Presidents Report
The first week of the finals have been and gone with mixed results for our Spurs teams but every team doing the club proud.
All year I have been applauding our female teams, all of which are still alive in the finals. Our Division 2 Ladies and our U/16 girls are playing in Myrtleford on Saturday its well worth a drive in this fine spring weather, a winery or two along the journey, the more support the better. On Sunday our U/12 and U/14 girls are at Latrobe Uni Wodonga, these girls both won the League titles and are strong chances to advance.
The only Hotspurs boys team left in the finals is our U/12s, they play Cobram at 8am at Latrobe, they play an exciting brand of football so come along and offer your support.
Grand Final catering:
As I have mentioned, a major fundraiser this year is the AWFA Grand Final day catering. We are sharing the duties with Boomers and have been planning this day for months in advance. All we need now is for a few more players, parents and supporters to offer their time on the BBQ or Canteen, in 1 hour blocks. Please email or text me your availability, “Many hands make light work”.

Match Reports
Div.2 Women v Wang won 1 – 0
Over 35s v Twin City lost 1 -4
The old boys made the trip to Jelbart Park for what turned out to be our final game of the season against Twin City. After what could only be described as an interesting effort on the training track on Tuesday and Thursday, a different team turned up with a desire to win and play for each other on Sunday. We controlled and created chances aplenty in the first half with the ball hitting the post 3 times and Kewin finessed a header home only to be called for a debateable offside.
T-Bone was then fouled in the box and stepped up to power home the equaliser and we went into the break 1 all. Unfortunately we got caught a couple of times on the counter after some fantastic lead up play and soon found ourselves down 2-1 and pretty quickly 3-1 but we continued to push and ended up going down 4-1. This game showed us the difference between the two sides who played on the day and I think that while our success on the park may have fallen short of our goals at the start of the year, it demonstrates that sometimes winning isn’t everything.
Now some thank you’s.
To everyone who has helped out by running the line at some point during the year, thank you from all of us. To Townie and Cobra, thank you for your help at training when I was unavailable. To the Seniors, Ressies and Thirds, thank you for allowing us to have a run with you on a Tuesday and Thursday night. To the wives, partners and children of the players, thank you for letting your significant other to be away from you in the evenings and the Sundays and thanks for coming to support us. Thank you to Aido and Loz for your substantial contributions on Sundays, it is sometimes a hard job but it has made it easier with you two and what you do. Thank you to the players for the year, as I said we may not have made it to either of our goals this year but we tried. It was amazing to see so many of you make the effort to train when you could, apply yourself when there and also help out where you could around the club and a piece of my life membership is yours. While some of you didn’t get the amount of game time that you wished for your contribution was still important, but what is more important is the laughs and banter.
16 Boys v Wangaratta lost 0 – 2
The boys gave their all and more than matched Wangaratta. We were very unlucky not to score after hitting the post and crossbar and their keeper making some crucial saves. Nil all into the break and looking to take it to them in the second half. It was much the same, a tight battle and both teams finding it difficult to create and finish of any chances. Unfortunately Wang scored midway in the second half after a shot was deflected cruelly away from our keeper. This gave Wang some confidence and they became more settled at the back. Chasing the game we had to push more bodies forward, going to three at the back in search of the equaliser. The team never gave up and played some beautiful passing football but were unable to find the goal we so desperately needed. With two minutes to go, Wang were able to secure the game by scoring on the counter attack.
Apologies to Cody who was gracious and understanding about not being able to fit on the team sheet and also to the boys who didn’t get much game time.
I would like to thank Carolyn for managing the team, Craig, David, Rick and any others for running lines throughout the year. I would also like to thank the squad of (17) players for your commitment and support of each other over the year.

13 Boys v Myrtleford lost 1 – 2
We took the lead late in the first half compliments to an Alonso penalty. Myrtleford were at us and probably dominated most of the first half, but Lenny, Tyreece, Ben, Paras and Sam were holding firm. With half our squad backing up from an early final in the 12s it was always going to be a tough battle, Myrtleford with all fresh legs. Great games Alonso, Keely and Cooper.
Its been a great season of highs and lows but the team were really stringing together some fine performances at the end of the year.
Its been a pleasure coaching this group, I hope we see all your faces back at Spurs next year and we will go further in the finals without doubt.
Thanks to Shaun Gibbons for doing such a fine job managing the team.
12 Boys v Melrose won 4 – 0
The team are starting to hit some great form. Carl made a great run down the left to slot a nice left footer to put us up early and then drawing a foul in the box before Cooper unselfishly knocked in the penalty. Will Hale was terrific in the middle, very creative setting up
all the attack and scoring himself. Zavier iced the game in the second half with composed goal out the back.
This next game will be the biggest game they have played. Cobram on Sunday at Diamonds (Latrobe Uni grounds)
Cobram have been sitting pretty at the top of the ladder all year, just waiting for us to knock them sweetly off their perch. If we bring our A-game, we will do it.
Goals: Carl, Cooper, Will, Zavier
Awards: Team Effort
