Presidents Report
It’s been a great week on all fronts for Hotspurs. Starting last Wednesday night when our Spurs Ladies beat Myrtleford in the Semi Final of the FA Cup to reach the final on the Saturday night 18th June.
Then we had a ripper turn out on Saturday for the first of our Miniroos BBQs. We appreciate all those volunteers that helped either in the BBQ area or with the set-up and pack up.
We also had numerous juniors who were off representing AWFA at the Riverina Cup, all of which we are so proud of and really enjoy seeing their development in football.
Finally on Sunday, our heavily undermanned Div 1 and 2 Men both took maximum points away from Latrobe against Diamonds.
This week we are away at the arch rivals United. One thing we need is to outnumber their supporters, I’ve no doubt we can do that.

FA Cup Semi Final Hotspurs v Myrtleford Won 5-2
Wednesday night saw our Senior Women compete in the 2022 FA Cup Semi Final. The game started without three of the Hotspurs starting line-up against a full squad of 16 from Myrtleford. Hotspurs could not have asked for a better start with the first 20 minutes deep in attack. Alice found herself in a bit of space and was able to roll onto her right foot and slot home the first goal of the evening with only 2 minutes on the clock. Although Hotspurs dominated we were unable to find the back of the net before Savoy took advantage of a rebound off the post to better handle the bouncing ball into the back of the net. The Savoy goal did not put doubt in the Spurs minds and they continued to move the ball around with ease. On the stroke of half time Mya found herself with time just outside of the Myrtleford penalty area. A brilliant strike shaved the inside of the left upright and into the back of the net allowing Spurs to go to half time 2-1 ahead. The second half continued to see Hotspurs dominate. Their passing and commitment shot down Savoy’s key players. Alex, Keely, Daisy, Eloise and Yas remained steadfast in defence causing Savoy players to become frustrated by the lack of attacking opportunities. Resulting from a brilliant passage of play, Spurs moved the ball across the midfield and into the Myrtleford penalty area in the path of Sian who meticulously slotted Spurs third goal of the night. Savoy once again scored against the run of play with Spurs unable to clear their line for the first time that game. Myrtleford increased their intensity and began to believe they could come back as they had against pervious teams. Credit to Spurs who also lifted and denied any further attempt on goal by Savoy. Spurs continued to pressure the Savoy goal and desperate defence was all that stopped a number of scoring opportunities. It was this desperation that saw Sian brought down in the box for a Spurs penalty. Sian confidently slotted her second for the evening. With 8 minutes to go Spurs looked the winners but Savoy never gave up. They were gallant and a challenging opposition right to the last whistle. As occurred prior to half time, Spurs were able to find a mast minute goal through sustained pressure and a classy finish from Rylee to see the final score 5-2 to Spurs. Weel done to all of the ladies. It was a physical game but one you should all be proud of. My shout out for this game goes to Rylee Steele who played a tough, exciting and skilful game often providing assists to the forwards and winning challenges deep in the oppositions half. Goal scorers: Sian 2, Alice 1, Mya 1 and Rylee 1.

Div.2 Men v Diamonds Won 3-2
The club has been decimated by injuries, illness and unavailability. With the O’35s having a bye this week we decided to raid their stocks to cover our losses.
Mickett , Plow and Dougie came in and really sured us up through the middle of the park. This lead to Patrick Mason and Marius Bashimbe having some terrific supply resulting in Marius banging in a hattrick and sending the crowd wild with his celebrations. Losing the enigma Neil Vanders at half time to a corkie was huge setback, but we found a way by playing smarter football.
Great game by Manny in the middle, his class was the difference, and even after they kicked him to pieces he kept getting back up and dominated them with his ball use.
We could’ve scored many more, Zac Brodie got some great looks at it, Kohan Wilhelm was close twice, and Pat mason will break it open one day soon. But the main thing is we got over the line under when we had excuses not to.
Revenge this week against the old foe

Women Div.2 v Diamonds Lost 3-4
Today’s line-up was unusual for the Ressie ladies, with players playing in different positions than normal, but Justin clearly had a plan. A plan that resulted in an early goal from Nat in relegation to copping a Diamonds ball to the side of her face. Another goal from Gabby just before half time saw the ladies with a 2-1 lead going into the final half. Seanna controlled the backline with constant positive communication to Maddie, Hayley, and Kendal. Kendal had to move back into goals after an unfortunate incident saw Yas, who did a super job in goals, needing to be subbed off due to a knee injury. Yvonne played well on the wing, providing great short passes to Steph and Isla who were able to run with the ball down the field on numerous occasions, which finally lead to a third goal by Steph. Ingrid played solid in the midfield with some great passes up the front to Taylor, who was close to scoring an equalising goal. The ladies kept fighting until the final whistle. Disappointed in the result (thanks to a dodgy ‘not’ offside call from the lineman), but not disappointed in their effort.
