LARAMEE LUDERS FOUNDATION CUP SUCCESS
Last Sunday was a great day for Hotspurs with the Senior Men defeating Melrose to win back the foundation cup. Bill Luders had travelled from Canberra to be in attendance and he was thrilled to witness a great effort from our young team.
To top the day off our Senior Women also had a big win.

11 Girls Hotspurs v Wangaratta lost 1 – 2
Another great game from the girls, again demonstrating skills and teamwork beyond their years.
The first half was tightly contested, with the girls dominating possession in the opposition half thanks to the team’s solid defence. The girls passed the ball around well and found spaces down the wings. A couple of great shots on goal from Ashleigh, Mya, Ruby & Sophie saw the opposition goalie make some great saves. Despite the dominant display and great defensive efforts, the opposition’s one chance came from a break and led to a goal late in the half.
The second half saw the Spurs continuing to move the ball well and dominate possession. Ashleigh, Ruby and Tahlia looked menacing with the ball resulting in a number of great shots on goal. Against the run of play the opposition scored their second goal from a break. Ashleigh then scored a great individual goal from a break starting near the halfway. Ashleigh’s goal seemed to spur the team on, and the girls pressed hard for a late equaliser.
Despite the enthusiastic home crowd and some great efforts/shots on goal from Alex, Ashleigh, Bella, Daisy and Eloise, the girls came close to but were unable to equalise.
Next time Spurs.
The team were again strong all across the park, particularly in defence with the opposition held at halfway for the majority of the match. Special mention and awards go to Alex and Seanna, who both seemed to just ‘pop up’ in defence and midfield, and diffuse any opposition advances.

Well done to all the girls – another great effort from the Team.
11 Boys Hotspurs v Melrose 5 – 2
Great game from our U11s on a cold wintery Sunday .
Cooper scored 2 goals off his right boot and could of scored a 3rd except for that”offside”rule . Aydan also got back on the score board after some great play .
Our defenders were awesome again with numerous turnovers – Sam was involved in some great passages of play , and is so versatile to have on the team sharing the goal keeping duties.
Mitch was running and making the play on the wing and demonstrating good form .Ben was giving 100% with some great corners and crosses into the goal square and Nathan showed gutsy determination in the midfield .
Lenny also wants it known he kicked his first goal for the year and thinks he should be moved into centre midfield more often.
The coaches were pretty happy with the effort from everyone today , it was a great team performance and everybody should be proud . Well done!
Awards went to Haydos -his effort was terrific and did everything the coach asked him to do , Tyreese – who was moving the ball well out of defence and Aydan who had another great game.
Hopefully the weather improves to get some training in this week.
13 Boys v Melrose lost 6 – 2
Melrose doninated us in the first half and their shooting was precise and lead 5 nil at half time. A better second half performance and a couple of goals for us and only one more for them.
Thanks to Lilly for helping out playing a full game in goals for us, hope you enjoyed the challenge, well played. Thanks also to Jack.
Ava, Dawson, Reese and Lilly had good ganes for the team.
Thirds v Melrose won 4 – 0
The Thirds played one of their best games for the year to run out 4-0 winners just before the wet weather. It was a tighter contest than the score shows, with the opposition controlling a significant proportion of the play. Under Sixteens player Jacob, in his first run with the Thirds, scored the first goal of the match within a couple of minutes of taking to the field. Indra scored the second in a one-two with Oliver and the team went to half-time 2-0 up. In the second half Oliver scored a goal after some slick passing between several players and then Jim scrabbled the ball into the net later after Indra’s free kick hit the crossbar. The backline stood firm and Zac’s wide play was superlative. Scott replaced Joel as keeper for the final ten minutes and was immediately put to the test a number of times. Thanks to Manny and Josh of the Under Sixteens and to Mitch and Ben for running the lines.
Over 35s v Melrose lost 0 – 2
Well, we can’t seem to take a trick at the moment! We played all over the opposition in the first half with them somehow scoring against the run of play close to the break. Back on the field & again we were in total control for the majority of the 2nd half but we somehow managed to let them back in the game, & a cracking shot from inside our box finished us off. The team played some wonderful football today in trying conditions. The amount of chances we created was pleasing but we are finding it increasingly frustrating that we cannot finish our moves off.
Reserve Men v Melrose drew 3 – 3
The Reserves continued their good recent form. This team is playing very consistently and very much as a team. The Spurs led three times and could have been unlucky not to get a win. Milky, Chandra and Doug (yes Doug !) all scored good goals. The defence was really strong led by Ash, Majhi, Sam and Doug. Subash and Zac Brodie were terrific in the midfield. Dinesh, Chandra and Arjun were standouts in the forward line.
Senior Ladies v Melrose won 6 – 1
What a result! The girls played incredibly well, backing up their great win from last week with another 6-1 triumph. The team is getting stronger each week with some beautiful passing and encouraging support for each other. Goals were spread throughout the team with 3 each half. A fantastic result we should all be proud of! Special mention to Kelly, Claire and Neesh for manning the BBQ while we played, and also to the solid bunch of girls who not only helped with set up AND pack up but also the canteen/BBQ throughout the day.
Senior Men v Melrose won 3 – 0 (Laramee/Luders Cup)
The Senior Men were excellent on Sunday. The team battled really hard to stop their opponents. Sam Thorman scored two opportunistic goals to give Spurs a halftime lead. The defence led by Harry, Tony and Paul were outstanding and the midfield of Lewis and Jono did a great job. Matt Townsend scored the third goal and the LL Cup was back with the Spurs!
It’s not often a rainbow shines on a referee!
