We embarked on our journey to Wangaratta with a squad resembling more of a skeleton crew, as many of our players were MIA, likely fulfilling their Mother’s Day duties. Nevertheless, we mustered up what we could, scraping together a team with a handful of substitutes to take on the challenge. And let me tell you, despite it being mid-May, the sun decided to crank up the heat, making it a sweltering day for football.
The game kicked off with a bang as T-Bone capitalized on a handball in the box, slotting home a precise penalty that kissed the left upright on its way in. Minutes later, our dynamic duo, Kel and Doug, worked their magic down the right flank, delivering a tantalizing cross that even Wang couldn’t handle. T-Bone swooped in like a hungry predator to secure his brace, sending us into halftime with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
The second half saw both teams trading blows, with chances flying left and right. But our goalkeeper, Lee, stood tall like a fortress, denying Wang any chance of a comeback. Eventually, our persistence paid off when Kel’s corner found the towering figure of Bonners, who soared through the air like a graceful gazelle, nodding the ball into the net with elegance that would make even a prima ballerina jealous. Kel might’ve shown him how it’s done earlier, but Bonners made sure to return the favor in style.
T-Bone had his sights set on a hat trick, but alas, fate had other plans as his own teammate unintentionally blocked his shot on target. Nevertheless, he was awarded the player of the match for his clinical finishing and creative prowess in midfield.
Special shoutout to The Bear, who made his first appearance of the season after what felt like the longest preseason known to mankind. Despite a few spills here and there, he held his own on the field, proving that perseverance pays off, even if it means enduring a few tumbles along the way.
Kudos to the squad for their grit and determination, securing the win despite not delivering the most convincing performance. Onwards and upwards, team! 🐻⚽️ #VictoriousVoyage #T-BoneBrace
