Div.1 Men
We travelled across the river to sodden Latrobe University to take on Diamonds. We couldn’t work out if it was Diamonds pressure, the wet weather or the week off that had us not hitting great passes and supporting in the first half but thankfully we had Zac Bonetti dialled in in goals. Bonner made a number of fine saves to keep us in the game at half time 0-0. Unfortunately we lost Dawson at the break but the boys still had faith in Bonners to keep making fine saves whilst we worked ourselves back into the game. Leo made a fine run and then slipped the ball to Jack McGiffen for him to score the opener. Bonners having a day out, kept making more great saves and coping some hits but found the composure to launch a forward ball that skimmed past their defenders and Leo was rewarded for his hard work by scoring the sealer. Bonner was simply outstanding in goal, while Kristian was not far behind him in wearing out another in form striker for the second game in a row. Leo and Jack McGiffen not only scored important goals but also had fine games as well. While the ladder positions didn’t change we have narrowed the gap to 6th placed Diamonds to a point and have 3 point gap over 8th placed Albury City who we play this weekend. We would also like to thank our supporters for braving the conditions but more importantly to our unused subs in Joel, Luke, Jack Castles and Jay for making themselves available on a crappy day. Out best wishes also go out to Ian and Finn who were unable to make the games on the weekend.

Div.2 Women
Wasn’t the greatest day to play soccer, spurs came to play. We started the game on fire missing a couple of good chances in front of goals.
We lost mya to a ankle injury in first half but our girls kept battling on, the game ended in 0-0 special mention goes to daisy who fought hard all day and also the girls in defence who also never gave up . See everyone at training Tuesday Go spurs
Div.3 Men
Another away day for our boys as we faced 2nd placed Wodonga Diamonds at LaTrobe. In the wet conditions we began the game facing some early pressure from their attack but our defence held strong. After working our way into the game we managed to take the lead through Nati off a corner. We held on until the break and began the 2nd half with a 1 goal lead. It was clear we were switched off at the start of the 2nd half, conceding 3 quick fire goals in the first 10 minutes. The game remained a tense end to end match until Diamonds rounded off the game with another goal. This loss leaves us in 7th, so hopefully we can put out a better display against Albury City next weekend.
Over 35s Men
With a full squadron of players we flew out of the blocks and dominated the first half. Brad took advantage of some sloppy play by Di-A-Monds and calmly volleyed the ball into an open goal to give us the lead at the break.
The second half the Di-A-Monds came at us with more aggression and pressure. We coped with most that came our way but they worked a nice goal and leveled the score. Then T-Bone had a brain aneurysm and palmed a cross away which lead to a penalty and subsequent goal for the Di-A-Monds to take the lead.
To the team’s credit we kept battling away trying get a goal back and was unlucky a few times not to score, with Irish hitting the upright and missing one just wide.
Lee starred again in goals and we deserved a point from the game against the top team this week but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.
Heads up lads. With our best available team we can beat any and every side in the comp that lose to us on the day 😉
17 Girls
Another chilly, cold and wet start to our Under 17 girls game on Sunday where we were ready to play Diamonds again. The girls started well and were passing the ball around nicely creating lots of scoring chances against a very good Diamonds Goal Keeper. The girls finally broke through with a cracking goal put passed the Keeper to go into the half 1 nil up. We continued to play dominant football and held possession for most of the game and then went 2 nil up. With only a few minutes left on the clock Diamonds managed to score off the corner after receiving a penalty. The girls continue to be undefeated and it is such a positive to see the effort and enthusiasm for the game. Happy Female Football Week- Keep up the great work girls!!

We travelled across the river for the top of the table clash between ourselves and Diamonds Red.
In far from great conditions we saw ourselves on the back foot early going a goal down. Julian earned a penalty, Taj stepped up to take it but the keeper saved it. Diamonds went down the other end and earned themselves a penalty.
Elijah stood up and showed just how much much work he has put in and saved the shot to restore our faith in the football gods!
Archer worked tirelessly on his wing and Lily went out and played her role beautifully.
At the Half we changed our formation and put the acid on a few of our players to step up in the 2nd half and show the team something. To their credit these players did just that and worked hard and made their impact on the game when they had their chance.
Our back 4 worked well together and played the ball out through our midfield and when Molly took on a much larger opponent in an aerial collision and come out on top and won the ball for us it showed how much more we wanted the contest and looked to break the spirits of Diamonds.
The 3-2 win proved that winning ugly is a lot better than losing pretty and keeps our undefeated run going, it also puts us 5 points clear at the top of the ladder at the half way mark of the year. Our Twin City Tiling awards went to Lily Nicholls and Archer Stow and our goal scorers were Archer with 2 and Julian with 1.
Ne fear, no ego, no excuses.
