Presidents Report
On Sunday the Club travelled to Myrtleford for one of the warmest days there in living memory.
The club came home with a bag of points across most teams. Great to see many stick around to support the heavily undermanned Div 1 men who unfortunately just missed out on a point, but put in a great fight.
It was also good to see both clubs commemorate our ANZACs with a minute silence before each game. Lest we forget.
This week is a big week for the club. Miniroos season starts on Saturday, as mentioned before, we are entering a record number of teams in the comp this year. With this comes the need for a few extra game day coaches. If you are a current or former player, or a parent of a Miniroos player, please put your hand up if you can help out.
Our qualified coaches will still take the Tuesday training session, it’s just the game day coordination that is required.
On Sunday we host Albury City in what will be our largest contingent of home games so far this season.
There is certainly plenty of Spurs action to support.

Div.1 Men v Myrtleford Lost 2-3
It was lovely weather that greeted us in Myrtleford on Sunday, unfortunately the pitch wasn’t as nice! We welcomed Janvier in for his first game of the year and Harry Heath wore the captains armband for the first time as well. In what can only be described as an entertaining first half saw Myrtleford in front after 15 minutes but Pat came in from the back post on a corner to get us our first equaliser in the 19th minute. Myrtleford then went to the front again in the 38th minute before Heathy levelled again on the stroke of halftime. Somehow the second half was played at an even more frenetic pace with both teams on the verge of scoring a few times. Unfortunately for Spurs we were undone in a counter attack and they hit the scoreboard with 20 minutes to go. Credit to our players, this seemed to fire them up even more and the tide had turned when they had a man sent in the 82nd minute. From then on it was full steam ahead and with almost 5 additional minutes of play, we just couldn’t find the back of the net. This team has showed a remarkable turn-around in the two weeks from our trouncing by Boomers and we can certainly see what we are capable of when we do the right things. We set ourselves for the game against 6th place Albury City at home this weekend and this loss has left us in 9th position.

Div.2 Men v Myrtleford Won 8-1
A heap of experience coming back through the team today with Townie finally getting his old bones back on the pitch. He lead our very youthful Reserves team to a resounding victory. With the ground conditions far from great it took the team quite some time to adjust going into the break up 3-1. The second half was a better effort putting on another 5 unanswered goals.
Jono Cochrane and Townie dominated the middle with Mitch, Jay and Neil chipping in with some great football also. One of the real positives is seeing Dawso and Cody owning the centre half positions, hopefully this can form the next generation in the senior division. Well done to our strikers Marius and Leo who had many more opportunities than the score reflects.
Neil finally scored after a few opportunities, which set the fans alight.
A special mention to this weeks nomination for the camel award. Kristian Shipard was in town and supposed to play Div 1 this week. Long story short, scored a Hatty in the 2s instead before heading to the Oils concert he arrived at on Saturday. Good to see you back though Kristian ?
Goals: Kristian x3, Marius x2, Leo, Neil, Solomon

Over 35s v Myrtleford Won 7-1
It was fanfare that could have only be reserved for the last time that the Queen visited Myrtleford that greeted us to the magnificent Savoy Park for our first ever game against Myrtleford’s Over 35’s. After the children had cleared the rose petals and ticket tape off the ground there was a hush amongst the Myrtleford faithful once they realised that Messer’s Tuksar and Davies had not made the team bus and the heckling would be saved for the next encounter. In another moment of grandeur it was also note that we were playing within sight of the “Great Wildiniho” which certainly lifted the spirts of our team during the warm up. Upon the mention of the team formation many of the team though that that Butsy was either suffering the from altitude sickness or that he had shovelled way too much cold and flu medication down on his drive up from Albury. Once the game started we soon came to realise that we would be able to play the game at out tempo and for the best part of it our passing was certainly going to be the weapon to open up the Jose seven man defence. While we went in 4-1 up at half time there was a desire from the team to do better in the second half and possibly work a bit more on our finishing (thankfully no seals or birds were hurt during the game) The second half saw us pile on more pressure to an even more beefed up defence and we succeeded in not conceding and scoring another 3 goals. There were some moments of brilliance with Irish scoring 2, Kinno, Brode’s, The Colonel, Harrow and Douggie all scoring and many due to the lead up play of Powelly and Mickett who were feeding balls through at will and being thoughtful enough not to score to spoil everyone else’s party. A special mention must go to the Loz and Cobra for their cameos up front and now Butsy doesn’t have to see that again. A big thanks to young Aiden for running the line and to the Myrtleford players for not only getting a squad together but also the spirit in how the game was played. It was also nice to see Whitedog out there having a run around again. We are currently in 6th place and take on 4th placed Albury City this week.
Div.3 Men
Hotspurs Div 3 Men had a narrow 1-0 loss at the weekend. Spurs had the most of the ball for almost all the match, but came out on the wrong side of the result. The first 15 minutes in particular was all Spurs, with Myrtleford having little to no possession, but the poor quality of the surface allowed a bobbling ball to beat our backline and lead to the only goal of the game. From that point on, Myrtleford showed very little attacking ambition, and effectively played with a back 7. In spite of almost constant Spurs possession, we never really carved out any good shooting opportunities, and our attacks were snuffed out by weight of numbers in the opposition backline. Neil van der Ploeg worked hard in midfield with Alonso Gibbons, while Kohan Wilhelm was solid in goals throughout.
17 Girls v Myrtleford Won 8-1
On a crisp autumn morning the Hotspurs girls made their way out to scenic Myrtleford for a 8:30 am start. The day eventually warmed up considerably so an early start mode for pleasant football conditions. Our girls dominated from the outset, Quick fire goals from Ro and Charlotte were followed with goals from Alice and Alex. With many of the team playing Div 1 later in the heat of the day, it was an excellent opportunity to give increased time on the field for our younger players (Isla, Shayla, Taylor and Tilly) including another excellent performance from Biannca from U14s. Isla was asked to play the first half in goals and rarely saw the ball as did Biancca in the second half. A big shout out to Elise Knobel who has continued to show enormous improvement in her attack and ball control this season. The team is aware of tougher opponents in the competition but it was great to see all of the team using the time and space to connect together and display high quality passing and finishing. The field was particularly difficult to play on due an uneven surface and this will undoubtedly be why Keely’s attempted trap tunnelled its way under her foot to her immense surprise – Yes Keely, that was a memorable moment. This coming weekend the girls are scheduled to plan a game on both Saturday in Wangaratta and Sunday at Melrose. Thanks again to the parents for making the early drive out to Myrtleford.

It was very hard to adjust to the conditions in Myrtleford. Some saying it was the worst surface they had ever played on. Obviously they hadn’t played on Aloysius in the 80’s.
With a few players not feeling great we still dominated possession. Frankie, Alonso and Cooper in the middle had plenty of the ball but when it came to converting on the scoreboard it just couldn’t happen. Many shots going wide or over, but it was a positive that we were doing all things well but scoring. Great defensive efforts at left and right back by Dustin and Sam also.
Goals: Frankie x2, Alonso, Ben, Patrick

14 Girls v Myrtleford
What a cracker of a game 1 vs 2 and it did not disappoint.
Super coach Fi had the girls calm relaxed and ready to play.
With Mj and Elissa stepping up in goals while our superstar goalie Emma was away, the girls did great job.
First have was end to end stuff nil all at half time with girls having a few opportunities to score.
Coach Fi made a few adjustments in the second half which led to a goal from Pania in the first 5 mins of the half, not long after to follow Stam stepped up and scored another. Myrtleford hit back with 5 mins to go, and the score was now 2-1.
All girls showed great skill and determination to stop Myrtleford from getting a second.
Spurs Girls win 2-1.
Thanks to all the girls for playing so well and listening to Fi instructions, and a special thanks to the 12 girls for driving over to Myrtleford after the match earlier in the day elsewhere.

A great win for the team this week! On a beautiful sunny crisp morning, the crowd were in for a treat of goals!! Started off by a good goal by ever improving Fletcher and finished off by a cracker from our captain Dom! A good hit out and a chance for everyone to push forward! Thanks for all families on the big trip up to Myrtleford! Let keep this feeling going into the next few games! Go Spursies.
12 Girls v Wangaratta Won 4-1
We travelled away from the club to play Wangaratta at Melrose.
Wangaratta came into the game unbeaten and we anticipated our toughest game of the season to date. We challenged the girls to start fast and try to get an early goal to ease the nerves, The girls came out of the blocks flying and had a lot of chances. MJ eventually broke the deadlock slamming the ball into the net on her left foot following a weaving run. Wangaratta constantly threatened to get an equaliser with the two Lilys outstanding at the back. Muireann added a second goal to give us some breathing space leading into HT. After the break Wangaratta pulled one back which really kicked us into gear. Muireann completed her hat trick followed by a fourth from Izzy who got a well deserved goal as she worked tirelessly throughout. This week we welcome the also unbeaten Diamonds side to finish out the first round of games.
