Match Reports
11 Girls Semi final v Albury United won 5 – 0
A huge crowd was on hand to see the Girls take on Albury United for the chance to play in the Cup final and after a few close chances, the girls took the game away from their opponents by knocking in 3 unanswered goals. It was Tahlia, Ashleigh and Ava who grabbed the first half goals, but it was Daisy on the right side who tirelessly took the ball down the wing, and delivered some superb crosses which allowed Spurs to get on top.
The second half saw Spurs change their line-up, but it didn’t mean the goals would stop. Bella and Ruby snagged a goal each to finish the game 5-0. Every player was outstanding, and the team thoroughly deserve their spot in the Final. After taking out the League Championship a few weeks earlier, the girls will be chasing the elusive double against a very strong Wangaratta side. It is going to be a tight game and well worth watching, so come on down early Sunday to support the girls. Go Spurs!
11 Boys Semi final v Wang lost 0 – 1
Well it wasn’t the result we were hoping for on Sunday as we went down to Wang to exit the finals. Our Spurs tried their best, but it proved difficult to get past the Wang defence.
There were many tense moments in a physical game but this time unfortunately the score didn’t go our way.We had 3 very close games with Wang all year and it’s a reflection to how close the top teams are in the competition. The team were bitterly disappointed and gutted with not going on to playing in the cup final but they should be proud of what they have achieved this year, with many of our team still eligible to play in the U11s next year.
Mia and Jarrod want to thank the team for their sportsmanship throughout the season and the effort at training and games.
Good luck to the U11 girls playing this weekend, hope to see our team down at Jelbart to watch the girls Sunday.
13 Girls Semi final v Diamonds lost 3 – 4
Wow!! What a semi final game. The girls were all excited and started so well, we played as a team and got on the scoreboard first with Ash scoring a cracker!! At half time we were 2 to 1 up thanks to a goal from Georgia……we continued to play as a team and with 7 minutes to go were leading 3 to 1 after a great corner n finish by Ava and Mattea. Diamonds came at us hard and with the scores level and 30 seconds to go they put away the winning goal. Each and everyone of the girls played with courage and never gave up showing true spurs spirit!! A huge thank you to all the girls for a fantastic season not matter the result, best wishes to Mattea and her family who are leaving the area, we wish you the best of luck. I hope the girls stick at the game and keep enjoying themselves, it has been a pleasure to coach the girls and I’m extremely proud of them all for a great year from a team who lost to diamonds throughout the season 9 nil and 6 nil we really put them under pressure in the Semi Final. Thanks also to all the parents for their support and to Caroline for being our manager. Look forward to next year, keep up the great work girls!!
14 Boys v Albury City lost 1 – 3
16 Girls Semi final v Diamonds lost 1 – 5
The girls knew it would be a tough ask against Diamonds but they never gave up and really put them under pressure, the defenders chased hard and we were only 2 to 1 down at half time!! Unfortunately we ran out of steam with only 1 on the bench. The girls have had a challenging season but they have never given up, they play for each other and give it everything week after week!! A huge thank you to everyone who played and supported the team especially the under 13s who became valuable members of the team. Congrats to all the girls on a brilliant season!! We made the semi finals and should be very proud of their efforts! ! Well done and keep playing girls!!
