Presidents Report
In what sometimes seems like a luxury, football returned on Sunday when we hosted St Pats. Good crowd numbers were seen across both fields and playing conditions varied from a beautifully dry flat track on Aloysius Park, to a swampy river on Lambert.
Never mind though, all games were played, Spurs took the points in most, but first and foremost, football was back.
This week is a special round of football. We are holding our sponsors day on Sunday which is also the day we celebrate the foundation of the Association with the two foundation Clubs, Albury Hotspurs and Melrose.
Both clubs were established in 1973 thanks to the hard work of Hans Laramee (Melrose) and Bill Luders (Hotspurs), becoming the foundation clubs of the Albury Wodonga Football Association that year.
The Laramee/Luders Cup has been running since the 40th year anniversary in 2013 and alternates between host grounds each year. The cup is currently held by Melrose and I’m super keen to have it back in Hotspurs possession.
Come down and have a great afternoon and support Spurs on what should be a cracking days football.

Div.1 Men v St Pats Won 4-1
The senior men continued their good run of results with another win on Sunday. It was not easy. A poor first half where Spurs struggled put passes together found us one down at halftime. The team improved greatly after the break. More energy and enthusiasm and much better use of the ball saw Spurs seal a good win. Kristian Hopwood was outstanding in scoring a hattrick and Mitch Aitken was the other goal scorer with a great finish. Kristian Shipard, Jacob Schreiber and Jon Cochrane all had excellent games for the Spurs.

Div.2 Men v St Pats Won 3-0
It was nice to see the team out on the park again after our break. Thankfully we were able to find our rhythm early but we just struggled to find the back of the net with credit going to the St Pats keepers and the post for us heading into the break only 1-0 up courtesy of a goal by Harry Heath. We knew that with St Pats being down to ten men that they were going to get tired at some stage and we continued to dominate the game with Pat and Jack Castles both scoring in the second half. Our focus in training this week will be looking for our best opportunity in attack. Another fine effort from the defensive unit not to concede and well done to the whole team in a week where we just needed to blow the cobwebs out and play football. This win has us in 3rd position and we take on 11th placed Melrose this week.

Over 35s v St Pats Won 4-2
Finally we were back on the field after two cancelled rounds and previous disappointments of lacklustre performances and results.
We needed something special to lift us against a St Pats team we have always struggled to get a point from.
Coach Irvine delivered with a tactical master move placing Kel forward to partner Brad up front and also inspired us to face our fear with some inspiration words.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness. That most frightens us.
We ask ourselves: who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.
You’re playing small does not serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
Div.3 Men v ALbury City Lost 1-4
Div 3 Men’s inconsistencies led to a frustrating result when we hosted the league leaders at Aloysius on Sunday. In spite of the final scoreline, Spurs weren’t outclassed in the game, and at stages had the better play. The first stages of the match were even, with the Spurs defence holding strong against the City attack, with Marcus Cautela working hard at centre-half. Going forward, we just couldn’t transition the ball cleanly enough, and we failed to play to the strengths of our strikers. A goal against us on the break made it 1-0, but this seemed to lift our game as we pushed for an equaliser, and Spurs were on top and pushing until the last 15 minutes. Even though City were clearly tiring, they managed to find a second goal to double their lead. A quick reply made it 2-1, but a third from City made us drop our heads. A couple of fixtures against Albury United will now decide whether we finish third or fourth, which would have major implications on our semi-final opponents.

13 Boys v St Pats Won 6-0
The team resumed to football on a very heavy Lambert Park. It was easy to see that the break had not helped our cause, nor had the fact that our 12’s had finished one game and went straight into this one. That said, we did play the ball very well after about 15 minutes but we kept on heading into the wet side of the field. After coming into the break at 1-0 up we knew that in the 2nd half we would be able to play the ball around a lot more and that the game would open up. As a team we managed to put 5 goals in and come out 6-0 winners. Special mentions this week to Bailey who kept a clean sheet and Hamish who played very well. We have a very tough game this week against 3rd placed Melrose and we are currently in 6th position.
12 Boys Drew 2-2
Today the side faced a very strong opposition in St Pats, who are currently 1 position above us on the ladder.
We didn’t start off like we would have hoped, conceding a goal in the first minute. After the goal we re grouped and started to play very nice football, the second half was outstanding, and the side stepped up and had numerous chances.
Johnnie scored his second to level the game, and almost got a third towards the end of the game. the game finished in an exciting 2 all draw.
The whole team were outstanding on the day. Special mention to Johnnie (both goals) also Hector, Mason and Billy. A Great team effort.
