Presidents Report
Last weekend we were away at Boomers and had some mixed results. Our Senior men showed some glimpses of what they are capable of but were outclassed in the end by a pretty classy outfit.
This weeks round we host Wodonga Heart and celebrate Women’s Football. All the female games will be played on the main pitch as we celebrate Female Football week. At Spurs we have such a wealth of female footballers, past and present, and we can really embrace the important role our women play within the club.
We invite all past players to come and enjoy the festivities. Spurs have the most female competitors from Miniroos all the way up to our Division 2 Ladies teams. We also have the largest contingent of female AWFA Representative players and many also moving into various NPL sides in both states. After the Division 2 Ladies, we are cutting a celebratory cake. It’ll be a great day. See you all there.

Div.1 Men v Boomers
Div.2 Men v Boomers lost 31 – 4
Sunday saw us travel to Glen park to take on 5th placed Boomers. In a total turn around from the previous month we opened the scoring within a minute of kick off(much to John B’s delight) and continued to play good football in patches for the rest of the half but started to loose our shape and work rate and conceded before half time. The second half saw us get completely overrun as we lost our shape and our desire to play as a team. It is very important for us to play as a team and work together, for each other. Well done to Bonners in goals, again and to Rob for marshalling the troops around him. This week will be a game where we must focus as a group!

Suffering many key omissions due to injury and other commitments this game against the second top team was always going to be tough. Dustin was given a job on their key midfielder and wore him like a glove giving him no space. He started to run out of gas after a big game in the 12s. Eventually Boomers took hold and a couple of defensive blunders that didn’t impress our keeper Ethan, who had saved a tremendous amount of goals.
4-0 down at the break , we knew we just had to play a deeper defensive line and keep more possession the midfield. Alonso started taking control in the centre and Ben stepped his game up a gear. This was supported by Alex Ventress and Keely Halloway who were like brick walls in defence and distributed the ball beautifully. With Alonso scoring a worldie from outside the box, Dustin scoring too and Ben unlucky to be offside for one I reckon we won the second half which speaks a lot of what we are capable of.
Goals : Alonso and Dustin x1
12 Boys v Boomers won 8 – 0
Missing quite a few players today, we had a real shift in the middle to accommodate our missing defensive players. So we started slowly missing a couple of chances but not quite finding our mojo up front. We ended the half 1-0 up thanks to Josh.
We made a few structural changes for the second half, Zavier in particular really enjoyed the right side of the forward setup, making a couple of dashing runs and great crosses on goal, setting up Will and then scoring a cracking goal himself. Well done Zav.
Will Hale finally got reward for his efforts with a hattrick. Carl, Issy, and Cooper all scoring also.
If we play like we did in that second half, there is no reason why we can’t challenge the teams above for the rest of the year.
Great games also to Billy up front, and Dustin and Sam who really organised an inexperienced defence.
Goals: Will x3, Josh, Cooper, Zavier, Carl, Isaiah x1 each
