Presidents Report
In the true spirit of football we filled Aloysius Park with some friendlies on Sunday, and it was a ripper turn-out. Without their Victorian teammates in lock-down the Div 1 Men rounded off a great day by winning back the Luders-Laramee Foundation Cup 4-0.
The day really optimised what Bill Luders (Hotspurs) and Hans Laramee (Melrose) set out to do in 1973, and that was to build a local football competition for Juniors and Senior grade players.
I have no doubt that Hotspurs players and supporters are behind our efforts to squeeze as much football into the season as possible. Whether or not that means we are playing for points, friendlies against other clubs or even an intraclub game. Being a grass roots community based club, we need to remain as active as possible in our efforts to play the great game we all love.
Our junior players and the Miniroos are all learning the game. They are all at a time in their lives that they can develop not just great football skills that will take them through their footballing careers, but they are also learning the comradery of being a team, having teammates and being part of a welcoming community.
This is why we will always strive to play as many games as possible, as these kids don’t get these opportunities back.
This week we are out of lockdown and back playing competitive football as we travel to Myrtleford. Please abide by the relativevCovid-19 restrictions, but support the games well where you can.

A word from Bill Luders
First might I say congratulations to the committees of Albury Hotspurs and Melrose Park Rangers for organising a very successful day, enabling so many to enjoy a day of football in spite of the Covid problem. It is really good to see the cooperative spirit between the two clubs continuing after all these years.
Well done all.
The great news from the day of course is that Spurs again now holds the Luders – Laramee Cup for this year. 4 – 0 is a resounding victory and I say well done to everyone. I am so sad I could not be there. What an occasion to miss!!
Keep up the good work and that great Hotspurs spirit we are so proud of.
GO SPURS!!
Match Report Division One Men Luders Laramee Cup
Hotspurs 4 Melrose 0
A very good performance by the Spurs to win back an important trophy for the club. The game was very competitive until the final minutes. The game was played in good spirit which is great recognition of Bill Luders and Hans Laramee. The score was 1-0 at haltime after Kristian Hopwood grabbed a goal right on the halftime whistle. Melrose defended stoutly which made it hard for Hotspurs. The second half opened up and the team played some good football. Mitch Aitken scored two goals and Kristian Shipard scored the fourth. Great to see players like Ben Gardiner, Toby Lewis and Zac Fordham who came into the team play so well.
Thanks also to Brain Vanega for filling in for Eggy.
