Presidents Report
Sunday was another tough day at home for Spurs against a very strong outfit in Albury City.
Our juniors again showed what the future beholds with wins in the 12s, 13 boys and 14 girls.
What lacked in results Senior wise didn’t lack in spectacle. I managed to witness a fine display by our O35s in between the 12s and 13s matches.
The O35s team is full of some of the greatest supporters and volunteers around our club.
It contains our Reserve and 11s Miniroos coach, our Club Secretary/Division 2 Womens Coach, and Treasurer/Canteen Manager, our Miniroos Coordinator, our Club Registrar/Game Day and Social Media coordinator and 16 boys coach, Club sponsors, and many other coaches that support our junior and senior playing ranks across the club.
They are also the last ones to clean up/pack up and leave the grounds each week and without this group our club just wouldn’t function.
Whenever you get the opportunity, please come along to their games, offer support and watch a fine spectacle of passion and persistence. Age is no barrier.
We host cross border rivals Diamonds on Sunday April 28th , this is a big chance for our young Seniors to get the points.
I hope you and your family have a safe and happy Easter.

Div.1 Men v Albury City lost 0 – 10
A tough day in the office. Coming up against a well drilled team who punished us at every opportunity. They will be up there come seasons end. We were our own worst enemy at times with some sloppy play but we have to learn from our mistakes. Got a fortnight now to turn it around and make it right. Congrats to Zac Bonetti for making his Seniors debut off the bench in a cameo on the field.
Div.2 Men v Albury City drew 1 – 1
A very good hard fought draw against a team who has beaten us well in the past. We were under the pump for the first 10-15 mins but able to hold them out. Managed to score first through good build up play finished off by Brandon. Conceded early on in the second half but our defence held strong and got a well earned point for our efforts.

Over 35s v Albury City lost 1 – 2
Report 1: The old boys returned home from their exhaustive road trip down south to meet a rejuvenated Albury City on Sunday. The return of former player Damo “Zlatan Naymar” Harding had ensured that there would be standing room only at the smaller Lambert Stadium and the crowd was buzzing with excitement. Coach Irvine had taken the unusual step of playing our equal highest goal scorer, and self-proclaimed striker, Justin “Wildhino” Wild into the centre of the park with T-Bone, he had questioned himself all weekend about this move, would the shadow of his former self end up like Loz, or would he reach for the stars? Once the national anthem had been played, it was game time and Spurs hit the ground running, the team were playing very good football passing the ball around well and creating chances, left right and centre but not putting anything in the back of the net. The defence and midfielders were solid in lead up play to the first goal when a dashing Gaz came prancing down the left side like Winx day before and split the defence with a pulsating cross that managed to pick out not one but two of our own players, Foxy was able to rise higher and faster than a suite upgrade at Etihad to head home a fantastic goal and celebrate like a West Ham tragic for us to go 1-0. Loz, Bonners Gaz and Coatsy were really only under pressure when they had to call on the inexperienced club linesman who was officiating in his first high pressure match to make the right call and the midfielders continued to offer up opportunities on a platter but we still went into the break 1-0 up. The second half saw us continue in the same way as the first half until a clumsy, no that is being PC, a poor push from behind saw Coatsy be taken from the field with a mild concussion. The game then fired up, things became heated and the yellows were starting to fly think and fast, thankfully we had the calm head of Tuksar in the middle of the park defusing the situation but Zlatan Naymar couldn’t contain himself when Brad made a fair challenge on him and was shown his second slice of cheese and then the sauce and a rousing welcome from the pitch, to bring City to ten men. Not long after that Butsy stood on a rampant bindy and swapped out to put Eddy in goal. Spurs were still peppering a very well filled Albury City goal when Albury City pounced on a defensive mix up to bring the score back to 1-1. Platini entered the game with to a rousing personal applause (well played doc) and we were pushing for a winner when somehow we lost our shape and City put their second away with a couple of minutes to go. That’s right, for all of our endeavours, we let a game that we dominated slip and we lost. Gaz and T-Bone both put in great shifts and well done to Cruyff and the Phantom who continue to work on their games. Also thank you to The Pres for helping on the line and thankfully Coatsy is ok as well. This loss has seen us fall from grace and sit in 8th on the ladder with our next encounter with 4th placed Diamonds looming after the Easter weekend.

Report 2: Football: it’s a funny game. Just like life, full of highs and lows, unexpected twists and turns. Its how we learn and adjust and cope with the disappointment that sets us apart from others. After the match on Sunday it’s fair to say we were let down and hanging around crushed like a bug in the ground (Radiohead 1997)
We were keen to make amends for last week’s game in Wangaratta. We were fired up to face Neymar Harding who had transferred to City in the offseason for a record over 35s transfer fee (one slab as it turned out)
“Just do what we did in training for the last 2 weeks” said our Supercoach. Minor detail: many had not fronted up to training and so had no idea what this meant. But we started well and “the best ball playing team in the league” moved the ball around, stretching the opposition.
At the 15 minute mark a slow curling cross from Larryinho Kavanagh on the left wing met the head of Foxy, who knocked it in at the far post. Controversy! The linesman signalled off side after the goal. What foxy off-side. No! The referee consulted for what seemed like minutes and Yes ! the goal of the season was awarded. Look out Wildinho, Foxy has drawn equal on golden boot (1 each).
Great flag work on the sideline from El Presidente Brad who, exhausted, was replaced at half time.
Supercoach urged us onwards. Put them under pressure, play out of traffic, watch out they are playing direct, take your chances. Did anyone listen?
A battle of the heavyweights Neymar Harding v Robbie T-bone Tuksar unfolded in central midfield. Inevitably Neymar gave away a yellow card and then, took the bait, a second yellow for swearing (take note kids) and off he went to the ironic applause of the Hotspurs bench.
We were well on top, 1-0 up on the scoreboard and they were down to 10 men. We relaxed. We didn’t pressure enough, they played direct, we didn’t take chances. There were flicks with the outside of the boot (banned), back heels (banned), one touch (discouraged). Many chances created, none taken. A joy to watch but no result.
With 10 on the clock, desperate to get a win, it was time to finally unleash Platini. Acknowledging the (imaginary) applause from the crowd as he ran on, he earned maximum Bidone points for the week. This turned out to be the highlight of his cameo. The gold and black surged forward fighting for a win but a tragedy was to unfold.
As foretold, 2 direct balls from city, 2 goals just like that.
The City laughed and celebrated. It hurt. Neymar smirked. Karma Police arrest that man. (Radiohead 1997)
“The best ball playing team in the league” but in 8th place. Out of 8.
We did listen to the Supercoach say “Fair Play for the sake of the juniors watching”. Well done.
Hopefully we learn more lessons from Sunday, put it in perspective, maybe adjust our expectations, improve, rise to the challenge, come to training, move on. Come on Spurs.

16 Boys v Albury City lost 0 – 2
Round 5 saw an unfortunate 2 nil loss for the under 16 boys. The team had their fair share of opportunities to score but failed to put one in the back of the net. The team played well and continued to work together and encourage each other. The defence had a good game reducing the opportunities for City to score a goal. In the end, it was a good battle between the two teams and City only just scraped through for the win.

14 Girls v Albury City won 10 – 1
A great result from the girls who worked hard for it. They were first to the ball, created scoring chances and finished them. There were 6 different goal scorers, with Ava and Ruby netting 3 each. The defence were strong and backed each other up denying City many scoring opportunities.
Awards this week donated by Nancy at The House of Trends are Maddy and Elisha.
13 Boys v Albury City won 6 – 0
The 13s were great today. Dominating the middle of the park, with Alonso and Lenny running rings around their midfield, providing some lovely through balls to Ruby who was on fire today, finding the net 3 times.
Darcy was very poised playing his 4th game, and kicked a ripper goal which I’m sure was the first of many.
Trae also joined the party, and unselfishly put through some classy assists to Wildy and Ruby before netting one for himself.
Tyreece, Paras and Dustin were tough all day defensively, Daisy particularly showing them all how to position herself to win the disputed ball, she was rock solid.
Al is nursing the dreaded heel severs that seems to go through our young team week after week, he came on sporadically and held his position well.
No training this week for the Easter break. Back on the 24th April
Goals: Ruby x3, Darcy, Wildy, Trae x1 each
12 Boys v Albury City won 4 – 1
We had quite the slowish start today dominating sections of the first half but offering little near goals. Zavier was given a new role in defence which he carried out very well and gives us many more options going forward. Like Maradona v England circa 1986, Isaiah was able to get our first score, but City equalised with a cracking goal of their own.
We headed into the break even at 1 apiece. To the team’s credit, they responded to the Brads instructions, moving wide into attack and getting some great crosses into the box, many of which were parried by Citys keeper. Wildy capitalised on a loose ball and Cooper also slotted one from a penalty and another ripper.
It was great to see Will, Billy and Josh being creative in the midfield, they are still learning their craft on the bigger pitch but are displaying great football talent. Shifting Carl to centre back and giving Lenny more freedom in midfield was also a stellar move in my opinion, and Dustin, John, Murray and Nick were solid all day in defence.
Also our unsung hero Ethan, does a brilliant job in goals week in week out.
Good to get back on the winners list.
We are taking a week off training for the Easter break.
Goals: Cooper x2, Isaiah and Wildy x1 each
