Presidents Report
On Sunday we had our first “come and try” rounds for our All Ability football.
It was a real heart-warming occasion. The players were given a light training session and a little practice game on Lambert Park, and also given a soccer ball to take home and practice. A huge thanks to Aidan Kilroy and Diahann and Harry Maher for your efforts. It really is the start of something special and we have received a tremendous amount of positive feedback. The next session will be held at our next home game on the 28th July.
We hosted Wangaratta on Sunday, they too have an All Abilities squad and next year we will hopefully see the two teams play each other.
Results across the board were quite good on the weekend, Wang are a very strong club and we had some great games of football.
Just a reminder to get your teams organised for Trivia night. This has historically been a ripper social occasion and a great way to meet others around the club.
We are still after more donations for prizes on the night, and it represents an opportunity for many to give their businesses a low cost advertisement.
This week we have our last road trip for the year when we travel Cobram.
Safe travels and good luck.

Match Reports
Div.1 Men v Wangaratta lost 0 – 5
Even though the result shows a convincing victory, no one can fault our players efforts against the very powerful league leaders in Wangaratta. We were on the backfoot early conceding a penalty but from then on we battled even creating some half chances of our own. The back four especially Manny and Milky did an admirable job containing their star imports with Bonners pulling off some great saves to keep the score down. Two late goals in the 5 mins was the only sour note in what was a good performance and continued what has been a good last month of football from us.
Div.2 Men v Wangaratta lost 1 – 4
The boys put in another solid effort and while it showed a 4-1 loss the game was actually a lot closer than that. We have once again improved on the previous game, which as we have said before, is all we want in the second half of the year. We welcomed Brandon back from injury / holiday and had meaningful contributions from everyone. I would also like to praise both teams for how the game was played and thank JB for running the squad, and the people who put their hand up to run the line. This loss still has us in 11th with a game against 9th placed Cobram this weekend and we need to get maximum points.
Div.2 Women
Over 35s v Wangaratta drew 1 – 1
This result mirrored the corresponding fixture in Wangaratta with another draw being played out between the two squads. Wang were first to score but we also had many opportunities but it took a lovely bit of lead up play from T-Bone to find the evergreen Coatsy lurking to slot the equaliser. Thank you to the wonderful volunteers who ran the line for us, Happy Birthday to Eddy, happy retirement to Brodes, enjoy your trip home Aido and Gaz and well done to Mickett on winning the bib. The draw still leaves us sitting in seventh but we are aiming for a top five finish.
Div.3 Men
16 Boys v Wangaratta lost 0 – 4
Last weekend saw an unfortunate loss on the part of the under 16 boys. The game proved a tough challenge and after our last encounter with Wangaratta (3 all draw) we had high hopes. Unfortunately it was not to be and we conceded 4 goals to a doughnut, zip, zero. The backline was constantly pounded by the Wangaratta attack and managed with some great saves from Nagle to stop a large portion of their attacking runs. We also had our fair share of chances in front of goals but couldn’t manage to put one in the back of the net. My one move Masterclass (a nuttie) brought a standing ovation from the crowd and resulted in once again nothing. Overall the team played well but in the end just wasn’t good enough to get the win from the second placed Wangaratta.
From Jono
This weekend we travel to Cobram for 8:30am kickoff. You need to be at Cobram Show Ground by 8am. Travel time from Albury is approximately 1 1/2 hours but I suggest you give yourself more time to get there so you can drive to the conditions. Please don’t rush, I’d rather you arrive safely even if it makes you late.
Coach Kel.
16 Girls v Wangaratta lost 2 – 5
After a pretty heavy loss to Wangaratta the week before, the girls were resolved to come out fighting this week. With our core group of 16 Girls well rested for this week we were able to give our 14 Girls lots of rest throughout the game. We were also buoyed from the guest appearance by Ava Tuksar. The girls fought hard all game. Ruby made many chances down the wing after she offered up some strategic subbing ideas to the coach. Grace was a strong and vocal leader in centre back this week, making Wangaratta work for every ball and leaving many watching in awe of her ability to be in the right place. Ciara was consistent as our defensive mid, holding up play in the midfield and allowing our back line time to get organised. Our ‘everyone gives it a go’ goalkeeping policy saw Bree & Bailee step up this week and some great saves were made by both girls. After penetrating Wangaratta’s defence on the reg throughout the game the girls were finally rewarded with two goals late in the second half. Both scored by Ava after some great team play in the lead up. A massive improvement from our last outing against Wangaratta and a team we will be looking to improve upon again come finals. Thank you to all the 14 Girls who play up each week and support the club in this way, we would not be able to field a team without you.
14 Boys
14 Girls v Wangaratta won 4 – 0
A great game from the Under 14 girls who pass the ball around well and work so creatively together as a team! It was great to have Keely back in the defence line with Alex, Georgia and Eloise who are proving to be a very tough opposition to break. Daisy held the mid field really well and controlled the play to our wings Ruby and Elise putting the ball up front for Maddie, Mya and Hayley. Lil was awesome in goals and then played in the mid field. As always Ava and Elisha played awesome off the bench and was great to have subs. A very warm welcome to Abby and her family to Hotspurs, she played her very first game at Spurs and did a great job!! Awards to Keely (Muffin Break), Abby (House of trends) Elise (Muffing Break) and Daisy ( Urban Graze). Keep up the great work girls as we head to Cobram!
13 Boys v Wangaratta drew 2 – 2
The 13s started very similar to the 12s, but perhaps with less expectations. The attitude amongst the players was not about if Wang would beat us but by how much. Not today my friends.
A carbon copy of the 12s start which saw an own goal from Coopers corner. All of a sudden there was steely resolve through the players, who really can achieve. We stuck to the plan, knowing Wang would fight back hard and they eventually hit the lead in the second half.
We kept attacking, we got opportunity after opportunity, Ben was terrific and tenacious up front, desperately unlucky not to score numerous goals. We won a few corners and Cooper put one right into the mix, Lenny smashed it through, the crowd went wild.
We weren’t done, this team smelled blood, Ben had one last chance deep into stoppage, the ball just dribbled wide.
A point was a good get against this team, but we know we can get the full 3 next time we meet.
Awards: Cooper, Al
Goals Lenny x1, OG
12 Boys v Wangaratta drew 1 – 1
On the frostiest morning Lambert Park has seen since The Pleistocene Epoch, we started the game in a flurry. A couple of early corners saw us get a well-deserved own goal from a delightful cross from Cooper. He now has his kicking boots back and managed to lift a few off the ground unlike last weeks daisy cutters.
We dominated most parts of this clash and Isaiah was unlucky to be ruled offside with a blistering burst of pace and a classy finish.
Nick had a ripper game and deserved his award, Lenny too, he is really starting to ramp up his efforts for finals.
We really were unlucky not to win this game, and if we keep up that sort football we will push Cobram this week which could quite possibly be match of the year.
