GREAT CUP FINAL DAY
It was a great day at Jelbart Park on Sunday with five Hotspurs teams playing in the Cup Finals. The teams banners were all outstanding and there was a great crowd of parents and supporters getting behind all our teams.
The 11 Girls were outstanding in claiming their second consecutive cup. The 13 Girls also won in a nail biter with a fantastic golden goal in extra time. The 11 Boys were beaten narrowly in a terrific game and likewise the 14 Boys lost in the last minute after playing really well. Our 16 Girls were a bit undermanned(personed) and played a really strong side but they displayed great
determination and represented our club with distinction.
A large crowd gathered at Brady’s Hotel to celebrate our day and everyone had a terrific night.
Look forward to seeing everyone back in 2019. GoSpurs !

Grand-Finals Match Reports
11 Boys (lost to the Cobram Rep team 0 – 1)
What a tough encounter, both teams playing ultra defensive football with not many opportunities.
One slight defensive mistake was what separated the teams. We didn’t win this game. We won the league. I don’t want the boys to lose sight of their marvellous achievement in finishing on top this season. We celebrate these things as it shows who was the most consistent team over the entire year. Cup victories will come.
It’s been a pleasure coaching these guys all year, I look forward to going one step further next season.
See you all this Saturday to receive your league awards.
14 Boys v Albury City lost 2 – 4
Not our day. Even though we beat the league champions last weekend we went into this grand final as underdogs once again 5th v 3rd. You wouldn’t had thought so as we went into an early lead when Tomoki was put through and finished superbly past the oncoming City keeper. However the lead didn’t last long and City hit us quickly with two goals in quick succession and then a third.
Trailing 1 – 3 at half time the kids looked dejected with hung heads. Craig and Kel reminded the team it’s not over and to go out there and fight your way back into the game.
And that they did. The team once again showed great character and battled tirelessly and eventually got their reward when Ava capitalised on the City keeper’s error to score our second and close the gap to only one goal, 2 – 3. Both battled away with attacks being thwarted by determined defensive efforts and unfortunately with two minutes left, City scored their fourth goal that killed the game off for us.
It was a fantastic ride to make your first ever grand final. You gave all of us, the coaches, parents, families, friends and Hotspurs supporters and yourselves a thrilling and exciting finals campaign right to the last minute of the grand final.
You made us all very proud.
I would like to thank Craig for all his help with the team this year, managing the team on Sunday as my over 35s commitment clashed with game time. Craig did a great job and his enthusiasm inspired the team.
Thanks also to Nancy for being Craig’s manager and supporting him and the team this year.
Thanks to David Spokes for running the lines and anyone else that helped out.
Thank you to the players for their commitment and attendance at training and game day. Thank you to the 13s that made them selves available as subs and didn’t complain once when they didn’t get much game time, showing what true team and club persons they are.
Last but not least, thank you parents of these wonderful kids. Your friendship and continued support of Craig and myself allowing us to coach, manage and train the team without any untoward interference is greatly appreciated.

11 Girls v Wangaratta won 3 – 1
It was always going to be a tough game against the always strong Wangaratta outfit. After a tense opening 15 minutes where both teams had a couple of half chances each, Spurs began to get on top. Rylee created a chance by beating a couple of defenders and put away a beautiful goal to send the huge crowd into a frenzy to take the team into the break 1 nil up.
As has become the norm, Alice was causing havoc down the right side and instead of crossing the ball as she normally does, decided to launch a long range curler that dipped over the keeper and under the crossbar to make it 2-0. Not long later, Elisha found a bit of space in the box and with probably the slowest goal ever seen – it seemed to take an eternity to roll over the line, slotted the third to put the game out of reach of Wangaratta and allow the crowd to relax a bit and enjoy the last 10 minutes of the game. Wangaratta did manage a late goal but Spurs knew they had it wrapped up and can be forgiven for taking their foot off the accelerator for the last 5 minutes of the season. There were too many great performances out there to single out anyone but thanks to Ava who stayed in goal the entire game, and even though she didn’t see much action, her presence in goal gives the team such confidence knowing she is prowling around behind the team.
Congratulations girls on another stellar season.
13 and under 16 girls report.
Well what an amazing season for both these teams. I couldn’t ask for a better group of girls to coach. They have been awesome, having over 20 girls every week training and a mix of older and younger players really provided a supportive and fun atmosphere. To see all 3 jr girls teams at spurs in the grand final is a credit to all the girls involved. The growth in the girls as individuals and a team has been a pleasure to watch. I hope the girls all stick with the game and spurs, the future looks very bright and I can see many of the girls going further. To all the families a huge thank you for your support and trust throughout the season, it makes my job as coach so much easier and was brilliant to see many of you making the banners for the girls on Saturday, they looked awesome!! To Narelle for all your hard work as manager this year, thank you! !
Finally to the 13 girls congrats on winning the league and cup double, a massive achievement and something very special. Both teams left nothing on the field and battled hard for the grand final. Special mention to Paige and Georgia for playing goal keepers for the team, you guys did so well.
Thanks to the club and all supporters on the day, we really appreciated it.
