Presidents Report
On a beautifully sunny Saturday afternoon at Aloysius we held what has to be our largest Junior Presentation day yet. To have such great numbers across all the age groups really is a positive sign for the future. Well done to the coaches and managers of each team, without your efforts throughout the year these players couldn’t play the game they love. Thanks again to Diahann Maher for organizing the trophies and Wayne ‘White dog’ Davies for the use of his speakers and PA equipment.
A special thanks must go to Olivia Howard for the hard work behind the scenes, working in the canteen, selling raffle tickets, coordinating prizes for the trivia night and organising the chocolates drive for the Miniroos, an unsung hero.
All those with photos of the day, please feel free forward them to info@alburyhotspurs.com.au
On Sunday we had our last game of the regular season at Melrose. Some great results across the board and terrific to see the Juggernaut of a side the U/12 girls secure their 3rd League title in a row. Well done team.
On the main field the Seniors gave their Captain a great send off, winning 0-2. All the best with your University studies Lukey Dahl, we hope to see you back in action for Spurs some time down the track.
This weeks Quarter finals are played over various locations but all relatively close, Jelbart, Melrose and Alexandra Parks. We have solid representation across all age groups, please get along to offer your support.

Match Reports
Div.1 Men v Melrose won 2 – 0
In our last game of the season it was something to remember as we posted a dominating win against a team one spot above us. From the outset our pressure was relentless and we were rewarded with Captain Luke Dahl playing his last game before heading to Uni heading in from the corner. We had numerous other chances to bury them but could not convert. It wasn’t until the 2nd half we got our second. Great buildup play by Kristian whose cross found Ben Gardiner and he put it past the keeper with a beautiful strike. We can be pleased with our second half of the season and hope to go one better and reach the finals next season.
Luke Dahl heads home the opener to go 1 up.
Yet again, The Away Hill, showed their great support #GoSpurs
Zac, Ben and Luke who have played together for Hotspurs all the way from Juniors through to Div.1 Men with guidance from coach John Belgre from the begining.
Div.2 Men v St Pats lost 1 – 3
Well the final match of the year certainly was full of drama. Spurs slipped behind 2 goals but kept on creating chances but just couldn’t get one in. Cue Townie to set the crowd alight with this year’s goal of the year contender. Perched about 65 meters out into a stiff breeze he managed to hit the half flat ball at Ronaldo like trajectory for it to hit the bar and go in off the keepers back, game on. Five minutes later the great man stepped up again and wowed the crowd again with a deft free kick that beat everyone, 2-all. Unfortunatley the game was called early after Leo was involved in a nasty head incident but thankfully has now been given the all clear. I would like to thank Townie for taking the boys in some training sessions, John Belgre for co coaching and his contributions to team line up and Ian Belgre for managing the team. I would also like to thank everyone who has helped on the lines throughout the year as well. Finally, thank you to all of the players for trying to do the best you could every week in a very trying year, hopefully we can get a more consistant line up next year and get the results.

It was definitely a game of two halves. Although the goals to Keely and Alonso were world class, once we took the lead in the first half we seemed to get out of position and shape ending the half 3-1. With a few structural changes at half time the team got their angles back and started playing some delightful transitional ball work. It was great being able to throw Paras forward in the second half so he could score, and Daisy Tuksar was marvellous covering various positions. Lenny’s second half goals were also Worldies. Let’s hope we can take some of that second half momentum into the Quarter final this week. I have no doubt this team can accomplish anything.
Goals: Cooper x2, Lenny x2, Will, Paras, Alonso, Keely.
12 Boys v Melrose won 4 – 1
We got off to a real fast start with Josh cracking in 2 goals to put us into a commanding position. It was great to see the team taking their passing game to new levels heading into finals. The defense put in some stellar performances with Sam using his body to outwit some faster forwards. Carl popped up in the second half with a nice goal after working hard through the midfield. Thanks to Riley Irvine who came up from the 11s to get a taste of full sided soccer. Well played.
We play the same team this week in the quarter finals. Let’s hope for a similar performance.
Goals: Josh x2, Carl x 1, Will x 1
12 Girls v Melrose won 3 – 0
Another fine performance from the girls again who wrapped up the League Championship for the 3rd year in a row. The team continue to develop their passing game with some exceptional passages of play again on display.
Zali continued her run of scoring goals by slotting another one after some good lead up play by Elisha. Elisha then decided to curl one in from a corner, her 4th goal from corners this year! Melrose came out hard in the second half and if it wasn’t for Isla’s fearless efforts as goalkeeper, Spurs would have conceded a goal or two. However as we have become accustomed to, the girls lifted again and when Sofia drilled a classic goal (her first of the season), the huge crowd on hand could relax and start to celebrate this champion teams efforts. A great rendition of the club song by the girls after the game topped off a brilliant regular season. Congratulations Girls and good luck in the finals.
