Presidents Report
On Sunday we had our first “come and try” rounds for our All Ability football.
It was a real heart-warming occasion. The players were given a light training session and a little practice game on Lambert Park, and also given a soccer ball to take home and practice. A huge thanks to Aidan Kilroy and Diahann and Harry Maher for your efforts. It really is the start of something special and we have received a tremendous amount of positive feedback. The next session will be held at our next home game on the 28th July.
We hosted Wangaratta on Sunday, they too have an All Abilities squad and next year we will hopefully see the two teams play each other.
Results across the board were quite good on the weekend, Wang are a very strong club and we had some great games of football.
Just a reminder to get your teams organised for Trivia night. This has historically been a ripper social occasion and a great way to meet others around the club.
We are still after more donations for prizes on the night, and it represents an opportunity for many to give their businesses a low cost advertisement.
This week we have our last road trip for the year when we travel Cobram.
Safe travels and good luck.
Go Spurs

Match Reports
Div.1 Men v Cobram drew 2 – 2
We took our longest road trip of the season to Cobram where previous history has shown we haven’t fared well when we have played there. It looked like continuing when Cobram were ahead in the first couple of mins. From then on we fought back and in a matter of mins we were in front thanks to a double strike from Luke Dahl, assisted both times by Harry Heath. Cobram equalised just before halftime with a lucky goal. After the break it was end to end, both teams trying to strike the fatal blow. From a spectator point of view it was a very entertaining game and from a Spurs point of view we couldn’t be prouder of thew boys efforts throughout the game. A very happy bus on the way back to Albury.
Div.2 Men v v Cobram drew 1 – 1
Some days the ball goes in the back of the net, some days it doesn’t. The score does not reflect the dominant effort of the whole team on Sunday, nor does it reflect their disappointment with the draw. We had fantastic contributions from everyone, but I would like to acknowledge the significant efforts of Dylan, Manny, Brandon and Rob. I would also like to praise the bench and how they handled the little amount of game time that they had and in some instances, didn’t get. Unfortunately we are still languishing in 11th position and our goal of finals is slipping away but the way that we have been playing we could cause some upsets on the way home.
Div.2 Women v Cobram won 3 – 1
A cracking game for the ressies ladies with all the girls playing well. It was great to see Bella return and she teamed up nicely with Ava up front.
The girls started strong and scored early. The communication was great on the field and the girls pushed hard. The defence line was solid lead by Laura with Yas, Nat Kendall and Grace letting very little through. Jess and Anna held the middle and created many scoring chances with Keely and Lil running hard on the wings.
Christy was solid in goals and held position. With Sam and Siann having a red hot go up front. Keep up the great team work girls. It was a pleasure to Coach for the
weekend!! Thanks Justin for running the line.

Div.3 Men
16 Boys v Cobram lost 3 – 6
Hotspurs 3, Cobram 6. Today’s game Ava returned and played nicely with some aggression. When Kristian Was on field he put in the effort to score a penalty. Harry was a major contributor to the team with his 2 goals. Today we saw no broken bones from Clarkey but I gues he also played a great game (kind of) (jk). Hope you enjoy this match report like I will enjoy my free burger.?

14 Boys
14 Girls v Cobram won 5 – 0
Another solid game from the under 14 girls, they were passing the ball well against a team that closed down the space which made it difficult to play. The defenders played well and let nothing through. A really great team effort with all 11 under 14 girls playing well as we had no bench with the 12s back in Albury.
Awards: Lil (house of trends) Georgia(Muffin Break) Maddie(Urban Graze). Well done girls
13 Boys v Cobram lost 1 – 7
After a season high performance against Wang last week, we knew that we coming into some good form to face the undefeated Cobram team.
Mirroring last week’s performance we kept the score to 0-0 all until the 20 minute mark, having some clear scoring opportunities ourselves, the game was evenly poised.
Then they kicked an unbelievable shot from range, then another, and another. Half time we were 3-0 down.
Alonso scored the first goal of the second half but after their quick reply we really dropped the ball.
Cobram are a great team, they could’ve won by far more if we didn’t have the heroics of Ethan and Lenny down the back. In the end, they knew how to use the small field to their advantage, quick one touch passes, had our players jumping in instead of holding their ground.
Still holding our heads high, a few tweaks over the next month or so defensively and we won’t cop another loss like that for the rest of the year.
If we can perform like our first half for an entire game, anything is possible against all comers.
Awards: Lenny, Darcy
Goal: Alonso
12 Boys v Cobram lost 1 – 2
Many of the team travelled the night before so they could be fresh for the morning start against what has been our arch rival over the last few years.
Quite a number of players booked into the Golf resort in Barooga, only to find the fix was in, they’d cut the power off. Nonetheless Pizzas were ordered from the powered up town of Cobram and they arrived a few hours later just prior to breakfast when the power returned.
This did not deter our resilient players, many arriving far earlier to the Cobram showgrounds than they arrive to our own home games in Albury.
It was a cracking start to the game, with Nick crossing a ripper only to miss Billy by inches at the back post. Our first half we looked the superior side and held them 0-0
We were unlucky to ship 2 goals in the second half, they probably only had one player that beat us for pace who score both the goals.
Sam made a brilliant one handed save on the goal line, lucky the ref didn’t see it as Ethan was still goalkeeping.
Lenny scored a ripper goal from a Cooper set piece but unfortunately it was the last play of the match.
I’m confident we can beat this side in the finals.
Awards: Sam, Isaiah
Goal: Lenny
12 Girls v United won 8 – 1
The Spurs dominated possession in the first half, but probably lacked their usual aggression on the ball. Lucinda and Sophia provided opportunities in attack, as did Ava, Mia and Poppy in the midfield. A solid defensive effort from Bianca, Eloise, Seanna, Taylor and Zali managed to keep the ball and the opposition in the attacking half. The dominant possession lead to goals with Rylee scoring twice, and Elisha scoring twice from a couple of sublime strikes from out wide.
At the half time break Coach Wild asked the girls to be more aggressive. The girls responded and had a better second half. Isla, Mia and Seanna dominated in the midfield. Eloise and Zali relished their opportunities in attack. Rylee scored another couple of impressive goals. Some classy Elisha passes put Eloise into space down the right side and Eloise scored twice with impressive strikes.
Another great result for the Spurs.
Big thanks to Isla and Ava for being in goals and doing an outstanding job.
Special mention and awards go to Lucinda, Poppy, Sophia and Zali for their impressive contributions during the match. Thanks to House of Trends, Muffin Break and Urban Graze for providing the awards.
