Under 7’s Hotspurs Hot to go , Under 7’s Spursettes, Under 7’s SpursiesWell done to the three under 7s teams on three wins (not that we were keeping score). From what I saw both the Hot to go and Spursies played strong games. This week I coached the Spursettes who played a fantastic game. Well done to Emily who received the encouragement award this week, Elisha showed off her skills with some terrific runs and Seanna did some fantastic intercepts.

Check out Caitlin’s soccer ball imprint after putting her body on the line to stop the opposition.
Another very good performer from all our players. Ava’s throw-ins were outstanding, sending us quickly into attack. Our transition from defence to attack is causing our opponents no end of trouble. Slick passing and movement, steely tackles and great determination is a hallmark of our play.
Yes we make errors and sometimes it cost us dearly but we are learning and improving every game.
Well done team. #GoSpurs

Another super effort from our U12s who have played some very good team football over the last few weeks. From the beginning our passing game and great talk was on display with Josh and Marcus featuring early bringing the ball out of defence and down the right wing where Wendell, Connor and Kye combined brilliantly with great forward play (and a goal assist each) and we were three goals up very early into the game. Harry and Sarsha were very strong in defence and together with Marcus stopped Myrtleford from getting forward and Will our goal keeper from getting a touch. Scott played very well in the midfield jockeying perfectly and making several great passes and a header to bring the ball to feet. We started then to get the ball out on the left with Sarsha bringing the ball out with Riley displaying fantastic skill and team work combining with Jaspa going forward who delivered many great balls and almost scored himself. Our players mixed it up with brilliant passing, overlapping, thru balls down the middle and equally terrific balls out wide with several players making perfectly timed runs and delivering crosses into the box from both the left and right. By the 20 minute mark we were 5 – 0 up. Wendell also had another cracking shot stopped by their GK who was being kept very busy. Our second half started similar to our first with our team combining well before getting the ball forward to Jaspa who beat a player on the left before crossing to Connor who scored. Sam and Toby were now down back with Harry and defended well with Toby getting a thru ball to Wendell who made a long run into the box and with a great finish scored our seventh. Myrtleford got forward for a while with a free kick hitting our wall (top job) and a corner going unrewarded with Will continuing to keep them out with his skill, agility and determination. Sam showed his awareness with a top back pass that lead to a switch play to Scott who then delivered a top ball to Riley. Tyrese played well in the second half, getting involved and winning the ball, passing the ball to team mates and being creative. Harry made several brilliant covering runs stopping their attacks including a strong run out of defence followed by a beautiful ball down the line to Jaspa. Kye then stole the ball from a savoy goal kick before crossing to Josh who with a top finish scored our eighth. After another free kick and corner for Myrtleford we went forward again with a great run from Sarsha who almost scored before Naresh gathered the ball and did a top job to get it to Jaspa who with a great finish scored our ninth goal. Harry played very well all game running down their attacks before clearing the ball. One of these he passed to Josh who nailed a fantastic thru ball to Kye who ran on and scored our 10th. Scott then did a beautiful trap and turn before passing. Jaspa was then involved again winning the ball with 2nd and 3rd efforts before getting the ball thru to Kye who ran on to kick the teams 11th. The game ended with a great corner from Josh however the referee blew his whistle with the ball in flight and before Sarsha slotted what would have been her first goal and the teams 12th. Good try Sarsha, almost. Top team effort very well done and a special mention to our captains Connor and Harry who are growing into this important role and displaying great leadership through their efforts and behaviour both on and off the field. And a big thanx from all of us to Coach Roy and Team Manager Diahann
Goals – Kye 5, Connor 3, Wendell 1, Josh 1, and Jaspa 1.
Awards – Tyrese, Jaspa and Sarsha.

Under 13’s V Myrtleford Won 4 – 2
A very fast game against a very tall opposition. Great goal keeping by Scott and our back line was solid in defence especially Manny and Bryce. Lovely playing to feet. Good passages of play between Felix and Kye and team play that resulted in several goals. Kye passed to Josh who passed to Baghat then to Connor who scored and then Kye to Josh to Connor who scored again. Felix was unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions. Marcus and Josh played well all game. Great result boys.
Goals: Connor 4
Best on Ground: Josh, Marcus and Connor.
Under 14’s V Myrtleford Lost 1 – 5
What was always going to be a tough game for the boys got even tougher when Myrtleford scored a goal in the opening minutes. After the boys settled there was some really good attacking play Spurs unlucky not to equalise with Oliver and Mitchell nearly scoring. Ray then stopped Myrtleford scoring on three occasions with some brave saves. The backline was performing well under a lot of pressure with Anna and Charters leading the way and Jack also working hard. Myrtleford scored a second goal late in the second half. Spurs started the second half well when Zac scored from a penalty to make the score 2-1. Another strong save from Ray was then followed by Myrtleford’s 3rd, 4th and 5th goals.
Under 14’s Girls V Myrtleford Won 2 – 0
It was a stunning afternoon in Myrtleford, the fog had lifted and the players were greeted by sunshine aplenty, we had a small band of players once again bolstered by the presence of our band of Under 12’s who continue to play up and help us out each week and we lost one of them before the game in a wrist injury to Alesha, hope it comes good soon Leshy. It didn’t take the Spurs girls long to settle into their task with a typical shot on goal by Anna which went soundly into the back of the net after some very good lead up work by Mary and Hannah, our second goal also came from Anna’s boot after some good work by Mercy and Bella G, we went into the sheds at halftime leading 2nil in thanks to some excellent work at the back and 2 very good saves by Shelby in goals. The second half saw a switch in players in goals with Shelby coming onto the ground and Anna going into goals, there were some very good scoring opportunities in the second half but alas the goals didn’t come so we had a final score of 2 nil to the girls, it was a good away win and keeps us in the hunt for a top four finish. We play Diamonds Red next week who are one place above us in fourth so let’s all get to training this week. Our forward line of Mary and Hannah never stopped and played well all day, our midfield are really starting to hit their straps with, Mercy, Stephanie and Yasmin continuing to improve with every game and Lilly also showing excellent play, as did Shelby and Anna in their respective halves. Our ever reliable backline also had a fantastic day in not letting the opposition have many opportunities in front of our goals, with Isabella controlling the left and Sammy and Bella G so excellent in the centre and an outstanding game by Sarsha on the left. A huge thank you to Jim Brodie for coaching today and to the Godfrey’s for making a special trip with Bella to help us out.
Under 16’s V Myrtleford Lost 2 – 6
Under 17’s Girls V Myrtleford Lost 0 – 4
In a game that could have been, the score line was not a very good indication of the way the game was contested, some messy scrambles in the goal square led to some lucky goals for Myrtleford. The girls were very undermanned for this contest with players away etc and Nicole on the sideline with an injured ankle filling in for Roy as coach so he could be with his sick father, we all wish Pop the best Roy. A number of the 14 girls helped out by going straight into the next game for the 17’s, we need to remember that sometimes the best form of defence is attack and to have the two best goal scorers in the backline in Emma and Anna was a tactical move that didn’t work today. All girls worked very hard and never stopped trying and the go forward was good they just couldn’t bag that elusive goal to get them back into the game. Next week versus Diamonds so get to training this week so we can work on a game plan.
Third’s V Myrtleford Won 1 – 0
A really good team performance by the thirds. The defence of Caleb in goals John B, Indra, Sajit and Karl was outstanding. A terrific goal by Bien after a great cross from Felix late in the second half was the decider. Well done team.

A fantastic hatrick by Milky(Jerry) in his first game of the year was a highlight of a solid performance by the Ressies. Great to see Brayden and Ravi making sound contributions to the team. Middi and Tuksar were good at the back and Mickett, Viders and Irish were excellent in midfield. Dhan and Santi also did well up front.
Ladies V Myrtleford Lost 0 – 2
Congratulations to all girls, a massive improvement from our first game against Myrte. The girls looked strong and composed themselves and their structure to keep the scoreline to one goal each half. We worked incredibly well as a team, using solid passing to gain possession. Well done to all, specifically Bec Snow who was again fantastic in goals.
Seniors V Myrtleford Won 2 – 0
The Seniors showed what they can really do when they get it right. Early goals to Matt Townsend and Sam Thorman (his first senior goal) got the team off to the right start. Ryan Giles, Paul Kinning and James Eggy then dominated mid field to secure a great win for the seniors. The defence of John Irvine (yes- Buttsy) Mark B, Alex Egg, John cock and Westy were all outstanding. Sam and Tyson worked hard up front. An excellent team performance.
