Match Reports
11 Girls v Wangaratta won 9 – 0
The undefeated U11 girls headed into their 3rd match with confidence and determination. The tightly contested first half saw all the girls put up a great defensive effort across the park. Two (2) great strikes from Tahlia and Sophie had the girls go into the break 2-0 up.
In the 2nd half the girls controlled and moved the ball around more, creating opportunities in attack with Alice, Bella, Daisy, Ruby and Tahlia taking advantage and scoring some great goals.
The team were strong all across the park as the 9-0 final scoreline suggests, with special mention to Mya and Zali in defence, Alice, Elisha and Ruby in midfield and Bella, Daisy and Tahlia in attack. Special mention also to Bella and Sophie who shared goal keeping duties, and keeping a clean sheet.
Well done to all the team – another great effort.
11 Boys v Wangaratta drew 1 – 1
It was a great game on Sunday and it was the first time we have been tested all year. We knew the opposition would be strong and it was no surprise that both teams struggled to have any real shots at goal. The match was played with gutsy determination from all our players and was very exciting ( and nerve wracking ) for the crowd to watch.
A positive was how the defence worked together under pressure and seeing all our players gel as a team. A negative was the throw ins .
In the interview with the coach after the game Mia was happy with how the game went .She wanted to make a special mention that “Tyreese played a great game and is gaining confidence and improving each week .Lenny, Mitch and Coops worked tirelessly all game and all had some moments of great play . Don’t worry , we will get them next time “.
13 Boys v Wangaratta lost 1 – 4
We had no answer for the speed of two of their players, one who stopped every attack we attempted and the other who caused our defences no end of trouble.
Rupert, Jonathon, Ethan, Cody and Ava had battled tirelessly in defence.
13 Girls v Wangaratta won 3 – 1
What a great game for our Under 13 girls. This was only the second game the girls played together. The girls passed the ball well and our defenders were super solid lead by Keely in the defence. Lily was awesome in goals and pulled off some great saves. Salli scored her first ever goal which was very exciting and then scored another in the second half after a nice assist from Ava. Ruby showed great skill and also scored a nice goal. A super team effort all round from all the girls and the more we play the better we will get. A huge thankyou to the 11s who stayed around and played. Also to Robert for running the line!! Keep the great work up girls.
16 Girls v Wangaratta lost 4 – 2
A tough game for the girls who started strongly and were 2 nil up. Unfortunately we ran out of legs as we had no subs on the bench and for some of the girls it was their third game of the day which is an awesome effort on such a hot afternoon but they didnt give up and showed great team work and courage to play out the game no matter what. Again the more we play together the better we will get, keep working for each other girls and the results will follow!!
A huge thanks to the 13 girls who played and to Leo/Jack for running the line!!
16 Boys v Wangaratta drew 2 – 2
Well a draw is better than a loss. It was a very physical game that at times was downright dirty, our boys kept their heads and continued to play soccer. We need to remember to listen to the coach and not jump in on tackles and more talk/info to our team mates, this stops rushed passes and easy balls being taken off us. 1 goal to Jack and 1 goal to Manny.
I would also like to thank people who run the line, as they say “many hands ……….”
Thirds v Wangaratta won 3 – 1
The Thirds struggled to find their rhythm in this game with some players away and plenty of position changes, though they still managed a win. They started well with two shots on goal within the first few minutes – Indra’s was right on target. Wangaratta equalised and then Jim scored before half-time. Coach Ian let the team know just what he thought of their efforts but, despite that, in the second half Wangaratta secured themseves a penalty shot, which never made it past a fired-up Joel. Later Denzel found the back of the net and the team won 3-1. There were plenty of shots on goal by both teams and some great passages of play.
Reserve Men v Wangaratta lost 2 – 5
This was a game of two halves. The reserves were very poor early in this game and were down 5-0 at halftime. A much better second half showed what the team can do when they put their mind on the job. Ash and Dinesh were the goalscorers. Dinesh hit both the post and crossbar in the second half. Best players were Subash, Ash, Dinesh and Richo.
Senior Ladies v Wangaratta lost 4 – 2
An amazing team effort was made with a disappointing result. The girls started the game strong with Sarsha scoring off her own corner kick and the team passing the ball beautifully. Wang got 2 back which again Sarsha responded with another goal off a corner. Some extremely controversial refereeing followed and as a result Wangaratta snagged two more goals from offside positions.
The girls didn’t back down, the second half Spurs ran rampant on the Wang defence, creating some great play and putting immense pressure on the keeper. It was not to be though with some rough play holding us back and Jamie being served some cheese luckily without the sauce. Sadly the girls just couldn’t find the net.
An incredible team effort today managing to channel our frustrations into our play – keep on working and the results will surely come.
Senior Men v Wangaratta lost 0 – 6
The seniors struck a very good opponent. The team to their credit never gave up and played some reasonable football. John Cochrane was outstanding in the backline. Ranga, Lewis, Sam and Ben Gardiner also had strong games.
