Under 10 Hotspurs Gold vs Diamonds
A 10am kick-off in Wodonga and a larger field with full-sized goals against a good team was our challenge and with just nine players, no subs, we showed how far we have come as a team this year.
Diamonds were three goals up in the first half but in general play we looked a better side but conceded on the counter. We got on the score sheet just before half-time when Brodie smashed home from close range after some good team play and a great cross from Dawson.
The second half was all Spurs, running out winners 6-5 with Dawson scoring the winning goal with just a minute to play. Reese got on the score sheet after two years since his last goal, bursting forward from his career defensive position to scramble the ball over the line. Tomoki took the coach’s advice at half-time and calmly passed the ball in the corner of the large goal from 15 metres. Jonathan took a free kick that was stopped by the wall but that didn’t deter him as he followed up with determination to reclaim the ball and bang it home in the side netting. Brodie got his second goal after being put through, he ran on to clinically slot the goal into corner giving the keeper no chance. Jay was outstanding in midfield and defence, showing great composure and awareness with his possession and passing. Rupert displayed his usual tenacity winning many balls for the good of the team. Caitlin worked hard as did Ava who showed the opposition how to throw the ball in correctly.
Great team effort #Tekkers #GoSpurs
Under 11’s V St Pats Lost 0 – 7
An outstanding first half against the ladder leaders saw our boy’s go to the break 0 – 1 down. We had our opportunities to score a few times but just couldn’t quite pull it off. Habber had a busy day in goal but rose to the challenge with some amazing saves. Christian was once again a force in defence. A good effort by the whole team! Bring on the finals!
Under 12’s V St Pats Won 5 – 1
Under 12’s Girls V St Pats BYE
Under 13’s V St Pats Won 4 – 2
A very even match with both teams having chances to score. We were lucky to score first from a Felix cross to Gerizim who beat the keeper to score. Our second came from a Harry pass through to Jaspa who scored. Manny was very dependable as always in the backs and Baghat was unlucky not to score. Our next goal came from a corner kick by Felix to find Connor’s head and finally a square cross by Jaspa to Connor who put the ball into the net to bag our fourth goal. Good passing to feet and communicating by all players. Well done.
Goals: Gerizim 1, Jaspa 1, Connor 2
Coach’s Awards: Jaspa, Connor and Manny.

Under 14’s Girls V Albury City Lost 0 – 6
A glorious sunny day greeted us at Jelbart Park last Sunday to play Albury City who sit atop of the girls points table. The score line was not a true indication of the match as the girls had a tremendous first half and went to oranges at only 0-1. We had ample opportunities to get a few on them also as we had the ball in their defensive quarter on many occasions in the first half, however their speedy backline managed to shut us down and it was obvious that we were lacking some pace up front (where were you Hannah?).
The second half proved to be a bridge too far, City scored 2 very good crafted goals and 3 very fluky goals to run out winners. However after last week’s poor showing against Wangaratta this week’s effort was very pleasing even though a loss, we had chances just needed a few more troops. Once again it gets to the time of the year that we struggle for numbers, our 14’s squad has been reduced to 9 due to season ending injuries for 2 players, we rely every week on 6 very special and dedicated girls from the 12’s squad to help us out, we need some of the older girls to show similar dedication to the black and gold strip they are representing, their team mates and their families, lets finish off the year with a dedicated flourish.
McDonalds Achievement Awards this week go to Samantha Mackinnon for an excellent display at defensive midfield and Mary Balassopoulos for a great game and never stopped trying.
Blockbuster Achievement Awards this week go to Yasmin Linssen for a fantastic effort in the backline, full of running and some very good clearing licks when we were in trouble, the other award goes to Anna Parrett for a superb job in goals in the first half and the midfield in the second half.
Lets all get to training on Thursday and gear up for another good effort against St Pats at home on Sunday
Under 14’s Girls V St Pats Lost 0 – 3
Under 16’s V St Pats Lost 1 – 4
Under 17’s Girls V St Pats Won 3 – 2
Third’s V St Pats Draw 1 – 1
Another good performance from the Thirds are currently playing very well. The team was missing some key players but Lewis, Caleb and Heathy who filled in from the under 16’s all did a great job for the team. Indra scored a spectacular goal to give Spurs a draw against a team that defeated us last round. This was was the final game for our German import Felix Multize who has finished his exchange time in Australia. Felix really enjoyed playing for Spurs and scored somegreat goals for the thirds. We gave Felix a Hotspurs playing shirt to take home with him. Best wishes Felix.
Over 35’s V St Pats Won 1 – 0
A great result against one of our bogey sides who sit 2nd on the ladder.
We were fortunate to get the basic 11 on the field with many of our players unavailable & a few turning up carrying injuries. We decided to start where we left off last week with our strategy to control the midfield & put pressure on theirs. Everything we did just seemed to work for us with the defence playing brilliantly to keep the opposition at bay with sensible & safe football, the midfield holding & passing & the attackers causing a great deal of mayhem up front to keep the St Pats goalie on his toes. We broke through their defence again right on half time to secure a 1-0 lead.
An injury to one of our midfielders early in the second half (who tried courageously to remain on the pitch for another 5 – 10 minutes) reduced us to 10 on the field. We then had to lift our work rate to contained & repel their attack which we succeeded in doing for the remaining 20 or so minutes.
A hard-earned win where every man stood up & played well above what was called for.
Reserve Women V St Pats Won 1 – 0
A hard fought battle from the reserve ladies with a full squad of 16 the girls started strong and were passing the ball around well. We created many chances and again held all the possession. Great games were had by Carissa and Gios in midfield and really good to have Jess back up front. Snowy Megan and KT all backed up from seniors and did really well, Thanks girls!! The defence again were strong and Jules pulled off an amazing save to keep a clean sheet. Keep working hard girls, A really good team effort!! Enjoy the week off.
Reserves V St Pats Won 3 – 2
The reserves won again but it was a bit of a struggle. Goals from Milky, Corkett and Irish got the team home. Thanks to Chris Maher for filling in as goalkeeper and making some top saves. Tuksar, Zac Brodie, Santi and Viders were the best for Spurs
Ladies V St Pats Lost 0 – 1
Seniors V St Pats Won 2 – 0
The seniors secured a finals birth with a win last Sunday. It was not our best performance but a win is a win. Tyson Mason and SamThorman scored in the second half to grab a win after a scoreless first session. James Eggleston, Jon Cochrane, Paul Kinning and Sam Thorman were the best for Hotspurs.
