11 Boys v Albury City won 2 – 1
It was a close and physical game which tested our U11s on the weekend. Albury City managed to get the first goal but Aydan and Ruby both found the net soon after which allowed us to go into halftime 2-1.
Tyreece was awesome in defence and is proving to be so tough and reliable in tight contests .Our defenders, along with our goalies are proving to be a formidable force in the competition .
We had heaps of chances to score in the second half ,but were unfortunately unable to convert . In many situations we are just so close ! Special mention to Zac the City goal keeper, an ex -Spurs mini Roos player whom a lot of our team played with last year , he was awesome !
All players again battled hard and Mitch, Sam and Ryan were on fire, creating many chances.
Half way through the season we find our young Spurs top of the table .Enjoy the weekend off, and let’s stay focused for the second half of the season.
Awards to Tyreece, Mitch, Sam and Ryan.
13 Boys v Albury City lost 1 – 7
Firstly I want to thank Lilly for playing in goals for us the last two weeks, I hope you enjoyed it and learnt a little as you were up against two of the top teams in our grade.
As a team I was very happy with the fight and determination of all our players. However, we are at critical times making poor decisions that either cost us a goal or a chance at scoring. The game plan was to man mark a player through the back and midfield. I don’t think we achieved this especially in midfield with City having more than one player open and free most of the game.
Reminder, long weekend and a bye so we will return to training 22 June 5 to 6pm
Thirds v Albury City lost 0 -4

The match started with sunny conditions, with City having a great deal of height and the full compliment of top age players. The size and physicality of the opposition did not daunt our team, with our defence holding them out until the last 3 minutes of the first half, the difference being a small fast break that cracked through. The second half was played in similar fashion, with our team creating opportunities aplenty but not being able to get past the tall timber that was their defence. In the second half there were three City goals, but the 4 nil scoreline did not show the intensity and competitive game that was played. Great games were had by all.
Over 35s v Albury City lost 5 – 7
Yes, you read the outcome right. What seems like a penalty shootout score was the end result of a very entertaining game. Having been infuriated by the lack of goals that we have scored in previous games we certainly put things right this time around, unfortunately we let the other team score more than us! Our defence was lacklustre in the 1st half with some diabolical attempts to clear the ball resulting in most of the oppositions goals in the opening 20 minutes. In the next 15 minutes we became more confident & after a disallowed goal for Spurs we were able to claw 1 back to go to the break 1-5. After a forced positional change up front due to a few of our squad carrying injuries we came out & played beautiful football in the 2nd half, in fact it was the best we have played for quite some time & all 12 men played their hearts out. We controlled the game to the point that they become alarmed that we would eclipse them, so they then elected to change keepers to try to stem the flow of goals. Disappointingly for us they were able to sneak another 2 into our goals to eventually wrap up the win.
Reserve Ladies v Albury City lost 1 – 0
A tough game this weekend against one of the top teams to beat. The girls did well, especially after two consecutive byes. Keely did an excellent job in midfield, a new position for her. Claire and Nat did some great runs and support work. The whole team made smart passes which contributed to some great plays down the field. Simone made some spectacular saves, keeping the opposition scoreless in the second half. Kendal, Kelly and Tynecia had solid games in defence. A big thank you to Weavers for running the line for us! We had some minor injuries but hopefully with a week off we will be fit for our next game back
Senior Ladies v Albury City lost 0 – 4
#1. The girls put up a valiant effort against the undefeated number one side. Our first half was strong with every player working at their best resulting in us only conceding 1. City came out firing early in the second half with our girls being a little slow off the mark. This resulted in another 2 being conceded- following this we upped our pressure and had a few opportunities to respond unfortunately couldn’t put one away. Our communication and pressure is improving every week, with the team really working for each other.
Special mention to Sarsha and Bella for making the Riverina squad! Congratulations girls.
#2. If you cast your minds back to last season, the Spurs Senior Ladies against City were demolished, with the first goals being scored almost at the first kick off. The matches in 2017 are very different, with our girls improving every week. City will always be a formidable opponent, but they had to work exceptionally hard for the scoreline that was achieved. Superb games by Laura, Bella, Emily, Katie, Anna and Milly, who shut down the attackers, and Jamie, Sasha, Jess (squared) who provided a lot of go forward. Jordan, Sammy, Bec, and Keiren worked their legs off this week. Keep going – the Spurs Sisterhood is no easy beat this year!
Reserve Men v Albury City lost 1 – 3
The Ressies were in this game for a long time. Dinesh scored a great goal to get the lead for Spurs but our opponents gradually got on top in the game. We had chances to score more goals but could not take them. Ray was outstanding in goals. Subash and Zac Brodie were also really good in the defence. Milky and Dinesh were the best of the forwards.
Senior Men V Albury City lost 0 – 2
The senior men did not play as well as they have in recent games. City scored two early goals to put us on the back foot and we struggled to get back in the match. Spurs had plenty of possession in the second half but could not get any score on the board. Best for us were Mick Corkett, Paul Kinning, Harry Quealy and Mitch Anderson.
GOOD LUCK HARRY QUEALY
Best wishes to senior goalkeeper Harry Quealy who is leaving next week to travel in Europe. Harry has had a great season and he will be greatly missed.
