Presidents Report
We are back. It was a hot start to the season for Hotspurs on Sunday. Most games were played against St Pats at Alexandra Park with a couple of juniors heading to Glen Park.
Our Senior men and women had some very strong results which really reflects the hard work the players and coaches have put in during the preseason.
Its great to be back for no doubt the first full season in 3 years. A big thanks to all the volunteers for your efforts behind the scenes that make the game possible.
And a special thanks to all that came down on Saturday for our working bee. The fields are marked, rooms tidied, and canteen ready for action.
This week we are hosting Wodonga Heart in what should be an excellent round of football.
Get down and support the Spurs on Sunday.

Div.2 Men v St Pats Won 4-0
In what was probably one of the youngest ever Division 2 Mens teams to take the park for Spurs, they certainly did us proud.
Jay Compton, Cody Wild and Brodie Davies have been with the club right through Juniors and it was exciting to see them get their first taste of senior football. They really held their own against some season campaigners and some rough tackles.
Current U/16 boys players Kohan Wilhelm and Patrick Mason were also given the opportunity and got right into the thick of the action. Pat was a bulldozer up front and Kohen ran all day and supplied some terrific passes. Add the likes of the zippy 17 years old Solomon Ntigonza and It’s a great sign for the years to come.
They were lead by the experience of Joel McDonough in goals and was also great to see him on the park again. Leo Castles and Neil Van der Ploeg got the scoring underway and was iced by Marius Bashimbe with a brace.
This team could look a little different in the coming weeks with injured players returning but there is definitely healthy competition for spots coming from these youngsters.
Well done Spurs, great start to the season.

Over 35s v St Pats Lost 1-3
With a less that ideal preseason, this was always going to be a tough game but with new off season signing of the powelldog and the long awaited return of the international man of mystery anything was possible. We started off with defence holding well and some nice passages of play and went into the halftime break nil all. Even the 2011 reserves runner up best and fairest Mick Carroll hit the cross bar not once but twice. The master coach pulled some positional changes for the international man of mystery to break through for a nice goal early in the second half and we had them on the back foot. When what would have been a definite goal to Loz was called offside and a couple of mistakes in defence, we let them back into the game. Pats bringing on some fresh legs they then over ran us in second half to score 3 unanswered goal. The long awaited presentation of the 2011 award after the game was well deserving.

14 Boys v Wodonga Heart Lost 1-9
Not the ideal start for this team who have just come together in recent weeks. Due to the game being played at Boomers while u13s played elsewhere, we were short players for kick off. A huge thanks to the u14 girls that were more than willing to have a game and to the u13s that came straight from St Pats.
We started relatively well, despite losing a couple of early goals to a much bigger and physically developed team. A few changes before halftime seemed to confuse the players positionally leading to us conceding a few more just before the break. We were down 8-0 at halftime but the talk was all positive from the players.
The second half was much improved and our attack started to ask some questions of the Heart defence, with Eve, Rylee and Lucas taking every opportunity to attack. We conceded a 9th goal somewhat against the run of play despite an excellent save from Bailey from the initial effort. We got the reward for our pressure just before the final whistle when we were awarded a penalty. Lucas was meant to be our penalty taker, but proclaimed to all in attendance that Rylee had had such a good game she deserved a goal and handed her the ball. Rylee as always made no mistake.
Strong performances from the entire team despite the loss and some promising signs for the rest of the season. Wodonga Heart at home next week, where hopefully we can welcome back some more of our u13s to the squad.

12 Boys v St Pats Won 11-0
The U12’s were eager and enthusiastic in their start to the season. The boys attacked from the start and we were treated to some cracking goals. There were 7 goal scorers and I was pleased to see the team start to knock the ball around well. An excellent way to kick off the first game! Go Spursies!!
12 Girls v Boomers Won 5-0
How good is it to be back playing Sunday soccer! Our under 12 girls welcomed Lily B, Milly, Isla, Evie, Emme and Scarlet into the side from our miniroos program for their competitive debuts for Spurs. Before the game we announced our leadership group of Molly, Lily N, Emma and Muireann who will share the captaincy throughout the year. Our focus this week was on our structure and positioning, our leadership group could be heard throughout he game telling everyone where they needed to be. Great effort girls!
To the game we came out of the blocks flying with Muireann and Izzy both going close almost immediately. The Boomers girls, most of whom were making their first appearance in competitive soccer made things very difficult for us. Muireann eventually broke the deadlock after a weaving run through the Boomers defence with a powerful finish. This was followed quickly with a goal from Milly on her debut after great work from Isla and Stella in the build-up. Izzy scored her first of the day with a strong finish using her pace and trickery to skip past the Boomers defence. Harper and Evie went close to adding to our tally only to be denied by some great goal keeping. Molly also went close following a sensational move from our goal kick which we rehearse every week and is how we want to play out of defence. This was the play of the day as it shows our work on the training ground is paying off. As ever Lily N was dominant defensively and had both Emme and Lily B working hard next to her.
At half time we asked the girls to see if we could lift the intensity and focus on ball retention. The girls controlled the game and kept the ball moving. Molly eventually got the goal she deserved through great grit and determination chasing down a ball that looked like it was out. Izzy added the fifth and final goal to round off the scoring. Late on Boomers had a couple of breakaways which Evie on debut showed great heart to chase them down and turn the ball over.
We welcome Twin City Wanderers to Spurs Stadium in the 12 girls on Sunday, hopefully we can keep up the momentum with another win.
