Presidents Report
Well Winter has certainly settled in with a very cold and damp day at Latrobe Uni Wodonga where the majority of competitors played Diamonds.
There were still a massive amount of rusted on Spurs supporters and parents who offered a tremendous amount of support throughout the day. They even had a decent hill over there, where the ‘Away Hotspurs Hill’ felt more at home and became the driving force behind the Senior Mens supporter base.
We are again at home this weekend, hosting the Cobram Roar. They always provide very competitive teams and its assured to be a great days football. Again, rug up as it is forecast for a max 12 degrees.

Div.1 Men v Diamonds Won 1-0
Great for the senior men to get another win. It was not easy. The team did not play particularly well in the first half against an opponent who seemed to be highly motivated. The game was scoreless at halftime with neither team creating many chances. Spurs lifted their game in the second half and a great individual goal by Dave Robin really got the team going. The team nearly scored again on a number of occasions but the one goal was enough to take the full points. Dave Robin, Jacob Schreiber and James Eggleston were the best for Hotspurs and another clean sheet is a credit to the defence.

Div.2 Men v Diamonds Won 3-1
This was always going to be a game that was going to be close as we took on the second placed Diamonds on their home pitch. We entered the break at 1 all after Tika scored the opener in the 12th minute, once again our focus was to control the game by holding onto the ball and attacking with multiple options. Our backline was once again very impressive with fantastic judgement and the midfielders did a power of work as they continually do but this week our top four really stood out on the big pitch, with Bonners getting himself into the game with the goal that broke the deadlock and Jack scoring late to put the icing on the cake. Thanks to Joel for sitting on the bench as an unused sub and to everyone who came out to support us. This win has us in 5th position and we take on 9th placed Cobram who will be desperate to break into the 8.

Div.3 Men v Diamonds Won 3-2
Hotspurs Div 3 Men earned a valuable 3-2 win on Sunday in spite of making things harder on themselves than they needed to. Spurs were clearly the better side for most of the game, and a 1-0 lead at half time through Jacob Godfrey’s neat finish really could have been 2 or 3 had we finished our chances. Spurs were 2-0 up and in control thanks to some excellent work from Maja, but some loose defending, including a disastrously ineffective non-header from the player-coach allowed Diamonds to pull us back to 2-2. Within seconds of the restart, clever vision from Joel and Cody led to an own goal at the other end, restoring a well-deserved lead for Spurs, who held on well for the 3-2 win. Hotspurs played very well in fits and starts, but will need to play at a more consistently high level going forward.

17 Girls v Diamonds Won 4-2
This week was our first game fielding a starting line-up of only Under 17 Girls and it was great to have everyone available (welcome back from injury Georgia and Lily). This week saw another win for the girls. Spurs had an abundance of scoring opportunities however did not fully capitalise going to the halftime break only 2-1 up. The second half saw an improved performance from the team with excellent passages of play especially through the middle of the park with Alex, Keely, Rylee, Ro and Lily making the opposition work hard to gain any possession of the ball. Ro finished the game with a hattrick of goals and Lily also scored. Overall, not our best performance but it was pleasing to come away with a win regardless. Thanks again to Rylee, Eloise and Bianca for playing up – a great effort from all three. This weeks shout out goes to Elise who made a number of excellent attacking runs and pressured the opposition defence into coughing up the ball deep in their defensive half on more than one occasion. (Scorers: Roisin 3, Lily 1)
15 Boys v Diamonds Won 7-1
It was a slow start and we were 1 behind before we knew it. The cold and sloppy conditions, very slippery under foot took us a while to adjust.
The coach was warming up his larynx with a few rockets and we came into the half 2-1 up.
The second half was all Spurs with Patrick getting a Hattrick, Isaiah, ben and Frankie chipping in. Slow starts are acceptable every now and then but Cobram this week will be a real test. We have come a long way and can show huge improvement this next round.
Goals: Patrick x3, Isaiah x2, Ben and Frankie.
14 Girls v Diamonds Drew 1-1
The game started late with a quick ground change finding us without a few players and a Ref. Once we were away however, it took Wildy about 2 minutes to slot home well guided set piece which was unfortunately our only goal for the day. The team was very tired and undermanned today, we lost Em in goals early leaving us 1 to rotate and a few girls playing out of position. On a positive note, on a day that we never really kicked into gear we still managed to grind out a point against one of the better sides in the comp. Onwards from here Spurs and another test this week.
Goal: Wildy
13 Boys v Diamonds Won 4-3
In what would have been a very entertaining match for an impartial supporter, it was anything but nerve wracking for everyone else at a sodden La Trobe. We came into the halftime break even at 2 all and felt that we had the better of them, but once again had to get control of the ball. The second half was much better and we created a lot of opportunities and defended well and eventually ran out the winners. Hopefully we will continue to grow each week and get something from every game, this week was about conditions and being accountable for our opposition players. This win leaves us in 6th position and we take on 2nd placed Cobram this weekend in what will be a tough encounter!
12 Boys Drew 3-3
Today the team played Wodonga Diamonds at Diamond park, the last time we played it was a 4 all draw. Today’s game was no different finishing in a 3 all draw. Once again the team came from behind to get a result. Mason, Taj and Elijah played well in the midfield, whilst Hector, Alec and Ben were also excellent in defence. Goal-scorers were Billy with 2 and Elijah with 1.
