Presidents Report
It was a tough day for most of our Senior teams at Wangaratta, but very unlucky for our O35s and 3rds to miss out on the full 3 points, especially with their depleted sides this week.
Our Junior sides from U16s down were postponed due to our strong AWFA representative contingent that travelled to Griffith for the Riverina Branch Championships. They all competed well and it’s great to see the talent building for the future of the club.
Expanding on last week, Football NSW are in town at the moment and held a clinic at Glen Park for female rep teams, goal keepers and coaches. Tonight they are holding a special Girls U/8-U/11 Miniroos training session at Willow Park Wodonga at 5- 6PM and U/12s to U/16s at 5-6:30PM. I highly recommend this to all our qualifying female competitors.
For all parents who would like to become coaches, they are also putting on a Miniroos coaching certificate, this is free of charge please register following the link.
Link removed as passed date.
This week we host Albury City in most grades.
Get along and show your support, it should be a great day’s football.

Div.1 Men v Wangaratta lost 0 – 8

Div.2 Men v Wangaratta lost 0 – 4
We knew this week was going to be tough and it was as we had a number of outs through both injury and unavailability. By the time kick off came around we had 80% of the team had played a game before but to everyone’s credit we battled hard all game. It is not often that a coach will take a 4-0 loss as easily as the two John’s did but there was an increase in effort from everyone. Thank you to Leo, Jack, Kristian and Zac who made their first appearances for the Ressie’s and all played well. We have slipped to 10th now and will play 8th placed Albury City this weekend.
Div.2 Women v Wangaratta

Over 35s v Wangaratta drew 1 – 1
The old boys were up early on Sunday for the trip south to Wangaratta. Our newest recruit, DJ Mickett, dropped a couple of bangers through the Bluetooth speaker (who couldn’t get fired up for game with hits like We didn’t start the fire and Africa) to get the lads ready for the testing encounter ahead! As we emerged pumped from all the hits we were greeted by a small but vocal crowd that had gathered on the main pitch for the blockbuster event only to be sent to the second field.
The 35s looked like they wouldn’t even be able to have any subs but Cruyff Grey-Block passed his fitness test, Phantom Boyd spent hours in the hyperbaric chamber to get himself right and the enigma, Mr First Class Foxy had to get his chauffer to the ground which was quite a step back.
An eerie feeling had crept over the ground, Wangaratta could sense that we were without some of our standout stars, the great Wildhino had been recruited as a scout for the women’s world cup, T-Bone Anelka was trying to buy some imports and Kudela Kel had been ruled out with injury and was upset at Wangaratta’s apparel shop along with five other crucial outs, were Spurs in trouble?
The kick off actual resulted the direct opposite of what we thought would happen, Spurs dominated proceedings early, playing the ball well and covering space and creating a few opportunities but we couldn’t get it in the back of the net. Kinno, Mickett, Brodes and Gaz were constantly both threatening and defending well through midfield when we final finished a magnificent set of passes for Brad to slot one in the back of the net. We then had a late period of 15 minutes where Wang dominated play and had the back four working very hard until half time.
The second half was very similar to the first but a closer tussle until another moment of brilliance had Kinno unmarked in the box with only the keeper to beat, a hush fell over the ground, Irvine had started running from the goals already in early euphoria as Kinno unleashed a thunderous shot that just kept rising and rising and well you get the picture, he missed. Not long after that Platini had a penalty claim shouted down but the tide was turning, Wang had found their superior fitness and pace and were back on top. Once again the defence were under siege but there was no sign of Steven Seagal, just the tired bodies of Loz, Doug, Gaz and Bonners and Brodes, they tried hard but Wang finally managed to get one past us with 2 minutes to go. Thankfully we held on for a point but it felt like a loss, we will learn from this. Well done to Brad for scoring but Mickett getting credited with goal and Kinno on winning his first pink bib.
This draw has us sitting in 7th position ahead of the much anticipated return of Naymer Harding and his new Albury City team mates. If you are an avid supporter of football, this could be a game for the ages, it may be smart to catch public transport for this event as we see it being bigger than the food trucks or if you fancy it, a vegan protest in Melbourne.
