Presidents Report
On Sunday we played Wangaratta and bagged a heap of points in across the board. Wangaratta is a club that has as many teams as us and it was a tough day on for the volunteers. This was again hindered by a lack of referees due to injuries, covid19 and a general lack of officials. Thanks to all those that stood up and helped out on Sunday, the club is nothing without your assistance, and its glaringly obvious we need more of you.
In the Div 1 ladies FA Cup we have our Spurs playing their Semi Final on Wednesday night at 7pm at Willow Park Wodonga. We had a heap of supporters there last time they played, lets see if we can get even more there for this game, if not get online and view the game on All in Sports.
Trivia Night 24/06
Don’t forget our world famous trivia night is coming up soon. We are starting to get some prize donations coming through. It’s a great way for a business to get some business exposure or to give back to the club.
Sunday we are away at Diamonds,
See you all there.

Div.2 Men v Wangaratta Lost 2-3
Missing more players this week with the retirement of the great Egg , Townie not recovering from the spicy cough in time, and Neil going to a wedding we were probably lacking a little run at times. A few players were placed in positions new to them, but made a good fist of it. Dibba showed great leadership at his familiar right back position, having been elevated to the Ressies from Seniors for the first time in the season.
Great to have Manny back in the team, who looked up and about in a defensive midfield position, putting an absolute cracker of a pass in to Patrick Ntigonza for a volleyed goal. Patrick scored again in the second half. We had our chances to win or draw but couldn’t get it done. Thanks heaps to Ben Porta for reffing our game in the great referees shortage.
Simple formula for next Sunday, train hard this week.
Goals: Patrick Ntigonza x2

Over 35s v Wangaratta Won 7-1
The Over 35s were forced to find alternate venue due to crowd restrictions at Aloysius park. We travelled across The Gap to Glen park to fill their stadium with our traveling supporters who were entertained, delighted and very grateful to have witnessed what could only be described as a footballing clinic!
The Gaffer was unavailable as he’s travel permit was declined at The Gap and was forced to return to Aloysius. This may have made the difference.
The Spurs dominated from the kick-off. Lead by the return of Covid Kel at the back, the passing and interplay from Keeper Ed through defence, midfield and forward line produced many chances and we went into the break 3 nil up.
Having a comfortable lead going into the second half, we were determined to not rest or relax and continued with our dominance scoring another 4 goals.
One laps at the back lead to conceding a goal to our disappointment. Other notable highlights were the quality Refereeing from A A Ron. Kinno scoring a brace, breaking his one goal a game curse. Irish with a brace including a 30 yard toe-er. Brad’s header and Doug missing out on his hat-trick!

17 Girls v Wangaratta Won 7-1
Another excellent performance by our U17 Girls team. Having a number of players away meant no substitutions for the game but that only seemed to lift the girls spirits. They displayed formidable skills and dominated the entire game. Hayley Coulter had an excellent game capped off with her following in a shot on goal to slot home her first goal this season. Alex, Maddie, Alice and Ro also scored goals. Alex highlighted her defensive midfield ability dominating the Wangaratta counter attack to limit any incursions into our last third. Thanks to Taylor for remaining in goal for the majority of the game and Bianca for swapping with 10 mins to go. This game demonstrated the improvement the team has made this year as they have formed a strong bond with each other and their ball movement from the backline through to forwards was cause for much cheering from family and friends watching the game. Thank to those parents and friends who made the early trip to Lambert to watch the game. This weeks shout out goes to Seanna Nicols who showed excellent commitment, strength and body position in central defence. Goals: Ro 2, Alice 2, Alex 1, Hayley 1 and Maddie 1.

The final game of our important run was successful with us coming away with the full 3 points. Pat Mason scored a ripper volley off the first corner of the match after it sizzled past 3 of his teammates heads to see him waiting just off the back post. Great start, then it started getting firey. To the teams credit they stuck on and won the majority of possession in the game. Im not sure Wang had a shot on target, so defensively we dominated. Its probably only our final decision making that has stopped us from scoring more this game. A highlight was seeing a huge tackle and run down the wing from Sam Lawes, the quiet achiever who just gets his job done , week in week out. Another was seeing Tyreece come off with his customary blood nose from putting his body on the line.
With a bye this week, training will be robust and competitive. Thanks heaps to Justin Wild for putting his hand up to ref, did a great job controlling them.
Goal: Patrick Mason
14 Boys v Wangaratta Won 6-2
We started the game strongly, before conceding one against the run of play after 10 minutes. We spent the rest of the half camped out in the Wangaratta half and finally got our reward just before half time.
We made a couple of positional changes at half time and took control of the game with a couple of quick fire goals straight after the break. Wang clawed one back on the counter attack, showing our defence that they couldn’t be complacent.
Play of the game came just before the end, when a beautiful piece of interplay between Alec and Henry cut the Wang defence wide open to make it 6-2.
A good result that matched the performance and looking forward to Melrose at La Trobe next week.
14 Girls v Wangaratta
It was great to see the girls firing from the start this week. The girls showed great skill and team work from the moment the whistle blew, at half time the score was 10 nil. Second half Coach Fi changed things up and played our girls in different positions, which slowed the stem of goals but gave the girls a great chance to show there skills in new position on the field. Final score was 12 Nil great effort from all Girls. Goals (MJ 3) (Elissa 3 first hat trick) (Rylee 2) (Pania 2) (Eve 2)
Goal scorers: Rylee- 5, MJ-4, Stam 1, Pania- 1 and an own goal. Great work girls- Keep up the great work!!

12 Girls v Wangaratta Won 4-1
A lovely day and perfect conditions at fortress Lambert, we welcomed second place Wangaratta.
Before the game the girls were on their toes and excited about the prospect of a tough game. It took us a while to get into our rhythm with Wangaratta being aggressive in defence. MJ eventually broke the deadlock with a weaving run through traffic followed by a powerful finish. Quickly afterwards Wangaratta squared it up with a quick break away goal. The crowd were baying for the coaches blood as this was a position that the girls had never been in before, the coach thought about calling the marshall but thought his wife wouldn’t appreciate being escorted away!!! We lost Alex to a knee injury who was having a great game in defence with Lily B, Isla D, Scar and Emme. A few positional changes restored order with MJ again striking following great work from Isla H and Lily N giving us a 2-1 HT lead.
At the break we spoke about intensity and pressure and the need to smother the opposition as much as we can. The girls worked hard to deny the Wang team space, with a turnover leading to a goal from Izzy who forced a mistake by the Wangaratta defence. MJ completed her hatrick after some great work by Millie. A 4-1 win was a great result with some big games to come against Wang in the future.
