Match Reports
Div. 2 Women
Our second away game since Round 1 we travelled to Melrose FC looking to continue our good form across all areas on the field. The first 20mins wasn’t pretty and anyone watching agreed it wasn’t the play we were used to seeing the ladies deliver in past weeks. Yas got us on the board which was quickly levelled and after Jess scored our second we went in to half time with a 2-1 lead and plenty of work to do. The ladies responded with higher tempo and pressure and started to work the ball to feet across the park. Goals to Indy, Stam & Cassie started to resemble the dominance the ladies have been able to bring each week. But it was Jess with a hat-trick of goals in the second half to finish with 4 that showed her class in front of goals and was a well deserved winner of our Grill’d Award this week.
From front to back everyone responded after half time and it shows good signs of a team willing to work together when it’s tough. Well done everyone!
Over 35s
Spurs Over 35s lost 9-0 but pointing the finger solely at Kel Davies is unreasonable.
After such a deflating result, attention naturally turns to the manager and Kel Davies is no exception. In the 24 hours after the full-time whistle, the simmering discontent from supporters around Kel Davies has erupted into full-blown indignation.
But despite the nature of the defeat, there is not much Kel Davies could have done to change Spurs Over 35s fortunes against one of the fiercest teams in the division. After barely laying a glove on St Pats in their 5-3-2 formation, Kel Davies lined Spurs Over 35s up in a variation of the 4-3-3 that sparked a resurgence in the second half of last week’s game.
Yet no amount of tactical tweaking could have prepared Spurs Over 35s for the ensuing onslaught. This was an angry Melrose team, hungry to prove a point and thirsty for the blood of any team that dared stand in their way.
