Presidents Report
On Sunday we had our furthest away trip to Cobram. One of the benefits of being the largest club in the association is that we have all age groups covered and plenty of players willing to fill in to other teams where necessary. This was certainly the case on Sunday, with the Winter cold snap rendering quite a few out sick and many away for school holidays, we managed to get some great results from all the teams that travelled. Our U/12 boys saw the debuts of many u/9 and 10 miniroos who filled in for those away. They were awesome, and ended bringing a point back with them. There are great signs ahead with these great juniors stepping into the fold.
The Div 2 Men saw the opposite of the age spectrum. The squad has been struck with injury and illness lately and numbers were down for our Cobram game. So the O’35s stepped up with 4 players assisting the team and managed to come back from a 3-1 deficit to win 5-3. Special mention to 58 yr old Jim Brodie who managed to play along side his son Zac. Well played by the old guard and heart and soul of the club!!
This week we are away at Wangaratta who are the only other club to have the full appointment of teams. No doubt there will be many more double ups. Work hard Spurs.

Div.1 Men v Cobram Lost 0-6
We came up against the top side in the association on Sunday. We welcomed Joel back in for his first game in goals, and had Dibba, Hurls, Mussie and Jimmy back into the starting squad as well. Unfortunately Cobram gave us a footballing lesson and hopefully we can all take something from that game and learn from it. Heathy was desperately unlucky not to add to his scoring tally for the year after a fine save from their keeper and we also had the excitement of Brodie Davies making his senior debut off the bench. Thank you to Leo, Marius and Kohan for backing up from Ressie’s and helping us by sitting on the bench. This loss has us in 9th position and we travel to 3rd placed Wangaratta on Sunday.

Over 35s
Successfully negotiated the bye.
Mickett, Loz, Gary and Brodes had a big win helping out the Div.2 Men. Loz played the full game of 90 minutes which is 20 more than an Over 35s match, he also got an assist, unfortunately it was to the Cobram striker. Mickett was subbed on after the team was two goals down, he wasn’t that good but it seemed to make a difference in the positive for the team. Larry and Brodes dominated the bench until they were called to warm-up late in the game by Coach Aido. Their warm up was notice by the Spurs spectators and the anticipation grew as they cheered for them to be subbed on. Both players decided it wasn’t worth going on for the last 8 minutes, it takes Brodes 10 minutes to warm into the game and Larry 1 minute to be sent off!

16 Boys v Cobram Lost 1-3
The boys responded very well to last weeks poor performance. We were however let down by lack of available players but those that turned out certainly showed some fight.
We were very potent up front this week, having many more shots on goal than our zero against TCW. A great team effort and finish from Frankie saw us equalise but were down 2-1 after a very late goal on half time. Well done to skipper Kohan who played a great game out of position in defence and cut off many opposition chances. The game also saw some great efforst from Muzza, Harry and Xavier who worked hard when on. We may be undermanned again this week but Im certain we have what it takes to beat the best in the comp. Keep the positive attitudes and we will be a force come finals.
Goal: Frankie Davies
14 Boys v Cobram Won 6-4
Travelling to Cobram is never an easy trip and was made even more difficult without five of our usual starting 11. Cobram spanked us 9-0 at home and it shaped up to be a long afternoon.
We were boosted by first team coach Buttsy warming the team up and with the performance that the u13s were putting on.
We controlled the ball for most of the first half, but we didn’t convert it to scoreboard pressure. In fairness to Cobram, they had 4 meaningful attacks and converted on each occassion. We responded with 3 of our own, going in 4-3 down at the break.
The halftime message was simple, do what we’ve been doing on the training track and give 100%…. and that’s exactly what every member of the team did.
Cobram could not lay a foot on Billy, who looked threatening everytime he got the ball, scoring 4 goals. Johnny then got on the scoresheet with a fine strike. Rylee converted a penalty(which Taj tried to claim) to make it 6.
A great win under very trying circumstances, all but ending Cobrams minor premiership challenge and leaving us in 4th, level on points with Melrose.
A big game against Wangaratta awaits us next week!
14 Girls
On Sunday the U/14 girls travelled to Cobram.
The girls started off very slow in the first half, with Cobram taking 2 great shots at goal but luckily Isla was on the ball and didn’t let anything get through.
Half time Coach Fi gave at the girls a stern talking too which got them moving in second half and playing the way Fi knew they could.
Well done girls you all lifted and got the win in the end.
Thanks again to Isla for stepping to goals while Emma was away.

13 Boys v Cobram Won 8-1
On a beautiful morning in Cobram, an understrength u13 side served up a wonderful team display. Harry was very solid in goals and settled a young back line. Big Sam pushed a bit further up the park and even had several strikes on goal.
MJ and Johnny pulled the strings in the middle, delivering perfect balls to the attack.
Cobram found it difficult to deal with our speed, with Billy and Alec always looking for an opportunity to attack.
Run of the day had to go to Taj, who sprinted from fullback as soon as the ref pointed to the spot. Lucky for him he scored, or he may have found himself transferred back to Jelbart West.
Lilly debuted for the 13s, having a solid game in defence before moving up front and scoring within 30 seconds.
A great team display leaving us second on the ladder, leading into a big game in Wangaratta next week
Goals – Billy, Johnny, Lilly, Mason, Taj Conor and MJ(2)
