Presidents Report
Another cracking home game was had as we hosted Albury City. Thanks heaps to the Div 1 and 2 Ladies for the set-up and BBQ performance of the season so far.
Our Miniroos commenced on Saturday at Jelbart Park and again was great to see the kids in action again. As stated before, we have the largest ever contingent this year and are still searching for extra game day and age group coaches to make the job easier for all. There are Miniroos coaching courses coming, please check out the links and attend one if you can. Many hands make light work…
This Saturday we are away at Melrose Park. The Div 1 Men will be playing for the historic Foundation Cup which is currently held by Spurs. This is a celebration of the Luders-Laramee Foundation Cup, where we are hosting Melrose FC.
The Cup honours Bill Luders (first President of Hotspurs) and Hans Laramee (founding father of Melrose FC). Both these men were integral in forming the Albury Wodonga Football (Soccer) Association in 1973. These men started junior soccer in this region and Hotspurs and Melrose clubs are founding clubs in the local association.
It should be a great afternoon and evening, with many past and present players and supporters heading to the ground, hopefully our Senior Men can keep the Cup for Spurs and make it an extra special Mother’s Day on Sunday.
We will be heading back to our major sponsor Bradys Hotel on Saturday night to celebrate our 49th year as a club.
Lost Property
Just a heads up that the process for finding any lost property at either Lambert or Aloysius Park is that it can be handed in to any member of the committee or to the volunteers at the canteen.

Match Reports
Div.1 Men
It was a fantastic day for football on Sunday as we welcomed Albury City for the match. City had the run of the ball early and forced some of the most desperate defending that we have seen on a goal line in years! Unfortunately we conceded after 20 minutes and had their keeper make a point blank save from Pat and Schreibe’s hit the cross bar. We settled after half time and began to control the game and defensively we were starting to find our legs and creating better chances for the midfielders and attackers to get the ball. Benny G hit the cross bar again before some hard work from Harry Heath resulted in a fantastic goal. We kept on pushing for the winner and almost got it except for a magnificent effort from the City keeper. We can see improvement each week know and we have a massive game against the 5th placed Melrose on Saturday night and this draw has us in 8th position.

Div.2 Men v Myrtleford Won 8-1
The lads knew it was a big game against the top of the table and brought their A-Game for the majority. The only time they dropped of the intensity was when the experienced Albury City line up capitalised. Great signs up front with the Castles boys creating numerous chances that could easily have hit the back of the net. Jack, coming back into the team from Seniors today, ended up netting a brace.
With a couple of late outs in the seniors, we were always conscious of resting the few that were going to double in the grade above. We were 2-0 up when Townie came off with 25mins to go to rest up. Albury City scored 2 quick fire goals so the Tap in King warmed his old bones back up to return to the park and straighten the ship. Tapping one in and assisting another.
It was a great display of intestinal fortitude by this group, and will really give us some confidence for the coming weeks. Great effort by all.
Goals: Jack x2, Marius and Townie
Women Div.2 v Albury City Won 6-4
Todays’ game began with Kendal confidently starting in goals, where she did an amazing job stopping lots of high balls. Ciara, Nat, Taylor, Ingrid, and Isabel held the backline strong while we waited for support from the under 17’s who raced over from their win at Melrose. Christie, Elisha, and Gabby pushed through the midfield with Elisha getting a hattrick and Gabby and Maddie each scoring a goal. God job to Steph, Isla, and Seanna who created many goals scoring opportunities, with Steph’s efforts contributing to an Albury City own goal. Hayley and Yvonne both supported the team well by carrying the ball up along the wing. Thank you to Yvette who stepped into goals for the second half.

Div.3 Men
It was a tough day at the office for Hotspurs Div 3 Men against a strong Albury City side. All talk of a strong start was thrown away by the concession of a penalty within the first minute, which left us chasing the game from very early on. A quick second goal for the visitors took the wind out of our sails, and for the rest of the first half we struggled to show what we are capable of. We didn’t manage to find a rhythm in our play, and allowed our heads to drop. The aim at half time was to show some more pride in the shirt in the second half, and our approach to the game greatly improved in this second period. Kohen Wilhelm played a strong sweeper-keeper role, and made a couple of excellent saves. There is plenty of potential in this squad, and we will look to bounce back in two weeks’ time.

16 Boys v Albury City Won 5-1
It was more of a casual stroll around Aloysius Park on Sunday morning, as players seemed to be only travelling at 70%.
After missing many opportunities, the scores could’ve been double. Frankie scored a nice hattrick and Pat and Harry also got on the scoreboard.
Nice games form Sam and Dustin on the right and left and also great to see Xavier Wall starting to find touch.
This week will be a much tougher assignment and hopefully the team can bring the right attitude to get it done.
Goals: Frankie x3, Harry and Pat
14 Boys v Albury City Won 5-2
A much improved performance and result for the u14s. Bailey was excellent in goal, making a couple of great stops and is clearly benefitting from training with Mark on a Wednesday. Lucas and Cooper bossed the middle and Eve, Elissa, Alec and Hector’s pace troubled them throughout the game. Josh N and Billy got their first of the season, Lucas got one and possibly could have had a few more and Coop chipped in with a brace. We play the same opposition on Sunday – 1.10 at Jelbart West and would appreciate some support as we are the only Spurs team playing.
14 Girls
Well, it was a weekend of soccer for the U/14 Hotspurs Girls
And both days did not disappoint!
The girls started off slow on Saturday in Wangaratta, but eventually pulled it together with a 5 -1 WIN. All girls played well with Alyssa’s outstanding runs out on the wing, scoring a double for her team.
Sunday the girls were all on fire from the moment the whistle was blown, the ball was finding the back of the net over and over, with MJ 2, Rylee 5, Eve 5, Stam Lilly B and molly all scoring 1, even our 2 centre backs Indi scoring 1 and Bianca scoring her first ever goal for hotspurs.
Final score was 17 Nil

12 Girls v Diamonds Won 5-0
We welcomed the previously unbeaten Wodonga Diamonds to fortress Lambert on Sunday morning.
A change to game time meant an 0830am start which was a bit of a shock to some of the girls. We spoke to the girls again about the importance of a quick start and high intensity pressure game to not let the visitors settle.
We had the quickest start possible with MJ scoring directly from the kick off, our live scorer barely had time to start the clock(thanks Eliza). The girls worked hard on the press for the entire game and quickly added a second goal through an OG direct from a corner kick. Amelia quickly added a third goal for a comfortable 3-0 lead at the break. In the second half we changed things about a little with some of our more defensive players getting a run through the middle or attack. MJ added a brace to complete her hattrick. Big shout out to Mia and Harps who sat out this week. We have the bye next week so the girls can spend time with their supportive Mums for mother’s day!!
