Semi-Finals Match Reports
11 Boys v Melrose drew 0 – 0 then won 4 – 1 on penalties
It was a tough, gritty encounter and in typical fashion our boys held on.
The very small ground did not suit our style of play and the opposition keeper saved many a shot for goal that would usually have seen the back of the net.
Our captain Ethan made a fine save during penalties and many more during the game, with Carl sealing the victory twice with his penalty (check Facebook for footage)
The winning ugly trend continues.
We are all very proud of what these young fellas have achieved so far.
The boys have answered every question that has been asked this season. I am confident we can go one better on Sunday.
12 Boys v Myrtleford lost 0 – 4
When half our team play in the U/11s and their final goes to penalties, it really brings into question some bizarre scheduling from AWFA.
By the time the whole team arrived we were down 2-0, but fought on hard matching Myrtleford on the park if not the score sheet.
A great season from the u/12s, which was made up of 6 actual u/12 registered players and a conglomerate of 11 Boys and 13 girls.
We were super proud of their efforts over the year, and they all showed glimpses of what can happen in the future.
Thanks to our 12 boys Trae,Tyreece, Al, Lou, Ben and Alonso,
our gun representative U/13 girls, Ruby, Daisy, Tahlia and Ash,
And our U/11 boys Lenny, Cooper, Aydan, Ethan, Dustin and Sam.
And of course coach Habbo and manager Jarrod.
14 Boys v Wangaratta won 1 – 0
pre-game team chat and line-up
WE ARE GOING TO PLAY FOR THE CUP!
Let’s put this victory in to some perspective for you.
We finished the season 5th and took on the league Champions. Our previous results this year v Wangaratta, Round 5 lost 0 – 10, Round 16 lost 0 – 9 (0 – 19)!
Another fantastic team performance. The match was fairly even in the first half with both teams creating a few chances and both keepers and defence were holding the attacks at bay.
It wasn’t until Wangaratta handled the ball inside the box and we were awarded the penalty – which Tomoki superbly slotted into the corner – that the score line had its first change, taking us into half-time with a goal lead.
The second half was the longest 30 minutes of our lives. We had a few chances to go 2 up but mostly we were desperately defending. This time the luck went with us and Wang were unable to get the equaliser. Ian had another great game in goals, the defence stood strong and the midfield battled away tirelessly with defensive help from our forwards as well. The subs did their job when called upon.
Fantastic effort TEAM (Ian, Jonathon, Reese, Cody, Rupert, Brodie, Jay, Ethan, Ava, Dawson, Tomoki, Jayke, John, Taylin, Fraser, Jack. Coaches, Kel and Craig and parents and supporters.)

11 Girls v Diamonds won 4 – 0
Watched on by a nervous coach and a crowd of anxious families, the Spurs approached the semi final with determination and focus.
The girls were dominant from the outset. They were relentless, maintaining possession in the midfield and in attack, showcasing their impressive ball skills. When the opposition did get the ball, the girls were terriers and quickly took back possession.
Some trademark decisive runs from Alice, Elisha, Rylee and Ava in the second half, provided some great chances in front of goal. Golden boot Elisha scored the first, and Rylee and Chelsea chipping in with some great strikes. The scoreline could have been even more one sided, with some great shots from Poppy, Alice, Isla and Senna either just missing or being saved by the keeper.
All the girls played really well today, one of the best Team efforts for the year.
Well done girls. A big thank you to Ava, Rylee and Elisha for keeping goals. Another clean sheet!
Best of luck for the Grand Final!
13 Girls v United won 4 – 1
What a game from this great side. We played some very positive football as a team and created many scoring
chances. Our wingers Ash and Ruby were super quick and did an awesome job. Daisy held the centre of the park well
And our forwards Hayley, Elisha, Tahlia and Mya were awesome. Our defenders are some of the best you will see in the Under 13 girls.
With Bella, Keely, Alex and Emma letting nothing through. Georgia had a great game and played in different positions. Lily kept well and
lead the girls on the field. We welcome Sophie back into the team but will miss Lil next week- Thank you for a great season girls and congratulations
on making the grand final. A huge thank you to a Melrose supporter who ran our line and did an awesome job!!
16 Girls v Wangaratta won 2 – 1
Wow, Wow, Wow- These girls played their heart and souls into this game and left nothing out there on the park and battled the game right
until the end. We had lost both games through the season to Wang but on Sunday the Spurs girls played so well as a team and see themselves into the grand final.
Wang scored within the first 2 minutes but then Georgia scored an absolute cracker to get us back in the game. Going into the half 1 all. It was going to take something special and the girls did just that. Our defenders were incredible holding off all chances with Yasmin, Grace, Ciara, kate and Sienna chasing everything down. Lil was awesome in goals and kept very calm. Our midfielders Bella, Ava and Laura were brilliant and our forwards Hayley, Keely, Salli and Paige played well together and gave it everything. We will miss Bella and Lil next week but will give it everything!! It has been a fantastic season and to see all Junior girls through to the Grand Final is incredible- the future looks bright at Spurs!!
