Presidents Report
On Sunday we hosted Boomers in a shortened program. With many of our regular volunteers missing due to representative commitments. Id like to thank those that stepped up to fill in the gaps, particularly our 0’35s who really are the backbone of our club.
After the Easter break, our Miniroos will be back for one more training session before commencing regular Saturday competition on the 30th of April.
We will again enter a record amount of 20+ Miniroos teams in this years competition. With this huge commitment comes a need for volunteers.
All of our playing groups require a few parents to put their hands up to take their kids teams on Saturday game day. It’s a pretty simple task of encouraging the players and making a few substitutes during the games. All the other coaching is done by our coaching staff on Tuesdays. Please contact Loz or Aido if you can give us a hand.
There are no games this weekend, the following Sunday the club travels to Myrtleford to take on the Savoys.
Have a great Easter, and keep safe.
50 year anniversary
We are currently looking forward to our 50 year celebrations in 2023.
To make these celebrations the best they can be, we are asking for volunteers to offer their time to help organise our major social event and also all the other parts of the celebration.
If you have been around the club for weeks, months or years, we would love to hear from you with your ideas. info@alburyhotspurs.com.au

Div.1 Men
It was a hard day for the team on Sunday. We played some good football for a large part of the first half but conceded two goals late to undo our work and enter half time 0-3. The second half proved to be the better one for Boomers as we couldn’t find our groove or a way to stop their forwards. This loss has us down to 8th position and we make the trip up to the mountains in a couple of weeks to take on the 7th placed Myrtleford.

Div.2 Men v Boomers Won 2-0
In almost perfect conditions for football the Div 2 men put on a football clinic. From the start the boys played delightful free flowing football passing the ball freely around the park. After many chances at goal we finally broke the deadlock with a neat finish from a corner by big Neil. We continued to pepper the Boomers goal and eventually got the second goal with Patrick finishing a well worked move. In the second half again we attacked freely but could not find a third goal. We hit the crossbar 247 times (i think) Big thank you to Janvier for playing in nets and to Jee who sat out with some senior players coming back through the reserves.
Women Div.2 v Boomers Won 4-1
It was a bitter sweet day for the Hotspurs ladies as the team farewelled a stalwart Hotspurs player in Grace Corrigan with a convincing 4-1 win over Boomers. Little was known about the Boomer team as they are not competing in Div 1 this year. The game began well with Ciara Dahl and Ingrid Favero controlling the back line and not allowing Boomers to penetrate into the penalty area. Christie was aware of the only tactic Boomers had (a long ball for their forwards to use their speed) and moved decisively to intercept this tactic. Taylor Furze and Isabel Robertson maintained good shape out wide and connected well with Isla Smith, Keely Halloway and Gabby Grant in the middle. The 4-3-3 structure created numerous opportunities for Grace and Alice to cross the ball into the penalty area. Hotspurs were rewarded for their tenacious efforts in attack with Grace “chaperoning” the first goal into the oppositions net. Boomers were able to score against the run of play but Hotspurs went into half time with a 2-1 lead after a goal by Alice McIntosh. At halftime Christie Ward ran out onto the pitch as the number 9 and Shanaya Quinn became goal keeper. Shanaya made a number of excellent saves to deny Boomers an increase to their tally. Grace again appears on the score sheet finishing an excellent build up to end her season with a Brace. The final score was 4-1 with Christie also registering a goal but Hotspurs could have increased their tally with a few more shots on goal. Well done to Yvonne Lingua and Hayley Coulter who injected much needed energy during a hot and humid Sunday morning. Farewell Grace from all of the team and wider Hotspurs family, we hope to see you return in the near future.
Over 35s v Boomers Lost 2-3
The Boomers new look side was tall and athletic, giving us plenty of issues at the back with their speed on counter attacks. Our carelessness with the ball was all the difference between the two teams and the score line. Kinno was our main attacking threat pushing forward from midfield, scoring our first and setting up The Fox to score our second. Eddy was excellent in goals, even after a small spell in the second half after receiving some friendly fire from Loz’s shin into to his nose. Harro, Powelly and Mickett also had good games and worked tirelessly in the midfield.

12 Boys v Boomers Lost 1-3
A great day for football with the sun shining and grass still dewy. The boys still working out the small pitch and were slow to get into the flow of the game. We paid for this giving up 2 early ‘soft goals’. However we gradually got into the game and this showed with some well worked chances. Mason just missing over the bar and forcing a good save from the keeper. Then we went went down another goal just before the break, which was against the run of play. The second half was definitely Spurs and our hard work paid off with a great goal from Fletcher. A couple of other close misses proved our down fall. Despite a moral victory in the second half, we paid for a slow start! Still lots of work to do but some great signs! Go Spursies!
12 Girls v Boomers Won 10-2
The girls welcomed Boomers to fortress Lambert on Sunday. This week the girls focus was to pressure the ball as soon as there was a turnover. The girls worked hard to ensure the Boomer girls never had time to settle on the ball. Sophie, fresh off the early morning start setting up the grounds, was on fire, opening the scoring after 4 minutes, she soon doubled the advantage and later in the day completed her hat trick and cleared a ball off the line. Well done Soph! Other scorers for the day were Muireann with 4, Isla H, Emma H and Lily B. Well done to the Boomers girls who are getting better each time we play them. Our next game is a top of the table clash against Wangaratta at Melrose park with both sides unbeaten it will make for a close game.
Thank you to all the parents who helped out during the day with our duty and a big thank you to our over 35s team, 13 boys parents and the usual suspects who lent a hand during the day. It is much appreciated.

Under 9 Boys Lightning Cup Canberra
We took a team of under 9 boys to Canberra to take part in the Lightning Cup. Dubbed the Hill Rats, the team comprises mostly of “younger siblings” of current Sunday team players.
The boys played 5 games on Saturday against Canberra based NPL sides. We went to the tournament hoping to hold our own against these sides with no expectations of going very well.
In the first game we played Western Molongolo, in a tight game we came away with a win with goals from Jazzy, Koen , Rorza and Nash.
In Our second game we played Gungahlin United, we lost this game 5-3 and this was most definitely the game that got away. We had 20 shots on target to their 6 but somehow managed to lose the game.
In our third and forth game we beat Woden and the Bullants quite comfortably with goals shared by the whole team, the highlight being a goal from Micale which was well deserved after all of his efforts for the day.
This set us up for a play off with Gungahlin United Academy for the runner up spot. Our boys saved the best until last and played terrific football with Ryan and Max H starring in defence and Max F bossing midfield on one leg. We ran out comfortable winners ensuring we came home as Runners up…
What an amazing effort from a group of country boys to play against NPL academies and be so successful. We look forward to going back again next year and trying to find more opportunities for this talented group of boys.
