There was an own goal scored early but the rest of the match was a fiercely contested battle that could of gone either way ! Wangaratta’s defence has all year rivalled ours in competitiveness and also with a feared player taller than Legs Lenny, but in this case all our defenders and team came out the winners on the day. Mitch and Lenny easily played one of their best games of the year and we must mention our superstar Alistair whom was in magnificent form in goals and was our best player! His mother Jo was a nervous wreck on the sidelines, but Alistair was cool ,calm and collected under pressure and really allowed us to come away with the points .
Two more games left until finals .
Let’s go Spurs !
13 Boys v United won 7 – 2
With a few players missing we again called upon the 12s for their assistance and they all contributed enormously to the team. We got off to a great start with an early goal to Jack and followed that up with another soon after by Brodie. We dominated the first half with the ball rarely crossing into our defensive area. We peppered their goal with shot after shot, a few missed opportunities and some good goalkeeping by them kept the score down. Tomo and Ava were dominating the midfield and splitting their defence with some excellent passing to set up many shooting opportunities. Max and Tomo also got on the score sheet in the first half.
The second half we moved a few players to unfamiliar positions and that was when we let United in to the game for the first time and they managed to get 2 goals against us. We were still creating chances and Tomo ended the game with 4 goals, Jack 2, Max and Brodie 1 each.
13 Girls v United lost 3 – 2
What a huge improvement from the girls who played United very early in the season.
The girls have come along way as a team and each and every one of the girls had a great game!!
We were lead by the back from Lily in goals- who pulled off an amazing penalty……To Keely, Paige, Sienna and Daisy who was awesome in Defence. Our midfield worked hard with Ava pushing the ball through and Georgia, Mattea and Ash killing it on the wings! Our forwards of Hayley, Salli, Emma and Tahlia all played well. A very exciting game to watch, bring on finals- Thanks to Tom for running the line. Great work girls!!
16 Girls v Wangaratta won 5 – 3
Wow!! What a game. We had a full side and a sub this week and the girls passes the ball around well!!
We created many scoring chances and held possession and were 2 nil up at half time. Bella lead the girls in the middle park and our defenders were awesome with Yasmin and Grace chasing down every ball. The girls have worked well as a team and lead the younger girls who week after week step in and we couldn’t do it with out you!
Thanks Harry for running the line. We got them girls- Great team work. Awards to Yas, Ciara, Kate and Tynecia!!
Thirds v United lost 0 – 4
The Thirds played a tight first half of the match on Sunday but let their collective guard down in the second half to go down 4 goals to nil. Not even a revving by Ian at half-time could get them up and going again. That half the team is made up of Sixteens’ players who have already played a full game makes it difficult but everyone did their best and there were some great passages of play. The backline was kept busy and keeper Scott made some remarkable saves. Thanks to Ben and Sam who ran the lines.
Over 35s v United lost 0 – 1
A courageous effort from the team today with everybody giving their all. Nobody had any petrol left in their tank. We held our own & suppressed & nullified the oppositions attack. They never had too much time on the ball. The intensity of our game was exceptional. We did not let them settle & they became frustrated with their inability to control the game. Meanwhile we maintained our dazzling form from the second half of the season & played some great football. It was only an unfortunate own goal by us in the dying minutes that had them take the 3 points. We are peaking at the right time & we feel confident about the finals. No one will be looking forward to meeting us as we continue to haunt the top teams.
Reserve Men v United lost 0 – 4
The Ressies put in a strong effort against the League champions. The team paid heavily for some errors early in the game and then were unfortunate not to get a couple of goals. Zac Brodie and Mick Corkett were outstanding in midfield with Ash Hockin having a great defensive game. Dineesh and Durga played well in the forwards. John Irvine made some outstanding saves in goals.
Senior Men v United lost 1 – 3
This game was closer than the score suggests. Our opponents grabbed every chance that came their way. Jerome Dunphy scored a terrific goal to get back to 1-2 but Spurs could not take any more chances despite playing quite well. Ranga and Paul Kinning played well. Lewis Parrett, Jon Cochrane and Jerome also had strong games.
