & structure in patches during the game and although we had some decent passages of play and several good chances to score in each half, our shots went wide and we weren’t able to bring the deficit a little closer together and make the final score a bit more respectable.
A big thank you to Eddie for stepping up to play keeper for the match.
Reserve Ladies postponed game v United lost 2-4
On a very wet and cold Mothers Day, the mighty reserve ladies turned up at Jelbart park to play. In very tough conditions and on an extremely heavy pitch the ball was very hard to move. The ladies got off to a great start with a great assist from Carissa to put Amy through to score. We went into the half with a 2 to 1 lead but unfortunately we could not hang on. A mighty team effort from all the girls who played and special thanks to all the seniors who came and helped out. Special Mention to Jim Parrett for providing shelter for our bench and to Anna who ran the line and to the senior girls who cheered us on, Thanks heaps. Lets keep working together girls and the results will come.
Reserve Ladies Lost 2-1
A tough battle for the girls who started so well, we just need to work on playing out a full game for 2 halves. Our defenders were solid and our midfield moved the ball well. They broke twice and scored. Amy was great up front with Claire and Carissa moving the ball well, Gios never gives up on her wing and ran hard all day, our subs were great with Sophie, Kaels and Em providing fresh legs. Keep the heads up girls the results will come as we work together as a team. Thanks again to Craig who ran the line again!!
Reserves Men v Wangaratta won 1-0
A terrific win by the Ressies after some below par performances. Great to see the team keep a clean sheet. The defence of Brad, Alex, Ranga,Doug, Ethan and Joe were very good. Zac Brodie had a top game as defensive mid and Chris Vidovic continued his excellent form. Durga scored the winning goal. Well done team.
Senior Men v Wangaratta lost 5-3
The seniors were disappointed not to get something from this game. The team dominated much of the game but did not take chances while our opponents were ruthless in converting their chances. Lewis Parrett and Ryan Smith had excellent games. Mick Corkett and Jon Cochrane also played well for the Spurs.
