Match Reports
11 Girls v Albury United drew 2 – 2
The girls were without 5 of the team due to representative duties and holidays, but that didnt stop the team putting on a great show. The first half saw Spurs dominate possession with the ball only reaching Poppy our keeper once. However united defended well and kept it to nil all at the break.
Eventually the defence started to crack and we manged to slot a couple of nice goals which were finished by Poppy and Seanna. However United caught us twice on quick breaks and managed to score 2 to make it a 2 all draw.
The pleasing part of the game was how well the team passed the ball around, going wide and down the line and getting plenty of great crosses in. We just needed a bit more hunger in front of goals to finish off the great play.
Sophie and Poppy had great games both on the field and in goals. Elisha was unlucky not to put a couple of goals away with some powerful strikes while while Isla, Zali and Eloise all did some great work down the wings.
Great effort by all.
12 Boys v Albury United won 5 – 1
With a number of players away this weekend and a 4-0 lost the week before, the U-12 where keen to pull together and get a good result.
Max McCormack was captain for the day and let the team by example, by being first to the ball and communicating well with other defenders to keep the defence in line. Lenny produced some outstanding saves (well beyond his years) that kept the score at 0-0 in the first 10 mins.
The U-12 then got into there stride with 2 goals in quick succession. Both goals came from excellent work by the defenders getting the balls out the wings. From the wings early crosses into the box (Cody and Jesse) resulted in sharp finishing by Jack who was in the right place and finished well. A great individual goal by Ryan added a third, while Mitch’s goal before half time, made it 4 and an easy half time team talk.

In the second half a well taken finished from Cody into the top corner was executed to perfection (unlike his goal celebration which needs more work). Every player on the day contribute to a well deserved 5-1 win and more of these performances in the next few weeks, and Irish can retire.
13 Boys v United (lost first half 0 – 3, won second half 4 – 0) won 4 – 3
Pathetic first half, no urgency, no intensity, no leaders, no desire. We went down 3 to nil by half time having let united dominate by not showing any fight what so ever.
Half time came and Manager and Coach had some stern words for the kids to hear. Show some character and fight for possession, work hard for your self and the team it’s not going to be handed to you. If you want to win games, you will have to earn it!
We made a few positional changes and the team come out in the second half all guns blazing. The whole team worked hard and got the rewards by scoring 4 second half goals and winning the match 4 – 3. A great effort after being 3 down. Imagine if we played the whole game with that level of commitment and intensity! That’s what good teams do.
16 Boys v Albury United won 6 – 2
Best game so far this season. The players played together as a team with passes landing at feet and players making great runs and calling for the ball to be put through. Goals go to Jacob S 3, Denzel 2, Leo 1 and Jack 1. Many other players worked hard to help these boys get all these goals. Defence was strong as always with a lot less jumping in on the ball and a bit more second defending. Sunday’s Urban Graze award went to Gerizim who was solid in defence.
Anyone who wants a turn writing the report just let me know.
Thirds v Albury United lost 0 – 1
The Thirds battled away on Sunday morning and attempted to make the most out of a shortage of players, and the game was fierce from the very beginning. Both teams created few chances in the first half as each team put in solid defensive efforts. After the break, however, it was United who created the first major chance, eventuating in a goal line clearance from a shot off the post. Lacklustre efforts from both sides eventually culminated in the only goal of the game being scored midway through the second half by United, and despite attack after attack in the dying minutes, Spurs couldn’t find the equaliser and had to settle for their first loss of the season.
Over 35s v Albury United lost 0 – 4
A tough & quick paced game where we held the opposition at bay for about 15 minutes until the flood gates opened & they scored all 4 of their goals in swift succession up until the break. The majority of these goals came from corners while not marking their big men or being aware of their runners in the box which has been a problem for us recently. A few choice words from the coach & a bit of reflection at half time saw us come out to produce a much better 2nd half to keep them scoreless & we also managed to create a few chances for ourselves to score, but we could not crack their defence.
Reserve Women v Wodonga Diamonds won 1 – 0
Well Diamonds came out strong in the first half with numbers in the midfield and forward line, but we managed to hold them off in the defence. We had some unbelievable chances up front with some missed goals, it seemed that some of the girls didn’t have their weeties that morning so the kicks were missing some oomph!!!
The second half saw a goal from Emily Weavers (a nice left foot) and it fired up the Diamonds forward line with Simone Altass (GK) getting a couple of late knocks. Our defence line continued to display a solid effort and held them off. Simone had a fantastic game in goals with a clean sheet again.
We had some players playing positions that they may not be familiar with but they did a great job and gave it a go, keep up the great work.
Alesha Mackinnon played her heart out in the forward line and never stopped running and trying to score, she was supported well by Emily Weavers, Jade Willis, Natalie O’Neill, Taneesha Smith and our wingers. Alesha was also best on ground for the match as she was determined and never gave up trying.
It was nice to come away with a win against Diamonds as in the past it hasn’t been easy to beat that club. Enjoy the win girls and hope to see you at training Wednesday night so we can continue to grow as a team!
Thank you to Mia Spokes for coaching us and Brendan O’Neill / Justin Wild for running the line, much appreciated!
Reserve Men v United lost 0 – 10
The score shows the Ressies had a bad day. This team is much better than they showed on Sunday and with more determination they can get better results. Ash Hockin and Zac Brodie were the best players on Sunday.
Senior Ladies v Albury United lost 10 – 3
An unfortunate result that definitely did not reflect the game. The girls got off to a slow start conceding 3 quick goals, we managed to find our feet and began to pressure our opposition both defensively and up front, which eventually paid off with Anna scoring from the wing. The girls conceded two more before the half but were looking positive going into the second. Spurs dominated the second half with 70% of the play in our attacking half. We scored two more (Anna and Kieran) and should of had a lot more if we could only find the net. United were able to finish their shots meticulously which resulted in Spurs conceding more than we deserved. A strong second half which we can only use positively for our upcoming games. Well done to Emily Weavers who made some absolutely brilliant saves in goals!
Senior Men v United lost 4 – 6
The spectators got to see an exciting senior game. Spurs were down two goals early but fought back to grab a 3-2 lead. Unfortunately our opponents scored right on halftime and it was 3-3 at the break. Another four goals were scored in the second half in a good display of attacking football. Jerome, Mitch and Sam all scored goals and were amongst our better players. Paul Kinning, Luke Dahl and Harry in goals all did a great job in the backline.
