Match Reports
11 Girls v Melrose won 7 – 0
Another fantastic game and team effort from all the girls.
The Spurs dominated possession throughout the match, confidently moving the ball around and finding space down the wings. The Spurs managed to keep the ball (& opposition) in the attacking half for most of the match. There were numerous strikes on goal, resulting in great goals to Ashleigh (hat trick), Elisha, Mya, Seanna and Tahlia.
Again, the girls continue to impress with their skill level and teamwork, and their ever increasing confidence to run with the ball.
Well done to all the girls – another great effort from all the Team. Special mention to Ava and Sophie for being goalie and keeping another clean sheet, and awards to Ashleigh, Isla and Seanna for their impressive contributions during the match.
11 Boys v Cobram lost 1 – 2
The team was outplayed by a very strong and skilled team on Sunday. Cobram scored two goals early and we battled hard for Ryan to score a goal before the half time break. Our team were in the hunt in the second half but found it difficult when going forward.
The team should be proud with their sportsmanship even though disappointed with the first loss for the season.
Awards to Ryan and Mitch giving 100% for the whole match. Aydan and Sam were also worthy recipients of awards, they played well and were in some fantastic contests.
Plenty to look forward to this weekend with matches against Wangaratta and St Pats.
13 Girls v Cobram won 10 – 0
A fantastic game from the Under 13 girls who were almost at full strength on the weekend!!
The girls have improved so much over the season and play really well together, supporting and keeping it positive
out on the field. Keep up the great work girls- awards to Ash, Daisy and Georgia. Well Done girls
13 Boys v Cobram won 5 – 2
This was a great win for the team having lost to Cobram in the previous round at home. The team also included four 12 boys who all contributed to the win, Max G making his debut, Cody as solid as ever and Jack and Fraser who scored a goal each for us. Other scorers were Dawson and Tomoki with 2.
Cobram scored two late goals to come back at us and could have been more except for some desperate defence and great saves by Ian in goals. Having said that, we squandered multiple opportunities two really blow the score out.
Ava was strong at the back and able to relieve the pressure with long clearances and also dangerous by sending us straight into attack with her long throw-ins, one of which we scored from. Rupert was heavily involved all game and it was great to see him back to his best.
Thirds v Cobram lost 0 – 1
The Thirds played a terrific match on Sunday and were unlucky to lose when Cobram managed to kick a goal in the last few minutes of the game when a scoreless draw looked almost inevitable. The team, shored up once again by six of the Sixteens players, played beautifully for the entire match and looked a different side when compared to their previous couple of matches. Goalkeeper Scott had an absolute blinder, consistently deflecting what looked like certain goals to the delight of the spectators. Everyone worked hard all game with the small field meaning many end-to-end plays. The Spurs hit the crossbar once and had many chances but just couldn’t convert. Well done to all.
Reserve Men v Cobram lost 2 – 3
Disappointing to see the Ressies lose after starting so well. The team led 2-0 after 15 minutes and had chances to increase their lead. Our opposition played much better in the second half and grabbed a win. Dinesh and Durga both scored good goals and Ranga, Mick Corkett and Zac Brodie had strong games.
Senior ladies v Cobram won 6 – 3
A very slow start from the girls letting cobram get a quick goal, but we worked hard to fight back to 1-1 at halftime.
Feeling very down on ourselves at the half as this was a must win game, we knuckled down as a team and found the back of the net through some great passing.
Unfortunately Weavers put herself on the line for us resulting in getting sent off, massive thanks goes to Anna for quickly stepping into goals, what a champion!
We battled our way through the last part of the game with ten players with everyone putting in extra to get us over the line!
Huge thanks to the girls that stepped up from ressies, we couldn’t have done it without you guys
Senior Men v Cobram lost 1 – 6
The seniors did not play as well as they can. We had chances early in the game and could not take them and this may have changed the game. The opposition were good at seizing on every error we made. Jerome scored a top goal. Paul Kinning, Luke Dahl and Ash Hockin were best for Spurs.
