Match Reports
Under 11’s V United
Under 12’s V Albury City Strikers Won 5 – 0
A very cold evening with all boys playing well. Scott was strong once again in goals, Manny, Felix and Harry were solid in defense. The midfield were strong in controlling the centre of the park and managed to feed the ball through to the forwards.
Goals Tom C 2, Connor 1, Burkeley 1, and Alec 1.
Best on the park were Felix, Tom C and Harry.
Under 12’s V United Draw 3 – 3
On a very cold Sunday morning the boys took the park. In the second minute of the ball crossed to Tim who played it back towards the goal for Tom C who almost scored. In the 4th minute Felix passed the ball to Alec in the midfield who passed it to Connor who played a through ball to Tom C who put the ball in the back of the net. A couple of strong attacks came from the United team who managed to put away a couple of nice goals as well as a controversial penalty. The boys rallied in the second half. The ball came to Willson who put it through for Connor who scored our second goal and our third came when Baxter did a lovely pass back to Alec who controlled the ball and put it into the back of the net. The United team put in a determined to try and take the lead again. We had superman on the goal line in the disguise of Willson. In what seemed like a certain goal Willson “flew” up to the ball and headed it off the line to deny United a goal. Aidan played well on the wing and was denied by the United keeper on several occasions. Manny, Memphis, Miles and Harry were strong in defense and Felix played well.
Goals Tom C 1, Connor 1, and Alec 1
Best on park were Alec, Burkeley, Willson and Aidan.
Under 12’s Girls V United Won 3 – 2
Wow, wow, wow!!! What a game from the Under 12 girls who are producing some absolutely amazing football together!! It was so impressive to watch and all the girls have shown so such improvement from the start, Sarsha, Justine, Maggie, Laura, Bella and Alesha all had good games, with Lilly, Erica, Ciara, Zara, and Bella G providing great support, a fantastic team effort, watch out finals here come the Under 12 spurs girls!!!
Under 13’s V United Won 3 – 0
Things got off to a superman effort with a goal from Zac on the 3 minute mark. Ollie then scored 10 minutes later and things were looking great for Hotspurs. However most of the first half was spent at the wrong end of the park and Hotspurs had to dig deep with some strong superman like defense. The second half started with more enthusiasm resulting in some good attempts at goal. Persistence paid off for Zac scoring his 2nd goal. As per first half a lot of the game was spent in the Hotspurs half but the defensive line did not buckle and kept United goalless. Special mention goes to our superman goalie Ray who worked hard all day. Well done spurs, great defensive work from all players!!
Under 14’s Girls V United Lost 0 – 10
Under 16’s V United Lost 1 – 4
Under 17’s Girls V United Lost 1 – 8
Third’s V United Won 2 – 1
Thirds recorded a fine victory over a strong United side with probably the best half of football we have put together all season. First half wasn’t long underway before we fell behind to a soft goal, but the reaction of the team was to dig deep and we clawed our way back into the contest, but couldn’t find the killer touch in the first half. The attitude in the second half was excellent and we started playing a more up tempo game moving the ball quickly into attacking areas. Indra Poudel had a excellent game not giving up on anything and reaped the reward when he drifted past two defenders before slotting the ball into the top corner. This lifted the whole team and within a few minutes we were ahead a lovely through ball finding Sam Thornman who held off two defenders before slotting the ball under the advancing keeper. Midfield was full of running and fight with Zac and Rachel doing a mountain of chasing and closing. The defence lead by Sean held firm with Ben Pearce and Ram making some timely tackles and when the did get through Joel was on hand to deny United. Great attitude also from the boys on the bench, my apologies for not getting some of you back on.
Over 35’s V United Lost 0 – 3
Well we didn’t need Superman this week but he would have helped as we began with only 10 men against 11 for the beginning of the game and then found it hard in the home stretch to match it with a team who had 2 subs. A great first half effort saw a pretty even contest with chances going both ways and a resolute defence, no kryptonite here guys. The second half continued in the same style until a couple of wayward clearances went to the opposition who then scored. Greg went out with a broken rib and 7 minutes to go, the resulting numbers superiority lead to their third. A lot of good from this game but with a squad of 19 we are starting to struggle to make a team. Let’s hope no more injuries.
Reserve Women V United Lost 1 – 6
A tough game for an under manned side with only 8 players it was a very hard ask to play the top of the table team but the girls got off to an absolute flyer with Beth scoring the first goal of the game and her first ever goal, from half way!!! AMAZING……The girls battled well and were 1 all at half time, but we ran out of puff. Thanks to all the girls for their efforts each week as 7 of us went on to play snr ladies straight after. Keep up the great team spirit, I’m proud of you all!!!
Reserves V United Lost 0 – 5
After starting well the reserves fell away in the game. Unfortunately our opposition capitalised on errors and the Spurs couldn’t finish their chances. Jon Corkett in goals, John Belgre , James Patton and Will Clifton were our best players.
Ladies V United Lost 0 – 8
Seniors V United Lost 0 – 1
This was a game where the Spurs deserved to get some reward. Down one goal at halftime the seniors really played well in the second half but could not finish off their work. A number of close calls frustrated supporters with the final straw being a shot on goal rebounding off the inside of the post back into play. Ryan Giles, Chris Maher, Alex Eggleston and Drummo in goals were best in a strong team effort
