Match Reports
Over 35s v St Pats
To be honest, I didn’t anticipate us being very competitive against the formidable United team. However, we proved ourselves to be quite competitive, and in the end, I believe we deserved at least a point. Unfortunately, circumstances dictated otherwise, and we had to accept a narrow 3-4 loss.
Our team was significantly strengthened this week with the addition of Milky, T-Bone, Sam, and Kinno. Kinno stood out as our Grill’d player of the match, scoring a brace. Milky netted our other goal after a brilliant setup by Diego.
Despite going from a goal down to leading by one late in the first half, we faltered and conceded an equalizer just 20 seconds later – a classic Spursy moment!
In the second half, United managed to score two early goals. However, our determination never wavered, and through consistent possession and crisp passing, we continued to create opportunities. Kinno brought us within one with a superb left-footed strike into the far corner, leaving their keeper helpless.
Though T-Bone earned a penalty in the box, Diego’s attempt to level the score was thwarted by a remarkable save from their keeper.
Our defensive line, anchored by Sam and Loz, remained solid throughout the game, with Lee showcasing his skills in goal. Kinno, T-Bone, Milky, and Diego were among our standout performers, but it’s important to acknowledge the contributions of the entire team.
Div. 2 Women
Picture perfect day for the challenge against Albury United. Some early signs that the opposition was up for the chase with plenty of pressure being applied across all areas of the park our ladies found it hard to get control of the ball. A little composure was needed and when a break came to Jess we were able to finished in the bottom right hand corner to take the lead. Unfortunately a mistake on the last line soon after put the score line back to 1-1 at the half but we were finding more opportunities. Mya continued her great start to the year finding the second midway through the second half but a free kick outside the box lead to the score again level at 2-2. A few chances went wide or to their goalie late in the game but the ladies pressed and were unlucky not to take full points. We look forward to the reverse round later in the year.
Grill’d Award was received by Yas being asked to play many positions across the park with great effect throughout the day.
